Book The Global Trade and Investment Handbook

Download or read book The Global Trade and Investment Handbook written by Jack A. Gottschalk and published by Irwin Professional Publishing. This book was released on 1993 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is changing rapidly. The former People's Republic of Germany and the Republic of Germany have been reunited. Others, such as Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and, of course, the former Soviet Union, have split apart. The consequences of such changes are not relegated only to the spheres of geopolitics and strategic planning; they are equally important to the international business and investment communities. As a country becomes geographically larger or smaller, so does its ability to attract foreign dollars either in terms of portfolio or direct investment. Governmental stability, surely one of the most important considerations of foreign investors when international alternatives are reviewed, also plays an important role. The information needed to enter new or changing markets and control risk is difficult to obtain and expensive to compile. Now available in one source, The Global Trade and Investment Handbook is the first comprehensive source of available information on business practices, regulations, foreign trade and investment law written for foreign investors. This volume triumphs in providing in one, country-by-country reference format, a complete and readily accessible overview of foreign trade and investment law for 155 countries. For every country included, from Albania to Zimbabwe, the reader will find a complete review of relevant topics, including Political Environment, Foreign Investment Policy, Permitted Business Organizations, Environmental Protection, Rights and Obligations of Foreign Investors, and Labor Laws; Accounting Requirements, Currency Controls, Taxation, Legal System, Customs and Duties, Protection of Intellectual Property, Immigration and Residence, andWhere to Find Investment Assistance.

Book Foreign Direct Investment in South Asia

Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment in South Asia written by Pravakar Sahoo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1990s, the governments of South Asian countries acted as ‘facilitators’ to attract FDI. As a result, the inflow of FDI increased. However, to become an attractive FDI destination as China, Singapore, or Brazil, South Asia has to improve the local conditions of doing business. This book, based on research that blends theory, empirical evidence, and policy, asks and attempts to answer a few core questions relevant to FDI policy in South Asian countries: Which major reforms have succeeded? What are the factors that influence FDI inflows? What has been the impact of FDI on macroeconomic performance? Which policy priorities/reforms needed to boost FDI are pending? These questions and answers should interest policy makers, academics, and all those interested in FDI in the South Asian region and in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Book The History of Foreign Investment in the United States to 1914

Download or read book The History of Foreign Investment in the United States to 1914 written by Mira Wilkins and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 1092 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the colonial era to 1914, America was a debtor nation in international accounts--owing more to foreigners than foreigners owed to us. By 1914 it was the world's largest debtor nation. Mira Wilkins provides the first complete history of foreign investment in the United States during that period. The book shows why the United States was attractive to foreign investors and traces the changing role of foreign capital in the nation's development, covering both portfolio and direct investment. The immense new wave of foreign investment in the United States today, and our return to the status of a debtor nation--once again the world's largest debtor nation--makes this strong exposition far more than just historically interesting. Wilkins reviews foreign portfolio investments in government securities (federal, state, and local) and in corporate stocks and bonds, as well as foreign direct investments in land and real estate, manufacturing plants, and even such service-sector activities as accounting, insurance, banking, and mortgage lending. She finds that between 1776 and 1875, public-sector securities (principally federal and state securities) drew in the most long-term foreign investment, whereas from 1875 to 1914 the private sector was the main attraction. The construction of the American railroad system called on vast portfolio investments from abroad; there was also sizable direct investment in mining, cattle ranching, the oil industry, the chemical industry, flour production, and breweries, as well as the production of rayon, thread, and even submarines. In addition, there were foreign stakes in making automobile and electrical and nonelectrical machinery. America became the leading industrial country of the world at the very time when it was a debtor nation in world accounts.

Book Tourism in Bangladesh Investment and Development Perspectives

Download or read book Tourism in Bangladesh Investment and Development Perspectives written by Azizul Hassan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-05 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume uniquely explores the extensive themes and frameworks of tourism development and investment in Bangladesh. The book focuses on outlining the present investment and development scenario of Bangladesh in order to suggest some solutions to current issues. Considering that Bangladesh has a population of over 170 million, the country possesses an abundance of possibilities for tourism. In recent years, Bangladesh has experienced steady growth in its economy and socio-cultural developments. Currently, there is very limited knowledge of or research into tourism in Bangladesh, even though it is a multifaceted and fast-growing industry. This book makes an important contribution to representing and exploring diverse aspects of tourism in Bangladesh for local and international benefit. This book provides insights into the stronghold of a social class having the ability to spend for tourism and leisure activities, which has prompted the country to pay further attention to the development of its tourism industry. This book emphasizes that the importance of tourism is undeniably on a continuous rise in Bangladesh, which in turn deserves the appropriate attention from academic research.

Book Foreign Investment Strategic Assets and National Security

Download or read book Foreign Investment Strategic Assets and National Security written by Carlos Esplugues Mota and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the time of a paradigm change Foreign Investment, Strategic Assets and National Security is a timely analysis of the changing attitude towards foreign investment in major economies, namely the United States of America, the People's Republic of China, Australia, Canada, and Germany, France and the United Kingdom as representatives of the European Union.Foreign investment has grown steadily for decades, and the de-regulation of international trade and investment was a widely accepted trend, particularly in developed countries. Increasingly, however, this development is encountered by opposition. Globalisation and socio-economic effects of mergers and acquisitions of domestic firms by foreign investors receive less support from the general public. Concerns about national security, protection of new technologies and competitiveness are raised. This leads national and regional legislators to develop new mechanisms to control foreign investments, particularly in light of national security. The widely adopted and traditional ex post approach linked to investment treaties is now enhanced by an increased focus on the phase prior to the actual implementation of the investment. This legal development and the new screening systems are captured in this book and it is explained how the present paradigm change is affecting the legal rules in practice. It is a must read for everyone working in the field.
