Download or read book Groundwater Models for Resources Analysis and Management written by Aly I. El-Kadi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by renowned experts in the field, this book assesses the status of groundwater models and defines models and modeling needs in the 21st century. It reviews the state of the art in model development and application in regional groundwater management, unsaturated flow/multiphase flow and transport, island modeling, biological and virus transport, and fracture flow. Both deterministic and stochastic aspects of unsaturated flow and transport are covered. The book also introduces a unique assessment of models as analysis and management tools for groundwater resources. Topics covered include model vs. data uncertainty, accuracy of the dispersion/convection equation, protocols for model testing and validation, post-audit studies, and applying models to karst aquifers.

Download or read book Water Resources Research Progress written by Liam N. Robinson and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water resources are sources of water that are useful or potentially useful to humans. They are important because they are needed for life to exist. Many uses of water include agricultural, industrial, household, recreational and environmental activities. Virtually all of these human uses require fresh water. Only 2.7% of water on the Earth is fresh water, and over two thirds of this is frozen in glaciers and polar ice caps, leaving only 0.007% available for human use. Fresh water is a renewable resource, yet the world's supply of clean, fresh water is steadily decreasing. Water demand already exceeds supply in many parts of the world, and as world population continues to rise at an unprecedented rate, many more areas are expected to experience this imbalance in the near future. The framework for allocating water resources to water users (where such a framework exists) is known as water rights. This new book presents recent and important research in the field.
Download or read book Advances in Groundwater Flow and Solute Transport Pushing the Hidden Boundary written by Hongbin Zhan and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades, the study of groundwater flow and solute transport has advanced into new territories that are beyond conventional theories, such as Darcy’s law and Fick’s law. The studied media have changed from permeable porous and fractured ones to much less permeable ones, such as clay and shale. The studied pore sizes have also changed from millimetres to micro-meters or even nano-meters. The objective of this Special Issue is to report recent advances in groundwater flow and solute transport that push the knowledge boundary into new territories which include, but are not limited to, flow and transport in sloping aquifer/hillslopes, coupled unsaturated and saturated flow, coupled aquifer-vertical/horizontal/slant well flow, interaction of aquifer with connected and disconnected rivers, non-Darcian flow, anomalous transport beyond the Fickian scheme, and flow and transport in extremely small pore spaces such as shale and tight sandstones. Contributions focusing on innovative experimental, numerical, and analytical methods for understanding unconventional problems, such as the above-listed ones, are encouraged, and contributions addressing flow and transport at interfaces of different media and crossing multiple temporal and spatial scales are of great value

This book was released on 1990-01-01 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prepared by the Groundwater Risk Assessment Task Committee for the Water Pollution Management Committee of the Environmental Engineering Division of ASCE. ThisØreport discusses the control of contaminated groundwater and the use of risk assessment to mitigate this contamination. The report explores such issues asØdefining the level of contamination,Ødetermining which substances are contaminants, andØdeciding the level of restoration needed. These and other issues are discussed within the framework of risk assessment and risk management. Critical components of risk assessment and risk management are described, as are their strengths and weaknesses.

Download or read book Groundwater Research and Issues written by William B. Porter and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Groundwater is water located beneath the ground surface in soil pore spaces and in the fractures of lithologic formations. A unit of rock or an unconsolidated deposit is called an aquifer when it can yield a usable quantity of water. The depth at which soil pore spaces or fractures and voids in rock become fully saturated with water is called the water table. Groundwater is recharged from, and eventually flows to, the surface naturally; natural discharge often occurs at springs and seeps, streams and can form oases or wetlands. Groundwater is also often withdrawn for agricultural, municipal and industrial use by constructing and operating extraction wells. The study of the distribution and movement of groundwater is hydrogeology, also called groundwater hydrology. Typically groundwater is thought of as liquid water flowing through shallow aquifers, but technically it can also include soil moisture, permafrost (frozen soil), immobile water in very low permeability bedrock, and deep geothermal or oil formation water. Groundwater is hypothesised to provide lubrication which can possibly aid faults to move. This book presents important research in the field.
