Book excerpt: Churches have split and denominations have formed over the issue of church government. While many Christians can explain their church's form of rule or defend it because of its "tried and true" traditions, few people understand their church's administrative customs from a biblical perspective. Who Runs the Church? explores questions such as: What model for governing the church does the Bible provide, and is such a model given for practical or spiritual reasons? Is there room for different methods within Christianity? Or is there a right way of "doing church"? And, finally, how (and by whom) should the church be governed? Four predominant approaches to church government are presented by respected proponents: Episcopalianism - represented by Peter Toon Presbyterianism - represented by L. Roy Taylor Single-Elder Congregationalism - represented by Paige Patterson Plural-Elder Congregationalism - represented by Samuel E. Waldron As in other Counterpoints books, each view is followed by critiques from the other contributors, and its advocate then responds.

Book An Experiential View of Conflict in the Local Church

Download or read book An Experiential View of Conflict in the Local Church written by Cleon E. Spencer and published by CCB Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-11 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are several other books on the topic of conflict in the local congregation. They all make their contribution towards solutions to this problem. However, this brief work zeros in on specific happenings, how they affected the congregation and/or the minister, and are then followed by a denouement of each case. This book also suggests that in many cases there are practical remedies that from experience can be shown to work. Also included in this writing there are some general suggestions on how to approach the overall problem of such conflict in any church in which it may occur. As stated in the book, people are people. And as long as there are people there will be problems. But informed and fair handling can nearly always bring remedy or improvement. Even declaring a type of conflict unresolvable, and one party or the other walking away from it, is an improvement over continuous quarreling. Names of people and places are not used out of respect for the privacy of all concerned. About the Author The author, Cleon Spencer, has had a varied experience with people, both within and outside the church. So with a people oriented mindset, he seeks, in this his third book, to bring his experiences to a unique focus on trouble spots that frequently exist in the administration area of a local church. Hopefully the author's descriptions of these troubles will help bring about understanding of them, which in turn will make the troubles more treatable. This being so, the local church thus treated, will be more likely to go on to become a successful congregation; which is the goal and purpose of the book. It is the author's sincere desire that this book will be effective in the above stated manner.

Book The Moses Way For a Pastor Directed Model to Address Conflict

Download or read book The Moses Way For a Pastor Directed Model to Address Conflict written by Gib Allen and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2020-09-17 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experience and research are clear: when pastors are criticized, attacked, and betrayed, they become confused, frustrated, and at times angry, and consequently, they experience acute pain--often causing deep wounds. Often not sure what to do, some quit their ministry, while others leave it altogether. But most serve for the long haul. Starting out in ministry, the vast majority of pastors have no clue about the conflict they will encounter, nor how to effectively deal with it. But pastors want answers....and Moses provides that solution. How Moses responded to the conflict he faced when leading Israel in the wilderness revealed a unique and comprehensive arrangement of leadership principles. The principles lay a solid foundation for this Pastor-Directed Model to equip pastors to successfully address conflict in a way that brings glory to God. Based on Moses' example, this model is founded on seven essential priorities that every pastor should practice at all times, in order to carry out four simple, yet practical steps to address conflict successfully. This comprehensive approach will glorify God and resolve conflict, bringing peace to people's lives and churches. Endorsements . . . Book Managing Conflict Creatively 30th Anniversary Edition

Download or read book Managing Conflict Creatively 30th Anniversary Edition written by Donald C. Palmer and published by William Carey Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does the Bible say about conflict resolution? Nobody likes conflict, especially when both parties are “part of the same team.” Unresolved conflict can lead to missionary attrition, but healthy conflict-resolution can be a wonderful growth opportunity, leading to problem-solving and team-building. In Managing Conflict Creatively, Dr. Palmer first introduces the dynamics of conflict and the common styles of conflict management. After providing a Biblical background, he then identifies types of conflict and how to develop conflict management skills, specifically in cross-cultural situations. Lose your fear of conflict as you walk through case studies, engage in discussion questions, and learn to: Identify the stages of conflict and steps of healthy problem solving Encourage healthy conflict resolution in its early stages Identify your personal conflict style and the characteristics of an effective moderator Overreact less amid conflict Consciously choose a conflict-resolution style tailored to each situation Disagree well and resolve conflicts and misunderstandings without harming your witness Manage conflict in positive ways that foster growth and collaboration This manual is intended to serve as a teaching tool and a study guide for cross-cultural conflict management courses in Bible colleges, mission organizations, and churches. Thirty years after its original publication, this practical, Bible-centered approach to the dynamics of conflict and conflict management in cross-cultural situations remains relevant, both abroad and in today’s hybrid cities.
