This book was released on 2017-04-28 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Complete Course of Jiu-Jitsu and Physical Culture WE know that you will find interest in reading and demonstrating to your own satisfaction the effectiveness of jiu-jitsu, in its mildest form, as a means of self-defense. This is the first time that all the secrets of the Japanese national system of physical training and self-defense have been given to Western people. Less than a generation ago you could not have Obtained this knowledge at any price. SO religiously have the principles of jiu-jitsu been guarded that no foreigner has ever before received Official instruction from one who has taken the highest degree in the art. Jiu-jitsu is the most wonderful system of physical train ing the world has ever known. It is a science. It is muscle dominated and directed in every detail by brain. The Japanese are the hardiest race of people in the world today, and we attribute their wonderful strength and power of eu durance solely to the persistent practice of their national system Of physical development. Jiu Jitsu develops every muscle and strengthens every organ in the human body. It does not produce knotted muscles, but develops the body harmoniously and uni formly. It affects those minute muscles which are not reached by any other system. It strengthens the heart action, scientifically renews and invigorates every tissue, and helps every organ to perform its functions. The man or woman who devotes ten minutes daily to the practice Of jiu-jitsu will enjoy a degree of health and strength that will make him or her thoroughly alive and fully conscious Of the possession of perfect manhood or womanhood. (the improvement of the average American pupil in from thirty to sixty days is as follows: Development Of the chest, three to four inches; chest expansion, three to five inches; upper arm, one to two inches; forearm, one-half to one inch; thigh, two to three inches; and the entire body in proportion.) jiu-jitsu is also a natural and positive cure for constipa [i]tion, indigestion, and all forms of dyspepsia, insomnia, pulmonary troubles, and lack of vitality. Its practice improves the appetite, accelerates circulation, and aids assimilation. And to the increased vigor and tone of the system the brain responds, and the mental capacity as well as the physical is improved. The Japanese enjoy better health than any other nationality. With them consumption is very rare, dyspepsia has no meaning, and physical weak ness is an affliction with which only the aged are beset. Extreme leanness is regarded in much the same manner as Americans regard physical deformity, and extreme corpu leney is unknown. There is a reason for all this and it is found in jiu-jitsu. Book Japanese Jiu jitsu

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With extensive, step-by-step photographs and instructions, this jiu-jitsu guide is an effective tool for mastering this ancient martial art. The original Japanese martial art developed by the elite samurai class during Japan's feudal era, Jiu-jitsu is the forerunner of Judo and the precursor of today's ultimate fighting styles, such as mixed martial arts (MMA). For centuries, this method of unarmed self-defense proved so successful in combat that it was kept secret and taught only to a select few. Based on the author's study with instructors at the Tokyo police academy, this martial arts book presents all the traditional techniques of Jujitsu, also known as Jiu-jitsu. These techniques teach you valuable restraining methods that force your opponent to submit without abuse by using pressure points. It shows you tips for search and seizure, and the almost extinct art of Hojojutsu—how to tie people up without using any knots. Japanese Jiu-jitsu: Secret Techniques of Self-Defense addresses and demonstrates the full range of Kaisho Goshin Budo Taiho Jitsu Ryu (Tokyo police self-defense). Learn specific techniques such as: The use of hands Throwing an opponent Attacking vital points with strikes and kicks The use of weapons (like the staff). This fascinating Jiujitsu book, designed as a training manual, also serves as a remarkable illustrated guide to the secret art of Japanese samurai self-defense.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Japanese Jujutsu and Judo are the predecessors of modern-day Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu has swept the martial arts world by storm, proving itself as one of the most effective fighting systems on the planet. This book takes a look at training in traditional Jujutsu in Japan under Japanese martial arts expert Yasushi Kiyomoto. It compares these experiences with training in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu under National Champion and 2nd degree black belt, Brad Court in America. This book isn't about techniques, but rather what these training experiences are like and how these two martial arts relate and differ from one another. "Among the students of jujutsu and kindred arts themselves, it frequently happens that bones are broken or dislocated, sinews wrenched, and obstinate adversaries choked into insensibility." -E.J. Harrison (1873- 1961) The Fighting Spirit of Japan

  • Author : Jonathan Cussins
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2016-08-22
  • ISBN : 9781796844191
  • Pages : 143 pages

Download or read book Jiu Jitsu written by Jonathan Cussins and published by . This book was released on 2016-08-22 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jiu Jitsu is an unarmed form of combat first used by the samurai warriors of ancient Japan. It's an all-round martial art that uses striking, blocking, grappling, locking, throwing submission and weapons techniques. Jiu Jitsu is used by police and armed forces around the world and for street self defence. Jiu jitsu has an emphasis on technique over power and strength by using the opponent's force against themselves. The trained jiu jitsuka (student of jiu jitsu) is able to subdue their unwitting opponent quickly using only the minimal physical effort required. This book is not intended to be a 'how to' manual for learning jiu jitsu, there are plenty of those books already available which can be an invaluable addition to your training. This book picks up on all those areas of jiu jitsu that can be learned and researched 'off the mat' (tatami) and outside the dojo (the training centre). Being proficient at the techniques of jiu jitsu is a great skill. To truly progress the student must train both the mental and the physical sides of the art, training with as much realism as can be safely allowed. Some chapters of this book will help those potential students unsure of whether jiu jitsu is for them to make a more informed decision. This book will also be of great use to those looking to achieve higher grades in jiu jitsu, to expand their knowledge, educate themselves on the wider concepts and hopefully spark off an interest in research that will lead them deeper into their own development and search for self improvement. For those students earning (or aspiring to) the 'Black Belt' you are now the custodian of all those that have gone before and passed down their knowledge. There is a responsibility to understand and appreciate where this knowledge has come from and to hopefully pass on (to give) more than you have taken therefore keeping the art alive and applicable to modern times whilst having respect and awareness of more than just the physical application and excellence.

Book excerpt: "Karel is one of my favourite training partners. The insights in his book are excellent to learn many techniques for advanced martial artists."- Georges St. Pierre, 12 time UFC World Champion, one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time & BJJ Black Belt The concept of "fighting" is at the heart of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We study the art to learn how to win fights. We even refer to matches in our sport competitions as "fights". The methods of learning the art are rugged, and at best transform our bodies into fighting machines. But applying this fight mindset to everyday training can cause us to use methods that destroy training longevity, and ultimately rob us of the ability to practice the art we love. What good is learning to fight like a badass if your body is too broken to put up a fight?Renzo Gracie Black Belt, Karel "Silver Fox" Pravec wants to share his insights as a 23+ year practitioner of, and competitor in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In his first book, Fluid BJJ, Professor Pravec provides concepts, transitions, and drilling sequences that are geared towards practicing the combat art in a way that allows us to exhibit greater levels of mastery and ability as we age. And to ultimately return to the core essence of BJJ: The application and triumph of human intelligence to the problem of fighting.Endorsed by martial arts legends:- Master Renzo Gracie, Grandson of BJJ Founder and Author of Mastering Jiu-Jitsu- Matt Serra, former UFC World Champion & Decorated BJJ Black Belt- Georges St. Pierre, 12-time UFC World Champion- Firas Zahabi, Renowned MMA Coach

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Power of Nonviolence, written by Richard Bartlett Gregg in 1934 and revised in 1944 and 1959, is the most important and influential theory of principled or integral nonviolence published in the twentieth century. Drawing on Gandhi's ideas and practice, Gregg explains in detail how the organized power of nonviolence (power-with) exercised against violent opponents can bring about small and large transformative social change and provide an effective substitute for war. This edition includes a major introduction by political theorist, James Tully, situating the text in its contexts from 1934 to 1959, and showing its great relevance today. The text is the definitive 1959 edition with a foreword by Martin Luther King, Jr. It includes forewords from earlier editions, the chapter on class struggle and nonviolent resistance from 1934, a crucial excerpt from a 1929 preliminary study, a biography and bibliography of Gregg, and a bibliography of recent work on nonviolence.
