Book Atlas of Wood Bark and Pith Anatomy of Eastern Mediterranean Trees and Shrubs

Download or read book Atlas of Wood Bark and Pith Anatomy of Eastern Mediterranean Trees and Shrubs written by Alan Crivellaro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-07-26 with total page 589 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas presents anatomical descriptions of the xylem, bark and pith of 264 species belonging to 71 families. It highlights the anatomical diversity of trees, shrubs, dwarf shrubs, woody lianas and several of the prominent perennial herbs from the Eastern Mediterranean region, with a focus on the island of Cyprus. The island’s topography and biogeographic history combine to provide a wide range of habitats and diverse flora including widespread, endemic, and ornamental species. The monograph for each species includes a description of the anatomical structures of the stem and twig xylem and the twig’s bark and pith, as well as color micrographs of double-stained sections of each of these plant parts. These entries are accompanied by a photograph and a brief description of the plant including stem wood density, height, habit, flower, leaf and fruit characteristics, and a map showing its geographic and altitudinal distribution in the region. Xylem descriptions follow the IAWA lists of microscopic features for hardwood and softwood identification. For bark and pith descriptions, a new coding system developed by the authors is applied. Lastly, the work offers a key for wood identification that was developed to differentiate between groups of species by using a small number of features that are unambiguous and clearly visible. The atlas will be a valuable guide for botanists, ecologists, foresters, archeologists, horticulturists and paleobotanists.

From Acanthaceae to Zygophyllaceae, this book features magnificent color portraits of 200 flowering-plant families from around the world. The deconstructed plant parts--flowers, leaves, stamens, and fruits--are individually scanned and arranged side by side on black background to provide unique insight into how plants grow and what they look like. The addition of text describing the plant families, and cross sections of the organs of some species, makes this book a valuable resource for botanical artists and horticultural enthusiasts.

Book Colour Atlas of Medicinal Plants

Download or read book Colour Atlas of Medicinal Plants written by R.K. Bhutya and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proper identification of medicinal plants is still a great problem at this time. It has also drawn the attention from common men in general and scholars in the medical streams. In the light of the above, the curiosity about the sources of the medicines, medicinal plants in most of the cases, has drawn considerable interest among all quarters of the medical science. In addition, in the absence of proper knowledge related to the identification of medicinal plants, many plants remained either unidentified or wrongly identified. In this book, an attempt is made to fill the above identified gaps. It is my firm belief that this book will be of immense use to Ayurveda experts, teachers, students of post-graduates and under-graduates Ayurvedic courses, researchers, students of botany, scientists, pharmacologists, pharmaceutical organizations, pharmacists, biochemists, medical men and even common men.
