The training curriculum consists of the following topics and hours of instruction for each topic: overview of domestic violence, 1.5 hours; legislative intent/POST guidelines, 1.0 hour; enforcement of laws, 1.5 hours; court orders, 1.0 hour; tenancy, 0.5 hours; documenting domestic violence incidents, 0.5 hours; victim assistance and referral, 0.5 hours; and practical application/student evaluation, 1.5 hours. Book PATROL FIELD PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

Download or read book PATROL FIELD PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS written by Harry W. More and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patrol Field Problems and Solutions was developed as an operational manual for law enforcement officers working in the field. Because policies and regulations are always changing in police agencies, this guide offers timely solutions to problems and situations commonly encountered in the field. Criminal acts with which law enforcement officers must deal range from that of a serial killer or rapist to petty theft and vandalism by juveniles. This book offers case examples together with solutions to promote the best possible action by police. Topics include domestic violence situations, traffic violations, federal offenses, child abuse, sex offenses, hate and bias crimes, and substance abuse as it relates to criminal activity. There are guidelines for search and seizure procedures, dealing with mentally impaired individuals, working with youthful offenders, and protocol for finding wanted and missing persons. Crime scene investigation is explained as well as working in cooperation with other agencies. This book can be used as a training manual for new recruits and as a method for evaluating performance of officers already working in the field.

Book Law Enforcement Officers Understanding of Domestic Violence Among Their Colleagues

Download or read book Law Enforcement Officers Understanding of Domestic Violence Among Their Colleagues written by Marie C. Salimbeni and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the perceptions of officers with colleagues who perpetrate acts of domestic violence. This was a qualitative research design from a phenomenological perspective. The data was gathered by the use of face-to-face interviews using open-ended questions. The data was analyzed by the use of bracketing, horizonalization, clusters of meanings, textural and structural descriptions, and the invariant structure of the phenomena described by the study participants. Upon completion of the 30 interviews, the audio tapes were all transcribed, and loaded in to Atlas Ti for the purpose of coding the data for the major themes. A constant comparison method was used to analyze the data to help identify the similarities and differences between the study participants' perceptions with the phenomena. The five qualitative questions each depict a different area of experience with the phenomenon, to create a holistic picture of the perceptions of the thirty participants. The findings suggest that for some officers, the inability to separate their police role from their civilian role may be a factor in the perpetration of domestic violence by law enforcement officers. The findings also suggest that social workers may be able to play an important role in the remediation of the problem of domestic violence for those within and outside police social work settings.

Book Guidelines for Law Enforcement

Download or read book Guidelines for Law Enforcement written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Penal Code Section 13519 requires the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training to establish guidelines and training for law enforcement response to domestic violence. The original publication on this topic was produced and provided to law enforcement in1988. These updated guidelines reflect recent law changes and contemporary thinking concerning domestic violence. They are deliberately brief and are intended to be elaborated upon by law enforcement administrators and training presenters. It is important that law enforcement agencies create and enforce policies that comply with the domestic violence statues. Agencies are also encouraged to establish partnerships with advocacies, health care providers, and community resources within their jurisdiction. These collaborative efforts best serve the victims and families, and send the message to the batterer and the community that domestic violence is a crime and will not be tolerated.

Book Confronting Domestic Violence

Download or read book Confronting Domestic Violence written by Gail A. Goolkasian and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a literature review, consultation with experts in the field, and onsite study of individual programs, this report outlines the roles which police, prosecutors, probation officers, and judges can perform to improve the handling of domestic assault cases. Following a discussion of the myths and assumptions associated with domestic violence, general recommendations cover the role of legislation and action steps for criminal justice agencies. Some action steps recommended are the designation of domestic violence cases as high priority, written policies for handling such cases, procedures to ensure employee compliance with written policies, the collection of separate data on domestic violence incidents, and interagency coordination in the handling of domestic violence cases. A chapter on the police role in domestic violence cases addresses written policies, the service call, arrest policy, the enforcement of protection orders, victim assistance, investigation, and training. A chapter with guidelines for prosecutors addresses the domestic violence unit, written policies, charge filing, pretrial release and diversion, plea bargaining, and victim support and protection. Another chapter covers trial procedures, sentencing options, and the role of probation officers following conviction. Other topics discussed are court-ordered counseling and education for batterers and community education and outreach. Appendixes contain various relevant materials from local criminal justice agencies.
