Book A Foil Thrust Bearing Test Rig for Evaluation of High Temperature Performance and Durability

Download or read book A Foil Thrust Bearing Test Rig for Evaluation of High Temperature Performance and Durability written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new test rig is designed to evaluate the start-stop cyclic durability of high-temperature solid lubricant coatings applied to foil thrust bearing systems. This test rig also allows the characterization of low speed thrust bearing performance, augmenting existing high speed test capabilities. The Low-Speed Thrust Bearing Rig is designed to test foil thrust bearings at speeds up to 21,000 rpm and temperatures up to 540 deg C (1000 deg F), with variable thrust loads. Thrust bearings can be subjected to tens of thousand of start-stop cycles to simulate decades of service in a turbomachinery application. Initial testing has validated the rig capabilities by subjecting a bearing and thrust runner to more than two thousand start/stop cycles at a temperature of 430 deg C (800 deg F).

Book A Journal Bearing Test Rig With Reduced Uncertainty

Download or read book A Journal Bearing Test Rig With Reduced Uncertainty written by D. Wale and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents results from a design study for a new journal bearing test rig intended to set new standards of accuracy. The paper summarizes a review of previous rigs and experimental techniques, with consideration and selection of the general design features most likely to give high accuracy in a new rig. Certain sources of error are identified and described, including those associated with the measurement system and build errors. A numerical assessment of the sensitivity to errors in selected experimental configurations is presented. In addition, methods of controlling uncertainties are discussed. This paper would be of interest to practicing engineers and researchers, either already involved, or new, to experimental journal bearing testing.

Book Fundamentals of Fluid Film Lubrication

Download or read book Fundamentals of Fluid Film Lubrication written by Bernard J. Hamrock and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-03-15 with total page 794 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specifically focusing on fluid film, hydrodynamic, and elastohydrodynamic lubrication, this edition studies the most important principles of fluid film lubrication for the correct design of bearings, gears, and rolling operations, and for the prevention of friction and wear in engineering designs. It explains various theories, procedures, and equations for improved solutions to machining challenges. Providing more than 1120 display equations and an introductory section in each chapter, Fundamentals of Fluid Film Lubrication, Second Edition facilitates the analysis of any machine element that uses fluid film lubrication and strengthens understanding of critical design concepts.
