Book A Contribution to a Bibliography of Henri Bergson Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Contribution to a Bibliography of Henri Bergson Classic Reprint written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Contribution to a Bibliography of Henri Bergson The purpose of the present bibliography is to show the widespread and varied interest in Professor Bergson's philosophy, and completeness rather than selection has therefore been the aim of the compilers. No attempt has been made to list the newspaper literature of the subject, and short book reviews have generally been omitted, but all other literature, either book or periodical, which has come to the compilers' attention has been included. Titles which have been included without examination are starred. The bibliography includes 90 books and articles by Professor Bergson (including translations of his works) and 417 books and articles about him. These 417 items represent 11 different languages divided as follows: - French 170, English 159, German 40, Italian 19, Polish 5, Dutch 3, Spanish 3, Roumanian 2, Swedish 2, Russian 2, Hungarian 1. Translations of Professor Bergson's principal works are now available in many languages. So far the one most widely translated is L'Introduction a la Metaphysique which is now accessible in the English, German, Italian, Swedish, Hungarian, Polish, and Russian languages. The bibliography has been compiled by members of the staff of the University Library under the direction of Miss Isadore G. Mudge, the Reference Librarian, but thanks for special services are due to many outside the library staff who have given valuable aid. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bergson for Beginners: A Summary of His Philosophy The aim of this book is to give the reader a general sketch of the philosophy of Professor Henri Bergson, in the order of its development and in the simplest manner that is consistent with accuracy, and so to introduce him to the original works and more especially to the excellent English translations. The summary or synopsis of Time and Free Will is on a scale sufficient to show the nature of the argument; it has been made fuller than that of the later books in view of the obvious importance of the Esmi for the student, since it gives an exposition of the ideas which underlie the Whole of Bergson's philosophy. My summary was made from the French, but I have compared it with the English translation in order to avoid any confusion in technical terms. That I should have ventured to condense so eloquent and (if I may add a per sonal opinion) so generally cogent an argument must find its apology and vindication in a desire to lead others to his writings. Those who meet with obscurities or suspect misconceptions have thus an easy remedy. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Bergson Classic Reprint

Download or read book Bergson Classic Reprint written by Joseph Solomon and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bergson It has been thought worth including in the present series a sketch of the philosophy of a contemporary thinker, M. Bergson. The curiosity and admiration he has aroused in wide circles in this and other countries of Europe, and also in America, his reassertion - in a far more explicit form, it is true - of one of the imperishable ideas of antiquity, his bold arraignment which is at the same time in a way a justification of the whole course of philosophy from Socrates downwards, his conception, for the first time definite and duly limited, of evolution, and his great learning - all seem to justify his inclusion.
