Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Practical Assaying These considerations, coupled with the paucity of any knowledge of Assaying, excepting that confined to a very limited number of persons, induced the author of the following pages to turn a considerable amount of his at tention to this subject, more especially as much difficulty was experienced in not having a suitable text book for the use of his pupils. A portion of the following pages was drawn up as a Manual for such a purpose; but, on con sideration, it was thought the extension of such a work was so much needed that it was determined to alter the original plan as far as was consistent with the complete carrying out of the object in view, viz. The production of a Manual embodying information in every branch of Assaying, either by the wet or the dry processes. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Practical Manual Chemical Analysis and Assaying: As Applied to the Manufacture of Iron From Its Manufacture and to Cast Iron, Wrought Iron, and Steel, as Found in Commerce This Manual is designed for practical use in the iron master's laboratory. Its intent and scope have been fully set forth in the Preface of the Authors and that of the English Editor, so that we need not here enlarge upon the subject. The American editor has preserved intact the text of the authors and the notes of the English editor, and has added besides various additional notes and an Appendix, in which latter the principal Iron Ores are examined in a general manner, in regard to their composition, quality, and geological disposition. Instead of placing the notes at the end of the book, and referring to them by means of numbers, they have been intercalated in the text, at the places to which they belong. The American editor's notes are placed between brackets. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. We have tried to supply this want by the publication of the present Manual, in which our aim has been to present in a concise form every item of information which we considered of use to chemists in ironworks, for whom our work is. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Assaying: Gold, Silver, Lead, Copper It is my sincere belief that there is no book in the English language on the subject of assaying which occupies the space that this little manual tries to fill. A number of such publications fail to meet the want, on account of their antiquity, they having been written some thirty years ago; hence their methods. Apparatus, etc., are not suited to the assayers of to-day. Others are either more suit able as books of reference, or do not give sufficient detail for the inexperienced. It is this latter fault I have carefully endeavored to avoid, and perhaps have gone to the other extreme. At all events, I have tried to give here in print the precise instruction which I have previously imparted orally to my students. Those who may choose to criticise, will remember for whom this hand book it} written. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Firstly, the Mechanical and Chemical Operations of Assaying are treated in full, inclusive of a description of the apparatus required. It is not intended to be an exhaustive exposition of the subject nor to take the place of the many ex cellent and comprehensive technical works on assay ing, but rather to present in a concise, intelligible, and non-technical manner the science and methods for the assay of precious metals, so that the reader may in'the shortest possible time acquire sufficient knowledge and dexterity of manipulation to enable him to follow out practical work. When this is done, further advancement will be restricted only by the grasp and ambition of the student. Having mastered the first groundwork, he Will soon gain familiarity with the rudiments of the science and the handling of the apparatus. Download or read book Outlines of Stationery Testing written by Henry Aldous Bromley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-07 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Outlines of Stationery Testing: A Practical Manual The object of this little book is to present in a concise and thoroughly practical form the essential points of stationery testing. All the works with which I am acquainted on the subjects dealt with in the following pages contain a considerable mass of detail which, though no doubt of interest from the point of View of the analyst, is yet both unnecessary to the ordinary practical worker and likely to confuse by obscuring the essentials. As far as possible all purely theoretical con siderations, as well as descriptions of any but the most definitely satisfactory methods, have been eliminated. Descriptions of apparatus are only intended as a guide to the general principles of their operation. In all cases the chemical processes described are those which require the simplest pos sible apparatus and the least possible knowledge and experience of analytical manipulation.
