Book Similarity law Entrainment Method for Two dimensional Turbulent Boundary Layers in Pressure Gradients

This book was released on 1975 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical relations have been derived for calculating a developing two-dimensional turbulent boundary layer in a pressure gradient from two simultaneous differential equations: momentum and shape parameter. An entrainment method is used to obtained the shape parameter equation. Both equations incorporate the velocity similarity laws that provide a two-parameter velocity profile general enough to include any range of Reynolds numbers. The entrainment factor is based on the characteristics of equilibrium pressure gradients in a way which can accommodate the usual pressure gradients found in engineering applications. The method includes a newly formed wake modification for the similarity laws as well as added effects due to low Reynolds numbers. The variation of momentum loss boundary-layer thickness, local skin friction, and local velocity profile may be calculated for the boundary layers on hydrofoils and two-dimensional appendages. The various formulations are shown to correlate well with available experimental data. (Author).

Book Prediction of Turbulent Boundary Layers and Wakes in Compressible Flow by a Lag Entrainment Method

Download or read book Prediction of Turbulent Boundary Layers and Wakes in Compressible Flow by a Lag Entrainment Method written by J. E. Green and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rapid method is presented for predicting the development of turbulent boundary layers and wakes taking account of the influence of the upstream flow history on the turbulent stresses. The method employs the momentum integral equation, the entrainment equation and an equation for the streamwise rate of change of entrainment coefficient. This last, developed from the equation for shear stress which Bradshaw, Ferriss and Atwell derived from the turbulent kinetic energy equation, explicitly represents the balance between the advection, production, diffusion and dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy. The application of the method to two-dimensional and axisymmetric flows is described, and it is shown how secondary influences on the turbulence structure such as longitudinal surface curvature, can be logically taken into account. Comparisons with experiment show that, for incompressible flow, the method is fully comparable comparable in accuracy with the best of the methods assessed at the Stanford Conference of 1968. For compressible flow, the accuracy of the method in flow at constant pressure is ensured by its derivation, but the available experimental data do not enable its accuracy in flows with strong pressure gradients to be assessed with any finality. Book An Approximate Method for the Calculation of the Reynolds Analogy Factor for a Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layer in a Pressure Gradient

Download or read book An Approximate Method for the Calculation of the Reynolds Analogy Factor for a Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layer in a Pressure Gradient written by Neal Tetervin and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method predicts that a positive pressure gradient increases and a negative pressure gradient decreases the ratio of Stanton number to friction coefficient. The Crocco relation between the velocity and total enthalpy for a non-adiabatic surface and zero pressure gradient is generalized to non-zero pressure gradient. The relation between the velocity and the total enthalpy varies markedly from the flat plate Crocco relation as the pressure gradient departs from zero. The magnitude of the variation depends on the velocity profile shape parameter. (Author).

Book Calculation of Complex Turbulent Flows

Download or read book Calculation of Complex Turbulent Flows written by George Tzabiras and published by Witpress. This book was released on 2000 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A selection of invited chapters focusing on developments in the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to compressible or incompressible flows dominated by turbulence effects. These may be applied to complex geometrical configurations or flow-fields in simpler geometries requiring higher-order turbulence modelling, or suitably modified low-order models, to calculate crucial parameters such as instabilities, transition, separation, accurate description of velocity and scalar fields, and local and total forces.
