The painters have their images, there are no words to compete with them in what they are doing. A few, a very few, of the poets come closest. Its as if I've made a wrong choice. Yet no choice at all. Peter Cowan, a writer's writer who has created a position at the leading edge of his craft . . . reveals situations only gradually and indirectly, without ceremonial fanfare, hinting at possibilities and alternatives, engaging the reader in a process of understanding and a questioning of conventional assumptions and values. - Bruce Bennet

Book One Simple Journey with Cee and Tee

Download or read book One Simple Journey with Cee and Tee written by Craig Nelson Mahon and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-07-27 with total page 675 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “One Simple Journey” was written to log ‘our’ journey and ‘our’ mission to slow down and discover more meaning to ‘our’ lives. Both Tee and I felt that the only way to achieve this was to break away, almost completely, from everyday life and search for balance! It is a simple story that takes you (the reader) on a journey across this great country of ours, and offers you an opportunity to see an ordinary Australian couple’s perspective of that journey. Readers will travel with Tee and I on our daily tour and we have set up a link so you can cross reference our destinations in picture form (google - OneSimpleJourneywithCeeandTee or email - [email protected] for a link. Alternatively, you can put the book down and research the areas through other means, which will give you a more vivid and pleasant way of joining Tee and I on our journey. In addition to the “Simple Journey” we have added some personal experiences and a number of personal motto’s and beliefs. These family experiences are part of ‘our’ personal journey and are expressed purely for “us”, as “One Simple Journey” has been penned for “us” and was never intended for widespread publication. These personal beliefs are those that we have gathered over our lifetime, with many forming how both Tee and I approach life. So please – Read On – and enjoy, but I ask that you don’t expect too much, as this book is “Raw and Simple”. It was written and is intended only to distract you from your daily existence and throw another perspective at you. "There is always a thousand reasons not to take a long break from mainstream society – But only one reason why you should – “Choose Wisely!”"

Book Countdown to a Moon Launch

Download or read book Countdown to a Moon Launch written by Jonathan H. Ward and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thousands of workers labored at Kennedy Space Center around the clock, seven days a week, for half a year to prepare a mission for the liftoff of Apollo 11. This is the story of what went on during those hectic six months. Countdown to a Moon Launch provides an in-depth look at the carefully choreographed workflow for an Apollo mission at KSC. Using the Apollo 11 mission as an example, readers will learn what went on day by day to transform partially completed stages and crates of parts into a ready-to-fly Saturn V. Firsthand accounts of launch pad accidents, near misses, suspected sabotage, and last-minute changes to hardware are told by more than 70 NASA employees and its contractors. A companion to Rocket Ranch, it includes many diagrams and photographs, some never before published, to illustrate all aspects of the process. NASA’s groundbreaking use of computers for testing and advanced management techniques are also covered in detail. This book will demystify the question of how NASA could build and launch Apollo missions using 1960s technology. You’ll discover that there was no magic involved – just an abundance of discipline, willpower, and creativity.

Book Rose by Any Other Name

Download or read book Rose by Any Other Name written by Maureen McCarthy and published by Roaring Brook Press. This book was released on 2008-03-18 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Don'tcha just hate the way you get caught up in stuff without really wanting to? Then it goes a bit further, and suddenly you're one of those jerks you hate because . . . you can't be trusted. ROSE WANTS NOTHING MORE THAN TO GET AWAY. Last year she'd had it all: pre-law in the fall, a budding romance, and her best friend, Zoe. Now Zoe will never forgive her, her family is crumbling, and the secret that's been boiling up inside her is bubbling a little too close to the surface. All Rose needs to escape are an old van, her surfboard, the road, the ocean, and . . . mom? When Rose's mother jumps in the passenger seat right as Rose is about to set off, her trip takes an unexpected turn, filled with nagging memories of last year, and the looming scandal that refuses to be ignored. A twisting plot that keeps you guessing, told from the viewpoint of a realistically flawed yet snarky main character, makes this a book that just can't be put down.

Book Excursions in Realist Anthropology

Download or read book Excursions in Realist Anthropology written by David Zeitlyn and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Realism has become a dirty word in some social sciences, yet, despite fashionable new approaches involving multiple ontologies and the like, when anthropologists actually produce ethnographic accounts they are, still, indulging in realism in some form. Perhaps this is why ethnography, too, is unfashionable. Given the authors’ background as anthropologists committed to fieldwork, this book provides a theoretical grounding to justify and explain the sorts of accounts that anthropologists produce as the result of ethnographic research. The book’s approach starts from an acceptance that understanding is always incomplete, always improvable. This sort of partiality is viewed throughout the book as a strength. The challenge of anthropology is that it involves forms of translation: often across languages, but always between the unstated and the explicit. Accepting provisionality and incompleteness in the resulting translations provides ways of finding a middle ground between extreme versions of positivism and relativism. As such, this book argues for moderate realisms in a dappled world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “[Bubbling] over with the joy of scientific discovery. . . . Great fun for anyone looking to revive their childhood dinosaur obsessions.” —Publishers Weekly, starred review What if we woke up one morning all of the dinosaur bones in the world were gone? How would we know these iconic animals had a 165-million year history on earth, and had adapted to all land-based environments from pole to pole? What clues would be left to discern not only their presence, but also to learn about their sex lives, raising of young, social lives, combat, and who ate who? What would it take for us to know how fast dinosaurs moved, whether they lived underground, climbed trees, or went for a swim? Welcome to the world of ichnology, the study of traces and trace fossils—such as tracks, trails, burrows, nests, toothmarks, and other vestiges of behavior—and how through these remarkable clues, we can explore and intuit the rich and complicated lives of dinosaurs. With a unique, detective-like approach, interpreting the forensic clues of these long-extinct animals that leave a much richer legacy than bones, Martin brings the wild world of the Mesozoic to life for the twenty-first-century reader.
