Download or read book A Handbook of the Practice of Forensic Medicine Vol 2 written by Johann Ludwig Casper and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handbook of the Practice of Forensic Medicine, Vol. 2: Based Upon Personal Experience Deatfi from ex/ianstion occurs when, from the persistent loss of corporeal fluids of any kind, and the simultaneous embarrassment of the reproduction of the blood, the wants of the body come to exceed its supplies, until at length this disparity increases to a degree incom patible with the continuance of life. To this category also belong those too common cases, in which death occurs from hectic fever, resulting from an injury received weeks or months previously, and followed by sup puration of a healthy or unhealthy character. This kind of death is established by the discovery of an extreme degree of emaciation of the corpse, a total absence of fat externally or internally, a general anaemic state of the body, precisely like that which results from fatal hemor rhage; and by the discovery of the previous suppuration, decubitus, or the like, according to the circumstances of the case. To this category of death from general exhaustion also belong those cases, that so frequently occur in low life, and therefore in judicial practice, of immoderate panisnment or ill-usage of every kind, as well of adults as of children. Death in such cases occurs sometimes sud, denly from actual neuroparalysis, sometimes, and that most usually. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Vol. 2 of 2 Appearance of blood stains - Methods of removing blood stains - Micro scopical examination - Spectroscopical examination - Other coloured stains. To say whether suspected spots are blood is frequently a matter that requires great care and experience in spectroscopic and microscopic examinations. The identification of blood stains not unfrequently furnishes an important link in the chain of evidence in a trial for homicide. It is a common practice when the garments of a suspected murderer are found with red stains on them to attribute the stains to the blood of some domestic animal or bird, or to spots of paint, dye, fruit stains, &c.
