Book A Determined Spirit

Download or read book A Determined Spirit written by Gary F. Heuer and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-02-18 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine what you would do if your brother died at a very young age, and then your father died just a few years later. What if your family struggled financially for years because your father had no insurance. His death resulted in you having to move and live in a motel near your new high school, and you had to buy meals at the local diner because your mother was hundreds of miles away. Further, your mother suddenly decided to move you, at age fifteen, to Germany, where you couldn’t meet the basic requirements needed to attend school at your grade level. Suppose then, you decided to come back to America on your own accord, at age sixteen, and make your way with no family to support you. What would be your chances of making it on your own, let alone achieving success? This is a brief glimpse into Gary Heuer’s childhood. Fortunately, he did survive. He joined the army and overcame his family and life’s challenges. This all happened because his family never prepared for the contingencies of life. There was no insurance, no savings, and no planning. With this realization, Gary decided to become a financial advisor with one of the largest Christian-based insurance companies in America. His story of overcoming life’s obstacles and achieving success is one of courage, stamina, and perseverance. His autobiography is an in-depth look at what happens to a family when tragedy strikes, not once or twice, but multiple times. His heartbreaking story of endurance and steadfastness is one that can inspire and motivate any reader to stay the course and work through their issues. His story shows what a determined spirit can accomplish, if you never give up.

Book My Determined Spirit

Download or read book My Determined Spirit written by Christy Tran and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-08-09 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I met Christy Tran, whom I know as Victoria, in 2001, when she became my hairdresser, after I had moved from Austin, Texas, to Amarillo, Texas. Over the years we visited while she worked to make me presentable to rest of the world. During our talks she slowly began sharing the details of her life in Vietnam during the infamous war years. I became fascinated with her story. Some of her experiences seemed unbelievable; however, the fervor with which she spoke told me it was all true. She lived a life that only a few people could truly understand. She endured the horrors of war and bears witness to the terrible things that human beings can do to one another. Yet her story is also one of survival. Not only did she survive the war, she survived the torturous escape from her homeland as one of the "boat people" of the 1970s. Her story does not end as refugee but it is one of victory and finding a new country to call her own. I was intrigued and amazed at my friend's determination and courage in face of fear, devastation, isolation, and hopelessness. She has taught me that the problems I face in day to day life can be overcome with faith and fortitude. This is Christy's story, as she told it to me over the course of three years - as she has lived it over the course of 53 years.

Book The Phenomenology of Spirit

Download or read book The Phenomenology of Spirit written by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and published by Newcomb Livraria Press. This book was released on 1977-01-01 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new 2023 Translation with Afterword of Hegel's Monumental work The Phenomenology of Spirit (1807) G.W.F. Hegel's "The Phenomenology of Spirit," published in 1807, is one of the foundational texts of German idealism. Through a narrative of historical and philosophical developments, Hegel explores the evolution of consciousness from immediate sensory experience to the highest form of self-aware Spirit. Engaging with a diverse array of figures and movements, from ancient Greek thought to his contemporary German Idealists, Hegel presents a complex analysis of human experience and its inherent contradictions, culminating in the realization of absolute knowing. The work's intricate dialectical method, wherein concepts evolve through thesis-antithesis-synthesis progressions, has greatly influenced modern philosophy and the humanities.

Book The Spirit and Its Letter

Download or read book The Spirit and Its Letter written by John H. Smith and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-15 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, John H. Smith investigates the influences of classical and humanistic rhetoric on Hegel's theory and practice of philosophical representation. Smith focuses on Hegel's concept of Bildung (roughly, education, development, or formation), which occupies a central position in his philosophy. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the author demonstrates that Hegel's philosophy of Bildung depends on his own Bildung as a writer of philosophy-a formative education that followed the principles of traditional rhetorical systems. In addition, Smith provides an analysis of each stage of Hegel's philosophy in terms of a different rhetorical strategy that he finds governing Hegel's writing. By examining how rhetoric enters into the formation of Hegel's anti-rhetorical dialectics, Smith reveals the origins of numerous contradictory strategies in Hegel's thought. The first book in any language to explore the rhetorical background of Hegel's philosophy, The Spirit and Its Letter addresses issues at the intersection of contemporary literary theory, philosophy, rhetoric, and intellectual history.

Book God s Love Through the Spirit

Download or read book God s Love Through the Spirit written by Kenneth Loyer and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2014 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the doctrine of the Holy Spirit has often been a neglected subject in theology, it remains vital for understanding both the Christian confession of God as Trinity and the nature of the Christian life. In view of those two topics, God's Love through the Spirit examines the relationship between love and the person and work of the Holy Spirit in Thomas Aquinas and John Wesley - two very different figures whose teachings on the Spirit and the Christian life are found to be, on the whole, surprisingly compatible. An investigation into Aquinas's amor-based pneumatology, including a groundbreaking analysis of his recently discovered Pentecost sermon, and a fresh assessment of the doctrine of sanctification in Wesley show that in distinctive yet largely complementary ways, Aquinas and Wesley provide resources that can be used to reclaim a richer pneumatology, specifically in relation to the theological virtue of love.

Book Testimony in the Spirit

Download or read book Testimony in the Spirit written by Mark J. Cartledge and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the ordinary beliefs and practices of Pentecostal and Charismatic Christians in relation to the Holy Spirit. It does this by means of a congregational study of a classical Pentecostal church in the UK, using participant observation, focus groups and documentary and media analysis. This approach develops a framework in which the narratives of informants can be interpreted. Focusing on specific areas of interest, such as worship, conversion, healing and witness, each contribution from respondents is situated within the context of the congregation and interpreted by means of the broader Christian tradition. This book makes a unique contribution to scholarship by offering a rich and varied picture of contemporary Christians in the Pentecostal and Charismatic traditions, enabling a greater understanding to be appreciated for both academic and ecclesial audiences.

Book Hegel The Phenomenology of Spirit

Download or read book Hegel The Phenomenology of Spirit written by Michael Inwood and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-02-15 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: G. W. F. Hegel's first masterpiece, the Phenomenology of Spirit, is one of the great works of philosophy. It remains, however, one of the most challenging and mysterious books ever written. Michael Inwood presents this central work to the modern reader in an intelligible and accurate new translation. This translation attempts to convey, as accurately as possible, the subtle nuances of the original German text. Inwood also provides a detailed commentary that explains what Hegel is saying at each stage of his argument and also discusses the philosophical issues it raises. This volume will therefore prove invaluable to those who want to get to grips with Hegel's thought processes and to follow his complex argument.

From Roman Hispania to the most recent Spanish trends, Professor Raley narrates the unique story of Spanish civilization. Examples of his original thinking include a phenomenology of Spanish history, a new theory of the Spanish Renaissance, new concepts of Spanish patriotism and nationalism, and a reinterpretation of Spanish Stoicism. As the book unfolds he also takes many sidelong looks into Hispanic America and offers a new explanation of Spain's relationship to Moslem Al-Andalus and modern Europe. The book culminates in a radical analysis of Quixotic life and its unsuspected significance for the post-modern age.
