Book excerpt: The Bible says, “The Spirit searches the deep things of the Spirit.” “There is a common tendency to shy away from the Spiritual side of our faith simply because of the world unbeknownst to us. We often think of the Spiritual life as being too weird or perhaps only for a select few. But truth is, our mandate from Heaven is to joyfully take ‘spookiness’ out of the supernatural so that the upcoming generation might see that the manifest presence of GOD is real, tangible and totally accessible.” Rod W. Larkins Get ready! Because a new generation is arising, a generation that is no longer settling for “Sunday Morning Christianity,” but a generation that is awakening to their Spiritual Birthright. This rising generation is carrying a holy mandate from heaven and that is to take the ‘Bride of Christ’ from “attending church” to “Being the Church.” POSSESSED gives us the ‘How To’ so that every believer may learn to walk in the spiritual abundance, spiritual authority and the gifts and callings of GOD. Through scripture and personal experience, Pastor Rod shows us how to explore the deep recesses of GOD’S Spirit, and how to engage the realms of God’s glory so that we might learn to live a supernatural life of faith and power that should be as routine in the life of the believer as prayer, worship, and reading Scripture. Get ready to take a Journey into GOD’S Treasure Room!

Book excerpt: A fascinating and unnerving book, Afraid is a must-read that equips all Christians to recognize the devil's influence in our society and to act on it. Robert Bennett describes real events and actual confessions people have shared with him of demonic encounters-in America, in our modern age. Summoning demons, interacting with "ghosts" and holding séances led to what many may call horrifying hallucinations and even schizophrenia. But for many Americans, these things are their spirituality. How can we break free from the despair and crushing fear that such encounters can bring? How do we come to the aid of our neighbors who are lost in Satan's deceptions? Bennett points us to the only way out: God's grace and the medicines He gives to His people. Book jacket.

Book Possessed Believers

Download or read book Possessed Believers written by David Higginbotham and published by . This book was released on 2003-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it comes to evil spirits and their work in the American church today, there is a great lack of understanding. How can Christians be in need of deliverance? Why do some people's problems resist every form of treatment? How do evil spirits enter people? How can we find freedom from our problems? The answers to these tough questions are found in the Bible and are backed up in this book about real life experiences, true conversions, healings, and deliverances. David Higginbotham spent nine years working as a missionary in Africa, where he ministered to people mired in poverty, plagued by AIDS, and entangled in the traditions of witchcraft. In Possessed Believers, he chronicles the events that led him to Africa and the amazing miracles he witnessed there. After seeing tremendous transformations in people's lives as they learned to follow the footsteps of Jesus and His disciples, David Higginbotham knows that there is no suffering too great for God's power and that there is freedom from the oppression of the devil -- no matter who you are or what you've done. Book Discerning Spirits

  • Publisher : Cornell University Press

Download or read book Discerning Spirits written by Nancy Mandeville Caciola and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2015-09-25 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trance states, prophesying, convulsions, fasting, and other physical manifestations were often regarded as signs that a person was seized by spirits. In a book that sets out the prehistory of the early modern European witch craze, Nancy Caciola shows how medieval people decided whom to venerate as a saint infused with the spirit of God and whom to avoid as a demoniac possessed of an unclean spirit. This process of discrimination, known as the discernment of spirits, was central to the religious culture of Western Europe between 1200 and 1500.Since the outward manifestations of benign and malign possession were indistinguishable, a highly ambiguous set of bodily features and behaviors were carefully scrutinized by observers. Attempts to make decisions about individuals who exhibited supernatural powers were complicated by the fact that the most intense exemplars of lay spirituality were women, and the "fragile sex" was deemed especially vulnerable to the snares of the devil. Assessments of women's spirit possessions often oscillated between divine and demonic interpretations. Ultimately, although a few late medieval women visionaries achieved the prestige of canonization, many more were accused of possession by demons.Caciola analyzes a broad array of sources from saints' lives to medical treatises, exorcists' manuals to miracle accounts, to find that observers came to rely on the discernment of bodies rather than seeking to distinguish between divine and demonic possession in purely spiritual terms.

Book Believe Not Every Spirit

  • Author : Moshe Sluhovsky
  • Publisher : University of Chicago Press
  • Release : 2008-11-15

Download or read book Believe Not Every Spirit written by Moshe Sluhovsky and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2008-11-15 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 1400 through 1700, the number of reports of demonic possessions among European women was extraordinarily high. During the same period, a new type of mysticism—popular with women—emerged that greatly affected the risk of possession and, as a result, the practice of exorcism. Many feared that in moments of rapture, women, who had surrendered their souls to divine love, were not experiencing the work of angels, but rather the ravages of demons in disguise. So how then, asks Moshe Sluhovsky, were practitioners of exorcism to distinguish demonic from divine possessions? Drawing on unexplored accounts of mystical schools and spiritual techniques, testimonies of the possessed, and exorcism manuals, Believe Not Every Spirit examines how early modern Europeans dealt with this dilemma. The personal experiences of practitioners, Sluhovsky shows, trumped theological knowledge. Worried that this could lead to a rejection of Catholic rituals, the church reshaped the meaning and practices of exorcism, transforming this healing rite into a means of spiritual interrogation. In its efforts to distinguish between good and evil, the church developed important new explanatory frameworks for the relations between body and soul, interiority and exteriority, and the natural and supernatural.

Out of Christian love he and his wife invited a young lady who was demon possessed and the member of an active satanic network into their home. They prayed the sinner's prayer with her and believed that they could help redeem someone who had witnessed and experienced unimaginable rituals and abuses. What happened instead were death threats and the loss of their home as a sanctuary. Voices. Threats. Objects falling and moving. Strange visitors and callers. A loving church falling into turmoil. And yes the voice of Satan. Every day was filled with the dread of nightfall. Once you've invited someone filled with demons that aren't leaving her into your home what do you next? Where do you send her? How do you protect yourself and your family? What do you do after she's finally gone but the demons haven't left? This is the account of a terrifying and incredible phenomenon.
