Book excerpt: The Song of the Wolf is the first of nine songs in the Cycle of the Songs series based on characters and events in the novel SongStar: The Legend of Wandering Eagle. This story follows the Native American convention of showing the deep wisdom of nature and its power to embrace us with a sense for a greater relationship with creation and our place in it. Written in the genre of a children's book to be read in one sitting; a parent can enjoy sharing this song with a child and fire his/her imagination. The story relates the Lord of the Wolves whose name is Sia-koenayae as he leads the lone pack through the night and over the mountains in their quest for life and all that it has to offer. This story-poem is graced by 21 images that brilliantly present each verse in a vivid way.

Together they spy an owl overhead, look deep into the frozen face of the lake, and contemplate the fish sleeping below the surface. Then it's time to say goodbye: for Bear to go home and hibernate with the family and for Wolf to run with the pack. Daniel Salmieri's debut as author/illustrator is a beautifully rendered story of friendship and the subtle rhythm of life when we are open to the world and to each other.

Book Moanin at Midnight

Download or read book Moanin at Midnight written by James Segrest and published by Pantheon. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Howlin’ Wolf was a musical giant in every way. He stood six foot three, weighed almost three hundred pounds, wore size sixteen shoes, and poured out his darkest sorrows onstage in a voice like a raging chainsaw. Half a century after his first hits, his sound still terrifies and inspires. Born Chester Burnett in 1910, the Wolf survived a grim childhood and hardscrabble youth as a sharecropper in Mississippi. He began his career playing and singing with the first Delta blues stars for two decades in perilous juke joints. He was present at the birth of rock ’n’ roll in Memphis, where Sam Phillips–who also discovered Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis–called Wolf his “greatest discovery.” He helped develop the sound of electric blues and vied with rival Muddy Waters for the title of king of Chicago blues. He ended his career performing and recording with the world’s most famous rock stars. His passion for music kept him performing–despite devastating physical problems–right up to his death in 1976. There’s never been a comprehensive biography of the Wolf until now. Moanin’ at Midnight is full of startling information about his mysterious early years, surprising and entertaining stories about his decades at the top, and never-before-seen photographs. It strips away all the myths to reveal–at long last–the real-life triumphs and tragedies of this blues titan.

Book excerpt: How do you thrive when you're an unwanted, worthless, human female? Simple: alter your reality by switching sides. During the day, I'm William De Luca , the only 'son' of Roberto De Luca, the king of the NYC mafia and Alpha of the deadliest wolf pack -- one this city doesn't mess with. At night, I'm Willow De Luca , cage fighter champion with a slight temper problem.Regardless of which role I'm playing, I'm plagued by the inability to shift, a condition that has Papa Dearest deeming me a 'mistake.' All the same, it's worth enduring my double life if it means staying out of my father's business and ignoring the growing legacy that's waiting for me to claim.Unfortunately, no matter how rich and powerful you are, the universe isn't going to grant you everything you want. In Father's case, it was having a son. In mine? Finding a mate. Without an inner wolf of my own, meeting a wolf shifter who's connected to me is essentially impossible. It's a forbidden dream I'd all but given up on. Then my carefully balanced life is disrupted by the arrival of a new pack that intends to make me the target of a power play to take the De Luca territory. However, one glimpse of Dimitris, Neo, Saint, and Jayce is all it takes -- I want to make them mine. I'm willing to bet everything on a dangerous gamble, because maybe being a wealthy boy by day and lethal girl at night is the double-play I need to earn the grand prize. THEM. WOLF AWAKENED is a 150,000-word Paranormal Wolf Shifter Romance with enemies-lovers/bully themes.

Book excerpt: Wolf Song features a wolfpack that lives, hunts, and thrives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina on Cherokee land. It is the story of a pack's journey through four seasons, communicating with each other and the other inhabitants of the wilderness through song. In our story, the wolves and Cherokee each face their own challenges related to family and relationships. Wolf Song offers audible features (QR codes) such as wolf howls and music that enhance the story. Leit motifs (music identified with a character) help shape the story about the wolfpack, the Cherokee, and the bond they ultimately form through the universal language of music. Wolf vocalizations remind us that each voice is unique, but that a chorus of voices unifies and strengthens the pack. Let's listen to the music of wolves and learn more about their wisdom. About the Authors Rebecca Micha is a performer, educator, and an arts administrator who has been in the music world for over fifty years. She has taught music in colleges (Faculty Member of the Year Award at Santa Fe College by the women's basketball team), private studios, and is the owner of The Academy of Music and Art & Gainesville Guitar Academy. Book excerpt: Wolfsong is the beginning of the Green Creek Series, the beloved fantasy romance sensation by New York Times bestselling author TJ Klune, about love, loyalty, betrayal, and family. “Wolfsong is so well written that I'm in awe of TJ Klune's talent.” —Charlaine Harris The Bennett family has a secret: They're not just a family, they're a pack. Wolfsong is Ox Matheson's story. Oxnard Matheson was twelve when his father taught him a lesson: Ox wasn’t worth anything and people would never understand him. Then his father left. Ox was sixteen when the energetic Bennett family moved in next door, harboring a secret that would change him forever. The Bennetts are shapeshifters. They can transform into wolves at will. Drawn to their magic, loyalty, and enduring friendships, Ox feels a gulf between this extraordinary new world and the quiet life he’s known, but he finds an ally in Joe, the youngest Bennett boy. Ox was twenty-three when murder came to town and tore a hole in his heart. Violence flared, tragedy split the pack, and Joe left town, leaving Ox behind. Three years later, the boy is back. Except now he’s a man – charming, handsome, but haunted – and Ox can no longer ignore the song that howls between them. The Green Creek Series is for adult readers. Now available from Tor Books.
