Book Mx a User Interface Toolbox for CAD Tool Writers

Download or read book Mx a User Interface Toolbox for CAD Tool Writers written by Carnegie-Mellon University. SRC-CMU Research Center for Computer-Aided Design and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Mx is a graphical user interface package based on the X Window System. Organized as a toolbox of high-level interactive windows, Mx is designed to ease the implementation of user interfaces while providing a uniform 'look and feel' across multiple CAD tools. The toolbox contains specialized window types for maintaining lists, forms, text, and graphics. All Mx windows are moveable, resizeable, iconifiable, and overlapping. They may be created using simple procedure calls which require no knowledge of X programming. Experience with using Mx to build interfaces for a number of integrated circuit CAD tools has demonstrated that the package is both easy to use and applicable to a wide range of tasks."

Book Product Data Interfaces in CAD CAM Applications

Download or read book Product Data Interfaces in CAD CAM Applications written by J. Encarnacao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-12-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in product data exchange and interfaces in the CAD/CAM area is steadi ly growing. The rapidly increasing graphics applications in engineering and sci ence has led to a great variety of heterogeneous hardware and software products. This has become a major obstacle in the progress of systems integration. To improve this situation CAD/CAM users have called for specification and imple mentation of standardized product data interfaces. These needs resulted in the definition of preliminary standards in this area. Since 1975 activities have been concentrated on developing standards for three major areas: - computer graphics, - sculptured surfaces, and - data exchange for engineering drawings. The Graphical Kernel System (GKS) has been accepted as an international standard for graphics programming in 1984, Y14.26M (IGES) was adopted as an American Standard in 1981 and the VDA Surface Interface (VDAFS) has been accepted by the German National Standardization Institute (DIN NAM 96.4). Although considerable progress has been achieved, the complexity of the subject and the dynamics of the CAD/CAM-development still calls for more generality and compatibility of the interfaces. This has resulted in an inter national discussion on further improvements of the standards. The major goal of this book is to bring together the different views and experiences in industry and university in the area of Product Data Interfaces, thereby contributing to the ongoing work in improving the state of the art.

Book Geometric Programming for Computer Aided Design

Download or read book Geometric Programming for Computer Aided Design written by Alberto Paoluzzi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geometric Programming is currently of interest in CAD (Computer Aided Design) and related areas such as computer graphics, modeling and animation, scientific simulation and robotics. A growing interest towards gemotric programming is forecast in the next few years with respect to market specific CAD applications (e.g. for architecture and mechanical CAD) and web-based collaborative design environments. PLaSM is a general purpose functional language to compute with geometry which the authors use throughout their text. The PLaSM language output produces VRML (Virtual Reality Modelling Language) files which are used to create virtual worlds. PLaSM blends the powerful algebraic approach to programming developed at IBM research, with a dimension-independent approach to geometric data structures and algorithms, This book shows that such geometric code can be surprisingly compact and easy to write. It begins by introducing the basic programming with PLaSM and algebraic and geometric foundations of shape modeling, the foundations of computer graphics, solid modeling and geometric modeling of manifolds follows and finally discusses the application of geometric programming. For each topic, the mathematics is given, together with the PLaSM implementation (usually with a few lines of readable code) and some worked examples. Combines excellent coverage of the theory with well-developed examples Numerous applications eg. scientific stimulation, robotics, CAD, Virtual Reality Worked exercises for each topic Uses PLaSM language (supplied) throughout to illustrate techniques Supported with web presence Written for Industrial Practioners developing CAD software, mechanical engineers in Graphics, CAD and CAM, undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering,as well as programmers involved with developing visualization software.

Book Computer Aided Design of User Interfaces III

Download or read book Computer Aided Design of User Interfaces III written by Christophe Kolski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in electronics, communications, and the fast growth of the Internet have made the use of a wide variety of computing devices an every day occurrence. These computing devices have different interaction styles, input/output techniques, modalities, characteristics, and contexts of use. Furthermore, users expect to access their data and run the same application from any of these devices. Two of the problems we encountered in our own work [2] in building VIs for different platforms were the different layout features and screen sizes associated with each platform and device. Dan Ol sen [13], Peter Johnson [9], and Stephen Brewster, et al. [4] all talk about problems in interaction due to the diversity of interactive platforms, devices, network services and applications. They also talk about the problems associ ated with the small screen size of hand-held devices. In comparison to desk top computers, hand-held devices will always suffer from a lack of screen real estate, so new metaphors of interaction have to be devised for such de vices. It is difficult to develop a multi-platform user interface (VI) without duplicating development effort. Developers now face the daunting task to build UIs that must work across multiple devices. There have been some ap proaches towards solving this problem of multi-platform VI development in cluding XWeb [14]. Building "plastic interfaces" [5,20] is one such method in which the VIs are designed to "withstand variations of context of use while preserving usability".
