Book The Spiritual Body Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Spiritual Body Classic Reprint written by Clarence Edwin Rolt and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-11 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Spiritual Body In the rath Chapter of the Second Epistle to the Corinthians the Apostle attempts to describe it. About fourteen years before the time of writing (that is to say in 43 or 44 a.d.) he had a wonderful experience in which his spiritual consciousness had for the time been so enlarged that he hardly seemed to be the same individual and in speaking of that which he in this state of rapture became, he speaks of himself as having been changed almost into a different person. The experience is beyond human utterance, but the important point to notice for the present purpose is a phrase repeated twice over in ahnost the same words. He says he does not know whether he was in the body or out of the body at that time. He is straining thought and language to express something that is too great for speech. In one sense he felt he was in the body, in another sense he felt he was outside it. That was the strange paradox. In that moment of ecstatic vision the spiritual body, which had grown strong within its sheltering prison, broke loose for a time and performed its spiritual functions unhampered by the grosser body of the flesh. And thus he was both within the body and without it at the same instant. He was within the spiritual body which with its ethereal movements was a perfect vehicle of his ecstatic experience, and he was outside the natural body which for that short time of rapture had almost been cast off. Thus St. Paul knew by experience that there is a spiritual body. As to the nature of this body he seems at first to have formed no theory, yet as years passed his experience could not but work within his mind and help him when in answer to the questioning of the Corinthians he first expounded the Doctrine of a Spiritual Body. Another element which bore a supreme part in forming this conception within the Apostle's mind was no doubt the glorified form of the risen Lord which appeared to him at his con version. Something he saw and heard in that great crisis of his life which convinced him that the Lord was living in a bodily yet spiritual state. This happened probably nine years before the experience just alluded to, and on it St. Paul based his belief in a bodily resurrection of the Christian. Book The Humiliation of Christ

Download or read book The Humiliation of Christ written by Alex B. Bruce and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Humiliation of Christ: In Its Physical, Ethical and Official Aspects IN issuing a new edition of T he Humiliation of Christ, I desire gratefully to acknowledge the appreciative spirit in which a very imperfect attempt to discuss a difficult subject of great importance was received by the theological public. In this edition scarcely any alteration has been made in the text of the Lectures which appeared in the first edition But a new Lecture has been added, the Fifth in the present volume, on Modern Humanistic T nearies of C nrist's Person, which completes my original design. In this Lecture I have utilized the notes which appeared in the Appendix of the former edition on tile [deal-man T/teory of Cnrist's Person, and on t/ze title Son of man, replacing them by new notes on other topics. I have also in the same Lec ture embodied the substance of an article on Naturalistic Views of Cnrist's Person, which appeared in the British ana' Foreign Evangelical Review for January 1879. For the benefit of readers not familiar with the Greek and German languages I have given English translations of extracts from these tongues occurring in the Appendix, alpng with the original. I have not thought it necessary to follow the same course with extracts in notes at the foot of the page in the body of the work, because the drift of all such ex tracts is given in the text, so that the English reader loses nothing, except the power of verifying the accuracy of my representations. It was simply for the purpose of such verification that the extracts were given. I trust thatthese additions will have the effect of rendering the book more useful and acceptable. Ifl have not made more ex tensive alterations, it is not for want of a deep sense of the defects of my performance. If there are passages in the volume which do not satisfy the mind of the reader, they probably still less satisfy the mind of the writer. And yet I am not sure that if I were to try I could make them bet ter. Let me express the hope that, in spite of defects, these studies may promote growth in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and by their very short comings stir up others to handle the high theme more worthily. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edifying The Body of Christ is not only the title of this Christian book on the Holy Spirit, but it is also one of the gifts of Christ through men in Ephesians 4:10-13. Ephesians 4:10-13 tells us that as Jesus ascended to heaven, He gave various gifts to humanity for the perfecting and equipping of the body of Christ. Author and ordained minister Brenda Johnson passionately follows this mandate. In Edifying The Body of Christ, the Holy Spirit guides her. It unveils scripture to help believers fight the devil, obey the practical application of scripture, and help them understand God’s purpose for their lives. This book studies the Bible and the biblical truths that lie within it. Written in a style that can be easily read and understood, she covers the power of Christ in a believer's life and the fruit of the Spirit with scripture references. It is illumination and enlightenment for anyone who desires to learn more about Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and biblical truth. The scripture references are taken from the King James version of the Holy Bible unless otherwise indicated. Edifying The Body of Christ is born out of the abundance of God’s grace and a desire to build up the Body of Christ. All glory be to God.

Book Three Letters on the Generation of the Manhood of the Son of God

Download or read book Three Letters on the Generation of the Manhood of the Son of God written by Robert Harkness Carne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-09 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Three Letters on the Generation of the Manhood of the Son of God: A Review of the Discussion on This Subject, and an Essay on the Nature and Cause of the Death of Christ, With Notes IN your first number, I see much said about the bod}r assumed by the Son of God, and the nature of the esh of which it was constituted, and the condition it was in when he assumed it; and from the whole of the statements, I conclude, that thus much is meant; namely, that the body prepared by God for his Son was substantially the esh of sin, and not only having some likeness to it; but that at his resurrection a change ensued in it, so as that it then became sinless. Thus, for example; Mr. Irving says, in your 24th page, Christ, for the love he bore the human soul, consented to become a servant to her, and to be clothed with her body of sin and death.' God prepared a body of fallen humanity for his Son, through the power of the Holy Ghost.' And, in page 30, he avers of Christ, that 'he bears their naked and complete sufferings without a remedy, in order that, after he had sucked all the poison of suffering out, and into himself, into his body compressed all the venom of sin, he might, by dying, make it all die, and by rising again, triumph over it in the souls of his people, who, if they had faith, would have no suffering, as they would have no sin.' And then, in the theological department, I find it stated at page 98, that the Son of God did by the Holy Ghost take a soul; and with and in that soul, hedid take esh and blood of the Virgin, ' that is, as it follows, 'fallen esh.' TO this it is added, that his perfect holiness, in the human nature, is as necessary to the orthodox faith, as is the unholz'ness ofthe nature which he took.' And in the 99th page, Iread, that his days of esh put him into possession of our pitiful case, which he had undertaken to advocate; his taking holy esh at the resurrecliou, brought him up into God's presence, to advocate it there. Each is needful in its place to our Mediator; both must meet together in our High Priest; and this hath ever been the doc trine of the orthodox church, and must remain so unto the end.' Book A Plain Account of Christian Perfection

Download or read book A Plain Account of Christian Perfection written by John Wesley and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2023-11-17 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Plain Account of Christian Perfection by John Wesley is about the theory of perfection according to Christian theology. Excerpt: "1. WHAT I purpose in the following pages is, to give a plain and distinct account of the steps by which I was led, during the course of many years, to embrace the doctrine of Christian Perfection. This I owe to the serious part of mankind; those who desire to know all the truth as it is in Jesus. And these only are concerned with questions of this kind. To these I would nakedly declare the thing as it is, endeavoring all along to show, from one period to another, both what I thought, and why I thought so."

Book The Malady of the Christian Body

Download or read book The Malady of the Christian Body written by Brian Brock and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-11-08 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ailments of the contemporary church are remarkably similar to those suffered by the fractious Corinthian church in the first century. This is the challenge presented in The Malady of the Christian Body, a two-volume commentary by Brian Brock and Bernd Wannenwetsch. The manner in which Paul engages questions of factionalism, sexuality, legal conflict, idolatry, dress codes, and eating habits reveals that neither the malady he diagnoses nor the therapy he offers track the dominant accounts currently on offer of the malaise suffered by today's church. This volume depicts the Apostle as carefully examining the organic whole that is the body of Christ in order to detect obstacles to the healthy flow of powers that sustain its life. The therapy that is then offered comes by way of a redirection of the Corinthian believers' attention to the ways in which they can embrace God's active working among them to heal their broken unity. This book breaks new ground in crossing and reconfiguring the traditional disciplinary boundaries between biblical studies, systematic theology, and theological ethics.
