Book Cell Lineage and Fate Determination

Download or read book Cell Lineage and Fate Determination written by Sally A. Moody and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-10-29 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cell Lineage and Fate Determination provides a comprehensive view of the mechanisms regulating cell lineage and fate determination in an effort to understand how the fertilized egg is transformed into a complex of specialized tissues. It presents basic information on eight different animal models and recent developmental biological research done in each model. The book provides a focused forum presenting key information for researchers studying various aspects of developmental and cellular biology. Extensive use of tables and black-and-white and color figures helps illustrate each model. The book concludes by discussing future goals for bringing cellular, molecular, and genetic research to clinical applications and tissue replacement therapies. Key Features* Presents eight different animal models* Provides a focused forum on cell fate determination that provides comprehensive and key information for researchers* Illustrates the transitional relationship between researchers and clinicians* Includes the extensive use of tables and color figures

Download or read book Neuronal Development written by Nicholas C. Spitzer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies of simple and emerging systems have been undertaken to un derstand the processes by which a developing system unfolds, and to understand more completely the basis of the complexity of the fully formed structures. The nervous system has long been particularly in triguing for such studies, because of the early recognition of a multitude of distinctly differentiated states exhibited by nerve cells with different morphologies. Anatomical studies suggest that one liver cell may be very like another, but indicate that neurons come in a remarkable di versity of forms. This diversity at the anatomical level has parallels at the physiological and biochemical levels. It is becoming increasingly easy to characterize the different cellular phenotypes of neurons. The repeatability with which these phenotypes are expressed may account in part for the specificity and reliability with which neurons form con nections, and it has allowed precise description of the first appearance and further development of the differentiated characteristics of individ ual neurons from relatively undifferentiated precursor cells. This rep resents a major advance over our knowledge of development at the level of tissues, and makes it feasible to define and address questions about the underlying molecular mechanisms involved. Central to these advances has been the clear recognition that there is no single best preparation for the study of neuronal development. Furthermore, it has become evident that no single technique can tell us all we want to know.

Book Kidney Development Disease Repair and Regeneration

Download or read book Kidney Development Disease Repair and Regeneration written by Melissa Helen Little and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kidney Development, Disease, Repair and Regeneration focuses on the molecular and cellular basis of kidney development, exploring the origins of kidney lineages, the development of kidney tissue subcompartments, as well as the genetic and environmental regulation of kidney development. Special coverage is given to kidney stem cells and possible steps towards kidney repair and regeneration. Emphasis is placed on the fetal origins of postnatal renal disease and our current understanding of the molecular basis of damage and repair. Biomedical researchers across experimental nephrology and developmental biology will find this a key reference for learning how the underlying developmental mechanisms of the kidney will lead to greater advances in regenerative medicine within nephrology. Offers researchers a single comprehensive resource written by leaders from both the developmental biology and the experimental nephrology communities Focuses on understanding the molecular basis of organogenesis in the kidney as well as how this can be affected both genetically and environmentally Explains the underlying developmental mechanisms which influence the kidney’s inherent repair capacity Demonstrates how a deeper understanding of mechanisms will lead to greater advances in regenerative medicine

Book Essays on Developmental Biology Part B

Download or read book Essays on Developmental Biology Part B written by Paul Wassarman and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-03-10 with total page 916 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2016 Current Topics in Developmental Biology (CTDB) will celebrate its 50th or “golden anniversary. To commemorate the founding of CTDB by Aron Moscona (1921-2009) and Alberto Monroy (1913-1986) in 1966, a two-volume set of CTDB (volumes 116 and 117), entitled Essays on Development, will be published by Academic Press/Elsevier in early 2016. The volumes are edited by Paul M. Wassarman, series editor of CTDB, and include contributions from dozens of outstanding developmental biologists from around the world. Overall, the essays provide critical reviews and discussion of developmental processes for a variety of model organisms. Many essays relate the history of a particular area of research, others personal experiences in research, and some are quite philosophical. Essays on Development provides a window onto the rich landscape of contemporary research in developmental biology and should be useful to both students and investigators for years to come. Covers the area of developmental processes for a variety of model organisms International board of authors Part of two 50th Anniversary volumes proving a comprehensive set of reviews edited by Serial Editor Paul M.
