Book A Guide for the Bachelors of Operating System

Download or read book A Guide for the Bachelors of Operating System written by Ajit Singh and published by Ajit Singh. This book was released on 2018-03-28 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concepts are presented using intuitive descriptions. Important theoretical results are covered, but formal proofs are largely omitted. In place of proofs, figures and examples are used to suggest why i should expect the result in question to be true. The fundamental concepts and algorithms covered in the book are often based on those used in both commercial and open-source operating systems. My aim is to present these concepts and algorithms in a general setting that is, not tied to one particular operating system. However, i present a large number of examples that pertain to the most popular and the most innovative operating systems, including Linux, Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS X, and Solaris and Android also. The organization of the text reflects my many years of teaching courses on operating systems. Consideration was also given to the feedback provided by the reviewers of the text, along with the many comments and suggestions i received from readers of our previous editions and from our current and former students. The book, which provides a detailed overview of the Operating System, has been carefully designed so that a reader who is not familiar with details of computer architecture can start from scratch with ease. Every next chapter provides a very lucid and comprehensive introduction to the functioning of OS from inside. I believe that this understanding is crucial for a better appreciation of this book. However, for the reading of the book, no specific sequence is needed for reading, since the various topics covered are that independent in nature, and the reader can grasp them depending on how the book is designed or also depending on what he/she exactly wants to know.

Book Fundamentals of Operating Systems

Download or read book Fundamentals of Operating Systems written by A. LISTER and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An operating system is probably the most important part of the body of soft ware which goes with any modem computer system. Its importance is reflected in the large amount of manpower usually invested in its construction, and in the mystique by which it is often surrounded. To the non-expert, the design and construction of operating systems has often appeared an activity impenetrable to those who do not practise it. I hope this book will go some way toward dispelling the mystique, and encourage a greater general under standing of the principles on which operating systems are constructed. The material in the book is based on a course of lectures I have given for the past few years to undergraduate students of computer science. The book is therefore a suitable introduction to operating systems for students who have a basic grounding in computer science, or for people who have worked with computers for some time. Ideally the reader should have a knowledge of pro gramming and be familiar with general machine architecture, common data structures such as lists and trees, and the functions of system software such as compilers, loaders and editors. It will also be helpful if he or she has had some experience of using a large operating system, seeing it, as it were, from the outside.

Book excerpt: This second edition of Guide To Parallel Operating Systems With Windows 7 and Linux, International Edition continues its unique approach of examining two of the most prominent operating systems in parallel. Rather than using a compare and contrast model, each concept is first presented conceptually before demonstrating it simultaneously on both operating systems. Readers are able to instantly switch between Windows 7 and Linux Fedora 13 to complete the myriad of hands-on activities that reinforce the similarities between the two operating systems for each conceptual task. The virtualization approach used in the text provides complete flexibility and enables learners to use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, Sun VirtualBox, or VMWare Workstation. This comprehensive guide will help readers develop the competencies they need in Windows 7 and Linux to maximize success in today's classroom as well as in the business environment.

Book Understanding Operating Systems

Download or read book Understanding Operating Systems written by Ida M. Flynn and published by Cengage Learning. This book was released on 2001 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UNDERSTANDING OPERATING SYSTEMS provides a basic understanding of operating systems theory, a comparison of the major operating systems in use, and a description of the technical and operational tradeoffs inherent in each. The effective two-part organization covers the theory of operating systems, their historical roots, and their conceptual basis (which does not change substantially), culminating with how these theories are applied in the specifics of five operating systems (which evolve constantly). The authors explain this technical subject in a not-so-technical manner, providing enough detail to illustrate the complexities of stand-alone and networked operating systems. UNDERSTANDING OPERATING SYSTEMS is written in a clear, conversational style with concrete examples and illustrations that readers easily grasp.

Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, there has been a huge amount of innovation in both the principles and practice of operating systems Over the same period, the core ideas in a modern operating system - protection, concurrency, virtualization, resource allocation, and reliable storage - have become widely applied throughout computer science. Whether you get a job at Facebook, Google, Microsoft, or any other leading-edge technology company, it is impossible to build resilient, secure, and flexible computer systems without the ability to apply operating systems concepts in a variety of settings. This book examines the both the principles and practice of modern operating systems, taking important, high-level concepts all the way down to the level of working code. Because operating systems concepts are among the most difficult in computer science, this top to bottom approach is the only way to really understand and master this important material.

Download or read book Linux Essentials written by Adidas Wilson and published by Adidas Wilson . This book was released on with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linux is the only endpoint OS that is growing globally. As one person put it, "Linux is the Nikola Tesla of information technology". This OS is used in a myriad of devices including smartphones, digital video recorders, televisions, airline entertainment systems, digital signage, automobile control systems, switches, routers, the desktop, among many others. The Microsoft Windows vs Linux OS debate will not end anytime soon. However, it is very clear that Linux is winning. If you have a hard time believing this, consider the influence of Linux on Android and UNIX-based Apple devices. The only reason Windows is still common is because of its influence on many core applications. This is about to change, and Linux is, without a doubt, the future. Microsoft has been the king of End User Computing (EUC) for about 30 years. Nonetheless, there are factors such as security concerns that are pushing EUC to the data center. Due to this, there is a desire to reduce the costs and risks that are required to maintain Windows on the edge. Linux OS offers the perfect solution for this. Linux is layered and lightweight which enables it to perform very well across many types of devices. It also offers high speed and responsiveness. Because Linux has so many inherent advantages, it is preferred for endpoint applications.
