Download or read book A Conservative s Primer on the Bible written by Bob Ward and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-10-02 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a rational attempt to document what is referred to in the Bible as worshipping "in truth." The approach is to first convince the reader that the Bible is the true word of God; that is is infallible; and that it is the only source of God's message to man that we are ever to get. With that accomplished, the scriptures are used to describe God's attributes, often by showing how God dealt with the various characters and peoples in events recounted in the Bible. Still using only scriptures to develop the narrative, it goes into God's selection of a particular people to prepare future Christians for the fulfillment of His plan for mankind. The need for salvation is revealed, and Jesus is presented to deliver salvation, to the eternal exaltation of Jesus. The conversion process whereby one goes from lost sinner to saved saint is described.

Thought-provoking new book espouses the ideals of conservatism to protect American interests Lone Pine, CA (Release Date TBD) With financial powerhouses going bankrupt or being sold, and America deep in the despair of an economic recession, there is something definitely wrong with our country today. The US Presidential elections is looming in the horizon, the chance to set this great nation back on track is an opportunity that should not be missed. Author and conservative thinker R.D. Cook enlightens readers with the problems besetting the US and proposals to correct them in this thought-provoking book, A Primer for Conservative Activism. R.D. Cook, who bills himself as An Everyday, Non-famous American, slams secular and socialist liberals in A Primer for Conservative Activism. Even some Republicans will feel his barbs as he exposes some of the more blatant abuses being forced on American citizens by all three branches of our government but more especially by the far left liberals in our society. This book identifies the problems in our country and proposes actions for conservatives and moderates to counter these erosions of the Constitution, our way of life, and national identity. Some of the areas addressed include the following: the tragedy of abortion rulings by the courts; the twisting of the meaning of the Constitution by the Supreme Court; the dangers of liberal indoctrination in our public schools; irresponsible government spending; taxes and their effects on our economy and society; the political and societal costs of illegal immigration; the dangers of Islamofascism; the misguided approach to climate change; and the true meaning of religion as intended by our Founding Fathers. Download or read book The Devil You Know written by Elicka Peterson Sparks and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2016-02-23 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this trenchant examination of Christianity’s dark side, a criminologist argues persuasively that high rates of violent crime in the United States can be correlated with Christian conservative attitudes, especially in regard to social mores and politics. Of particular concern is “Christian nationalism.” Supporters of this movement argue that America was founded as a Christian nation and they work to install their fundamentalist brand of Christianity as the dominant factor in American political and social life. Far from being a fanatic outlier sect, this group is shown to have significant cultural influence, especially in the American South. Not coincidentally, the author suggests, the South also has the highest homicide rates. Noting the violent biblical passages often cited by religious conservatives, their sense of righteousness, their dogmatic mindset that tolerates no dissent, and their support for harshly punitive measures toward “sinners,” Peterson Sparks shows that their worldview is the ideal seedbed for violence. Not only does this mindset make violent reactions in interpersonal conflicts more likely, the author says, but it exacerbates the problems of the criminal justice system by advocating policies that create high incarceration rates. The author also devotes particular attention to the victimization of women, children, and LGBT people, which follows from this rigid belief system. While not resorting to a blanket condemnation of Christianity or religion as a whole, Peterson Sparks issues a wake-up call regarding conservative Christianity’s toxic mixture of fundamentalism, authoritarian politics, patriotism, and retributory justice.

Download or read book Introduction To Bibliology written by Jefrey D. Breshears and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-04-25 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All serious Christians understand the importance of Bible study, but relatively few have a solid foundation in bibliology or an informed and thoughtful philosophy of the Bible. In Introduction to Bibliology, Jefrey Breshears explores issues of vital interest and concern to Christians and non-Christians alike regarding the content and authority of the Bible, including: - What is the Bible? If asked to define the Bible without using the familiar cliche, "The Bible is the written Word of God," how would you respond? - Does the Bible present a coherent, consistent, comprehensive, and compelling worldview and philosophy of life? - Is there a qualitative difference between the kind of inspiration that we encounter in Scripture and that which motivates gifted writers, speakers, preachers, composers, and artists to produce their works? - Why is it reasonable to believe that the Bible was supernaturally inspired? - What are the origins of the Bible, and how were the early manuscripts composed? - What were the criteria by which certain books were included or excluded from the Bible? - What are the basic principles that should guide our interpretation of Scripture? - How can we be confident that the Bible has been accurately preserved and transmitted through the centuries? In this substantive yet digestible study, Jefrey Breshears addresses these and many other issues and concerns that every Christian--and non-Christian--should know about the Bible.
Download or read book Kissing Fish written by Roger Wolsey and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-01-10 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity receives a lot of attention in the media, but the most frequently discussed version represents a type of Christianity that sometimes turns people away from the Church. Kissing Fish presents a postmodern systematic theology of progressive Christianity, a growing movement that reclaims the radical message of the Gospel. This informative, contemplative, and entertaining book will guide you through the beliefs that inspire us to love one another in the transformative way that Jesus proclaimed, including practices that will take your faith to a new level. Kissing Fish is a scholarly yet thoroughly accessible introduction to progressive Christianity. While the intended target audience for this work would seem to be those who have either left the Christian faith or never adopted it at all; the work is filled with pearls of wisdom for all of us, whether associated with Christianity or not. Kissing Fish is a truly remarkable work, serving both as a reminder of the beauty and grace that form the central tenets of the faith, while offering a graceful yet prophetic rebuttal to its more exclusionary tendencies. Kissing Fish is part theological text and part tell-all personal spiritual journey. Imagine a down-to-earth combination of the works of Marcus Borg, Anne Lamott, Jim Wallis, Rob Bell, Shane Claiborne, Diana Butler-Bass, Brian McLaren, Walter Wink, Wes Howard-Brook, and Donald Miller. A profound romp that informs and inspires.
Download or read book It Did Happen Here The Rise of Fascism in Contemporary Society written by Milan Zafirovski and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-04-12 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues and demonstrates that fascism did happen in contemporary society such as especially America, as during post-2016. It classifies and discusses the main elements of fascism to see if these reveal and replicate themselves in America post-2016. It discovers the specific syndromes of fascism in America post-2016 that reveal and replicate universal fascist features. It detects the main social causes of fascism in America post-2016. It identifies primary counterforces to fascism in America and elsewhere. Lastly, the book constructs a composite fascism index and calculates fascism indexes for Western and comparable societies like OECD countries. These indexes provide suggestive evidence that fascism happened in America and other OECD countries, even if not in Western Europe, especially Scandinavia.
Download or read book Sacred Tropes Tanakh New Testament and Qur an as Literature and Culture written by Roberta Sabbath and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009-09-30 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary sacred text scholarship has been stimulated by a number of intersecting trends: a surging interest in religion, sacred texts, and inspirational issues; burgeoning developments in and applications of literary theories; intensifying academic focus on diverse cultures whether for education or scholarship. Although much has been written individually about Tanakh, New Testament, and Qur’an, no collection combines an examination of all three. Sacred Tropes interweaves Tanakh, New Testament, and Qur’an essays. Contributors collectively and also often individually use mixed literary approaches instead of the older single theory strategy. Appropriate for classroom or research, the essays utilize a variety of literary theoretical lenses including environmental, cultural studies, gender, psychoanalytic, ideological, economic, historicism, law, and rhetorical criticisms through which to examine these sacred works.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over twenty-one faithful evangelical Bible teachers have joined together in this work to both honor the legacy of Dr. Mal Couch as well as to promote a solid, sacred, and safe theological manual for the body of Christ. Colleagues and friends of Dr. Couch, such as Dr. Wayne House, Dr. Norman Geisler, Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Dr. Timothy Demy, and more, along with many of Mals students and disciples, set forth in this work a biblical and practical theology. The first half of the book covers all twelve of the major biblical doctrines of Christianity. The last half covers some of the hottest theological topics and practical issues that present-day believers ought to be aware of in order to properly defend the faith. In chapter 25 you will meet many of the disciples in Christ that Mal taught over the years as they express their gratitude for this godly giant of the faith. So if you are curious about what a holistic evangelical faith looks like, and even curious as to how dispensationalism fits within orthodox evangelicalism, this book will provide for you a solid resource for many years to come.
