Download or read book Olympus Academy The Titan s Treasure written by Eliza Raine and published by Olympus Academy. This book was released on 2019-08-31 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Titans have powers that even Zeus, Lord of the Olympians, is scared of. And apparently, I'm a Titan. When I finally meet my mom for the first time ever, she tells me that I'm descended from the almighty Oceanus, drags me under the sea and dumps me at Olympus Academy to learn to use my powers. And boy did she forget to tell me a few things. It turns out that other than the gorgeous and mysterious Icarus, I'm the only Titan at the academy. Everyone else is an Olympian. And unless we can convince Zeus we're not dangerous he'll throw us out. And the one thing mom did tell me was that if I ever go home to the mortal world, demons will seek out me and my family and kill us. So getting kicked out of school is not an option. Even though I seem to have barely any power at all, my professor believes I can find a legendary box hidden somewhere in the academy that holds the key to finding my lost ancestor. Only a Titan can find the box, and if I give it to Zeus we'll be allowed to stay. The trouble is, I'll have to work with Icarus to find it, and he is impossibly moody and unhelpful. Plus I can't think straight every time I get a glimpse of those piercing green eyes... Added to that, the other students are doing their best to make my life hell because I'm a Titan. It's not going to be easy to find that box. Then there's the fact that even if I do find it, I'm not allowed to open it... This Pandora's Box retelling is an adventure romance suitable for all ages, perfect for fans of Percy Jackson and Harry Potter. Expect action, mythology, magic, gorgeous guys with wings, mermaid shifters, sunken treasure and a heroine who doesn't take no for an answer!

Download or read book Olympus and the House of Tchrlok written by D. R. Spires and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work is grouped into four books, the first three starting approx. Five thousand years ago, and the last, on a critical day, bringing them and the characters all together into one work. Opening with "A Book of Traxis," I introduce an ancient, imperial race of creatures from the adjacent Cygnus Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy, across from the Crab Nebula, where a girl is graduating from a technical school. For her finals project, she develops a device that more or less creates a temporary copy of life forms, past and present, depending upon data input. The device is seen as a minor accomplishment, one which could be used to confirm or refute Traxian history books, but little more. The ruler of Traxis finds the device intriguing, and likely one she might be able to employ in combat, to probe a far distant enemy prior to invasion. Her chosen target world is Telmut 3, which humanity refers to as Earth. In "A Book of Earth," we find odd occurrences, with fabled beings from the remote past somehow being reborn, if indeed they were ever born before. Among the returning entities are a number of Greek heroes, such as Herikles, crossing the streets of New York City, and impish Pan roaming the wilderness of Pennsylvania and Ohio, filching food from farms, where he eventually meetsa mermaid. Through astronomical observations, Prof. von Kreiger of Cornell University is able to deduce the impending invasion, but can see little the people of Earth might do to prevent the implied conflict. With "A Book of Gods," we have the return of the Greek pantheon, and a new god, Herikles' great grandfather, Perseus, the first king of Mycen, complete with the glory of Pegasus, sent upon a quest to find his wife, Andromeda, the first queen of Mycen. The gods, being gods, realize the approach of the Traxian armada and set preparations to meet force with divinity. Finally, in "A Book of Khaos," the enemy is met and conflict is . . . well . . . more than expected. There is a minor twist in the story here, as a major defender of Earth, Aphrodite, discovers the truth regarding the rebirth of Olympus, tracing events to the machine aboard the Traxian mothership. Fearing annihilation for herself and her amazing family, she approaches the Traxian ruler, in search of salvation. Except for a few minor additions for the glossary (I was informed by a reader some years ago this might be nice for the cartoon-raised generation who may not be well versed in Thomas Bulfinch's mythology text books) and some rewriting (truncation, actually) of published lyrics and the addition of a few poignant chapter quotations, the manuscript is complete, with the ending left a bit open for a possible sequel.

Book excerpt: Take flight with Pippa and her winged horse in this heartfelt two-book series about a young girl who must win the hardest race in ancient Greece in order to stay with her closest friend. This new series from acclaimed author Kallie George is perfect for horse lovers and fans of Greek myths alike! High on the slopes of mighty Mount Olympus, among the sun-splashed meadows and sparkling waters, glide the winged horses of the ancient gods. Here up high is normally no place for a lost, parentless girl like Pippa. But once every hundred years, the gods and goddesses descend to the mortal realm to choose jockeys for their winged horse race—and Pippa is one of the lucky children chosen to ride. With her undersized, impetuous winged steed, Zephyr, by her side, Pippa has to confront the greatest challenge of her life: achieving victory in a race across the sky. No one expects Pippa and Zephyr to win, or even finish, this death-defying race. A poor orphan who’s spent her life working in stables, Pippa doesn’t seem to belong in the world of the gods. And while she loves Zephyr with all her heart, he’s smaller than the other winged horses racing. But if Pippa and Zephyr don’t find a way to win, the gods will separate them—forever. To stay with Zephyr, Pippa will have to work harder, train longer, and dare more bravely than her competition. In a race filled with petty, jealous gods and goddesses and a host of ruthless riders, Pippa must prove that love is greater than might. This stirring adventure series by beloved author Kallie George is perfect for fans of the Percy Jackson books and The War That Saved My Life. “I can’t wait to see what happens in the next one! Download or read book Albion s Dance written by Karen Eliot and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the Second World War broke out, ballet in Britain was only a few decades old. Few had imagined that it would establish roots in a nation long thought to be unresponsive to dance. Nevertheless, the war proved to be a boon for ballet dancers, choreographers and audiences, for the nation's dancers were forced to look inward to their own identity and sources of creativity. As author Karen Eliot demonstrates in this fascinating book, instead of withering during the enforced isolation of war, ballet in Britain flourished, exhibiting a surprising heterogeneity and vibrant populism that moved ballet outside its typical elitist surroundings to be seen by uninitiated, often enthusiastic audiences. Ballet was thought to help boost audience morale, to render solace to the soul-weary and to afford entertainment and diversion to those who simply craved a few hours of distraction. Government authorities came to see that ballet could serve as a tool of propaganda; the ways it functioned within the larger public discourse of propaganda and sacrifice, and how it answered a public mood of pragmatism and idealism, are also topics in this story of the development of a national ballet identity. This narrative has several key players-- dance critics, male and female dancers, producers, audiences, and choreographers. Exploring the so-called "ballet boom" during WWII, the larger story of this book is one of how art and artists thrive during conflict, and how they respond pragmatically and creatively to privation and duress.

Download or read book The Iliad written by Martin Mueller and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No Western text boasts a life as long as the "Iliad", and few can match its energy and glory. This introduction to Homer's poem sees it as rooted in a particular culture with narrative and thematic conventions that are only partly explained by assumptions about the properties of oral poetry. Professor Mueller follows Plato and Aristotle in seeing the plot of the "Iliad" as a distinctly Homeric 'invention' which shaped Attic tragedy and the concept of dramatic action in Western literature. In this second edition the text has been revised in many places, and a new chapter on Homeric repetitions has been added.
