Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brewster Rogerson started collecting clematis in 1971 while he was a professor of English literature at Kansas State University. At that time, he described himself as "a rather clumsy gardener". But by the time of his death in 2015, he was considered a "genius of the genus" and world-renowned expert. This 48 page booklet presents the history of the Rogerson Clematis Collection as it became established, grew in size, moved half way across the country, and eventually found a permanent home at Luscher Farm Park in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Included are numerous quotes by Brewster taken from his prolific correspondence with other clematarians. Though the plants in the collection were grown in containers for the first 35 years, when the collection moved to the farm, the Rogerson Clematis Garden was established and the plants were planted in display gardens with companion plants. These display gardens are described in detail, and there's also a section on notable clematis in the collection. The collection's curator, Linda Beutler, discusses her affiliation with Brewster and her love of clematis, and the volunteer organization that cares for the collection and garden is also introduced. This booklet includes over 100 beautiful color photographs, mostly of clematis, with the names provided for each one.

Book Celebration of the Everyday

Download or read book Celebration of the Everyday written by Colette Nys-Mazure and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2004 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not available for sale in France. Sometimes described as a «poetic essay», Celebration of the Everyday represents a confluence of genres. Written in prose, it possesses distinctive poetic qualities. It meets high intellectual standards, yet appeals to a broad readership. Colette Nys-Mazure proposes a certain «art of living», a search for the beauty and pleasures to be found in the simple things of everyday life, and also for the strength to cope with hardships and accept our mortality. Whether she speaks of joy or sorrow, love or misunderstanding, life or death, solitude or togetherness, travel, art, literature, or children, she invites us to view the «everyday» as we seldom take time to see it.
