Book Evaluating Improving and Judging Faculty Performance in Two Year Colleges

Download or read book Evaluating Improving and Judging Faculty Performance in Two Year Colleges written by Charles Finley and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2000-03-30 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With nearly 48 percent of all U.S. undergraduates attending community and technical colleges, the two-year sector is an integral part of our nation's higher education system and a vital part of our nation's future. The need for effective faculty evaluation and professional development within two-year colleges stems partly from the size of this sector and also from the diversity of its program offerings and its student body. Miller and his co-authors bring timely, authoritative, and practical material to two audiences in this rapidly growing field of education: first, teachers who have permanent appointments but could use professional development and improvement; and, second, the already large and still growing number of part-time instructors who could use more evaluating and improving. This book is intended to be a direct assistance for these groups as well as to administrators who must make personal decisions. This professional book is for human resource managers and staff development officers of two-year colleges. A greater emphasis needs to be placed on human resource management, according to Miller and his co-authors, that will result in better personnel decision making.

Book A Comparative Study of Full time and Part time Faculty Engagement at a Suburban Community College

Download or read book A Comparative Study of Full time and Part time Faculty Engagement at a Suburban Community College written by Mark J. McFadden and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research study was to compare full-time and part-time community college faculty members' level of engagement and identify areas in which these faculty groups experience differing levels of engagement. Faculty engagement has been positively linked with student engagement and student success (CCCSE, 2014; McClenney, Marti & Adkins, 2007; Umbach & Wawrzynski, 2005). With the increased use of part-time faculty, particularly in community colleges, understanding any differences in level of engagement between these cohorts of faculty will help guide institutions in efforts to increase overall faculty engagement. This causal comparative study compared engagement level, using a previously developed tool, for full-time and part-time faculty members at a single community college. All faculty members were invited to participate. Data collected included questions to quantify the constructs of physical engagement, emotional engagement and cognitive engagement. The three dimensions are combined to quantify overall engagement. The study found no statistical difference between full-time and part-time faculty members in overall engagement, or in any of the three dimensions of engagement. Implications of these results, as well as recommendations for future research, are outlined in this study.

Book Job Satisfaction Levels Among Adjunct and Full time Faculty in Arkansas Community Colleges

Download or read book Job Satisfaction Levels Among Adjunct and Full time Faculty in Arkansas Community Colleges written by Donald Jacob Hutchinson and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the study was to examine the job satisfaction levels of adjunct and full-time faculty at community colleges in Arkansas. The study used Herzberg's Motivation/Hygiene theory as a framework for understanding job satisfaction and factors that lead to job satisfaction/dissatisfaction. The study also examined the difference in overall job satisfaction between adjunct faculty and full-time faculty. The findings of this study support Herzberg's Motivation/Hygiene theory. Subsequent findings showed that adjuncts are generally more satisfied with their job than their full-time counterparts. The findings of the analyses also identified key components or factors that contribute to the overall job satisfaction of full-time and adjunct faculty members. The research findings should help education leaders to improve the working conditions for faculty at community colleges and help improve the overall job satisfaction of both groups.

Book Hiring the Next Generation of Faculty New Directions for Community Colleges Number 152

Download or read book Hiring the Next Generation of Faculty New Directions for Community Colleges Number 152 written by Cejda and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-01-18 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first chapter in this volume presents an overview of the faculty personnel challenges facing community colleges; the next three discuss the socialization and professional development of new faculty. Authors stress the importance of understanding differences among the typs of community colleges and the importance of gender and racial/thnic diversity among the facultry of the institutions who educate the majority of undergraduate females and students of color. The volume concludes with chapters on legal aspects related to the faculty employment and the experiences of presidents and senior instructional administrators, giving valuable guidance to those actively involved in the hiring process. At the heart of this volume is the continued commitment to the community college ideal of providing educational access and, through quality instruction, facilitating student learning and success. Previous research indicated that community college faculty retire at or near the traditional age of sixty-five. With an aging faculty, enrollments that are reaching unprecedented levels, and the federal goverment calling for the community college to take an even greater role in workforce training, community colleges will need to both replace significant portions of their faculty and hire additional faculty lines between now and 2020. This next hiring wave has implications for community colleges, the diverse student populations who attend these institutions, and society in general. This is the 152nd volume of the Jossey-Bass quarterly report series New Directions for Community Colleges. Essential to the professional libraries of presidents, vice presidents, deans, and other leaders in today's open-door institutions, New Directions for Community Colleges provides expert guidance in meeting the challenges of their distinctive and expanding educational mission.
