Book A Comparative Analysis of Factors Affecting the Career Orientation of Naval Officers and Federal Civilian Engineers

Download or read book A Comparative Analysis of Factors Affecting the Career Orientation of Naval Officers and Federal Civilian Engineers written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis examines factors that affect the career orientation of United States Navy Surface Warfare and Submarine designated officers and federally employed civilian engineers and scientists at the Naval Avionics Center. Biodemographic, tenure, satisfaction, and expectations-related variables were tested for correlation with intent to remain in the organization for the period of service corresponding to the derived definition of 'career'. The results were used to construct models for each of the above sample groups and the Logit regression procedure was used to measure the impact of each retained variable on career intent. Data for the military samples were taken from the 1985 DOD Survey. Data for the Naval Avionics Center sample were collected using a survey designed and administered by the authors. The thesis identifies different behavior patterns between the three samples. Additionally the thesis provides insight as to the relative and comparative impacts of the factors deemed significant and their potential influence on retention policy. Keywords: Job satisfaction; Organizational commitment; Employee turnover; Multivariate analysis; Logit regression; Turnover model; Career intent; Officer turnover; Federal civilian engineers; Surface warfare officers; Submarine officers; Theses. (sdw).

Download or read book An Analysis of the Factors Affecting the Career Orientation of Federal Civilian Engineers written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was conducted to analyze the factors that affect the career orientation of federal civilian engineers at the Naval Avionics Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. One hundred and sixty-seven scientists and engineers from several engineering divisions were surveyed regarding turnover intentions. Based on literature reviews in the area of turnover with this particular population, a model was developed containing several factors related to intent to remain in the organization. Results indicated that this model predicts the turnover intention with 87.5 percent accuracy. Findings are interpreted in light of ongoing efforts on an organization-wide basis to introduce change in the Center's culture through a quality management program. Keywords: Career orientation, Job satisfaction turnover. (sdw).

Book An Analysis of the Factors Affecting the Career Orientation Turnover Behavior of Female Naval Officers

Download or read book An Analysis of the Factors Affecting the Career Orientation Turnover Behavior of Female Naval Officers written by Richard W. Lowell and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis examines the effects of biodemographic, personal, tenure, economic, civilian, alternatives, and job related factors on the career orientation/turnover decisions of female Naval Officers. This study uses individual level data from the 1985 DOD Survey of Officer and Enlisted Personnel. A binary logit analysis was conducted on two groups of female officers to investigate the effects of the selected variables on short and long term career intentions. Logit analysis relates the likelihood of a female naval officer choosing to remain in service to specified turnover factors. The results high-light potential policy problems that may be addressed by manpower planners, to reduct turnover and increase career orientation of female naval officers. Keywords: Short term, Long term, Thesis.

Book An Analysis of the Factors Affecting the Career Orientation of Junior URL Unrestricted Line Naval Officers

Download or read book An Analysis of the Factors Affecting the Career Orientation of Junior URL Unrestricted Line Naval Officers written by Raymond J. Ashcraft and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis constructs and tests a model of the career orientation of junior unrestricted line naval officers. Specifically, the influence of biodemographic characteristics, length of service, family financial situation, intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction, and perception of external job opportunities are investigated. Results indicate that variables which assess the individual's total amount of sea duty, probability of finding a good civilian job, and satisfaction with the extrinsic aspects of the military job are most important in predicting the career orientation of junior naval officers with between eighteen months and seven-and-one-half years of active service. Knowledge of the variables in the model, and their relative influence on the career intentions of junior naval officers can provide manpower planners with information valuable for managing the retention of these officers. (Theses).

Book Factors Influencing the Career Orientation of Junior Officers in the United States Navy

Download or read book Factors Influencing the Career Orientation of Junior Officers in the United States Navy written by Wesley Henry Schmidt (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis develops and tests a working model to analyze the career orientation of the junior military officer. In particular, the influence of Navy personnel policies on junior officer career orientation is explored. There are 5 variable categories in this model. The model shows that the variables which measure the individual's overall satisfaction with Navy life are the most influential. The model explains over 40% of the variance in the career orientation among junior officers with more than two and less than ten years of active duty. For two specific subsets of these officers, 60% of the variance in career orientation is explained. Additionally, several conclusions are developed regarding the influence of commission source, perception of alternative job opportunities, an officer's position within his period of obligated service, and his satisfaction regarding the intrinsic and extrinsic aspects of his military job on the career orientation behavior of junior officers in the United States Navy. Knowledge of the relative influence of the variables in this model will provide manpower planners with information needed to evaluate the success of personnel policies designed to increase junior officer retention.

Download or read book A Comparative Analysis Between Retention of Junior Officers in the Navy and of Junior Executives in Industry written by and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The retention of well trained and qualified junior officers in the United States Navy has long been a serious problem that is becoming more acute every day. This study compares certain relevant factors of both the navy and industry that affect retention of officers and junior executives alike. It analyzes the problems confronting young men about to select a career in either the navy or industry, with the hope that it can make sound recommendations on how to increase the retention rate in the navy. The appendix contains an analysis of an entirely new and radical approach to induce young officers to seek a career as a naval officer. (Author).
