Download or read book A constrained interactance model for trip distribution written by Gary D. Long and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To estimate the future volume of trips interchanging between each pair of zones within an urban area, a simple behavioral model of travel interaction is presented. The interactance model is subjected to a set of five constraints, which reflect pertinent conditions that should be fulfilled in the resulting distribution. A method is developed to distribute future trips in accordance with the interactance model so that all constraints will be satisfied. The constrained interactance model differs from other trip distribution models in that the distribution of trip lengths is constrained to result as given in advance. Furthermore, no model calibration is necessary. Rather than the conventional use of subjective judgements to distinguish the travel movements which warrant exogenous compensations to correct for socioeconomic biases, an objective procedure utilizing a statistical test is provided. Socioeconomic and geographic compensations, where needed, are applied between pairs of groups of contiguous and homogeneous zones rather than between individual zone pairs. A model is developed to determine the total number of zone pairs expected to have travel interactions in an urban area, as a function of the number of trips and zones. Another model which describes travel interaction propensities as related to travel disutility, is developed to indicate which pairs of zones are the least likely to have travel interactions, and should be dropped from the trip distribution, in order to restrict the number of travel interactions to the estimated total. ...
Download or read book Travel Forecasting Guidelines written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Implementing transportation improvements requires a significant effort that may involve several levels of planning; social, economic and environmental documentation; geometric and structural design; operations analysis; signalized intersection design; and/or pavement design. Accurate and timely traffic estimates and forecasts are basic to the entire transportation planning process and are essential to enable the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to effectively meet the mobility needs of the state. This guide provides an introduction to the transportation planning and travel demand forecasting requirements and establishes the policies, processes and methodologies for developing traffic forecasts for the various stages of TxDOT project development.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The statewide practice of urban travel forecasting in Texas is described. An overview of methods practiced and theoretical basis for travel modeling is presented in brief format. Each of the four steps used in the Texas Package travel modeling process is described. TRIPCAL5, the Texas Package trip generation method, is summarized. Trip distribution practice using the Texas Package ATOM model is included. Finally, the Texas Package methodology using the iterative traffic assignment process is described.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many decades scholars from various disciplines have been intrigued by the question whether there are unifying principles or models that have a validity in different disciplines. The building of such analytical frameworks bridging the gaps between scientific traditions is a very ambitious task and has not been very successful up till now. In the past - in a static context - several such principles have been defined and advocated at the edge of the natural sciences on the one hand and social sciences (in particular, economics and geography) on the other hand, mainly based on the paradigm of 'social physics'. Some important contributions to the integration of the spatial systems sciences and physics can be found in gravity theory and entropy theory, which have formed the comer stones of interaction models in space. This book is about spatial interaction models. It describes the origin, the history and the correspondence of such models from a 'social physics' perspective. It is emphasized that such models need a clear behavioural underpinning as a sine qua non for a valid use in spatial systems analysis. This view also explains the use of micro-based disaggregate choice models as a tool for analyzing spatial systems. This is mainly analyzed in Part A of this book.

Download or read book Texas Travel Forecasting Annotated Bibliography written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bibliography is part of an on-going research project between the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The bibliography has attempted to include all significant reports prepared by the Institute in support of urban transportation travel demand modeling and forecasting practice in Texas. An annotation is provided for those reports which still may be of interest to practitioners. Several reports which are now obsolete due to improvements in computer technology are included for completeness and historical interest. In addition several reports prepared by TxDOT which bear directly on travel demand modeling practice are included. The Department reports are not complete and users of this bibliography are requested to provide the Institute with copies of Department reports not presently included so that they may be included in future revisions. The bibliography is organized into six sections: trip generation, trip distribution, traffic assignment, travel surveys, air quality analysis, and overview. Reports are placed in each section according to the phase of modeling covered by the report. However, since the modeling phases are interdependent, most reports will cover aspects of more than one phase. Reports which clearly cover more than one modeling phase are placed in the overview section.
