Book Pandemic Flu Plan for the Church

Download or read book Pandemic Flu Plan for the Church written by Wendy J. Gade and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World health officials have identified several viruses that are progressing towards becoming a pandemic. Many expect a pandemic will happen in the next few years that could affect the entire worlds population. If a pandemic such as the one that occurred in 1918 were to take place, the healthcare system would be overwhelmed, and many people will die without the basics of lifes care essentials. This book provides in depth information on the circulating viruses and where they are today. Another section provides information for the Church to prepare individually and as a body to be set up as an alternative care facility in order to come beside the healthcare community. In addition, there are sections on learning the proper precautions and how to care for the sick. Such preparation would allow the Church to not fall victim but stand ready to provide care and minister to our neighbors and communities, thus allowing Her to bring the gospel message of our Lord Jesus Christ into the crisis situation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pandemic Re-Awakenings offers a multi-level and multi-faceted exploration of a century of remembering, forgetting, and rediscovering the influenza pandemic of 1918-1919, arguably the greatest catastrophe in human history. Twenty-three researchers present original perspectives by critically investigating the hitherto unexplored vicissitudes of memory in the interrelated spheres of personal, communal, medical, and cultural histories in different national and transnational settings across the globe. The volume reveals how, even though the Great Flu was overshadowed by the commemorative culture of the Great War, recollections of the pandemic persisted over time to re-emerge towards the centenary of the 'Spanish' Flu and burst into public consciousness following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapters chart historiographical neglect (while acknowledging the often-unnoticed dialogues between scientific and historical discourses), probe silences, and trace vestiges of social and cultural memories that long remained outside of what was considered collective memory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book opens when Dr. Covelli arrives in Boise after twenty years away from the West. Chris discovers that some of his acquaintances from the past are by now old, have died, or are no longer active in the circles he knew them from. Chris decides to make new friends. Through a phone line, he meets a certain Hank, who is seeking a special friend, and Chris is receptive. A relationship develops. Hank tells about his own past life, having grown up inside a community of polygamist Mormons in Colorado City, Arizona. Chris becomes acquainted with Hank's first wife, Marcia. Her character is exposed. It so happens that Marcia makes Hank beholden to a commitment to surrender money and willpower to her church under threat of personal and professional destruction. Hank is weak and incapable of opposing the destiny plotted against him by her and the church. Chris helps Hank stay the course and go along with his life until things may change. Later, Hank is forced to marry a second wife, to go back to the church from where he, years in the past, ran away, and to continue to practice cannibalism as when he was a child. Chris discovers the practice and reminisces about seeing it in two other parts of the world, in highly primitive societies. Hank narrates the history of his church and how they degenerated as a result of a devilish curse. Chris helps Hank escape the curse by assembling a harem in the house they share. From this experience, great excitement is derived by Chris and for the future of Hank, except that destiny had it otherwise. The grandest imperial treasure is bequeathed to Chris, but Hank reverts to his old ways, ending murdered by his own family.

Book Turn Up the Contrast

Book excerpt: From Shakespeare to cop shows, sitcoms to docudramas, for over three decades the CBC has presented viewers with every variety of television drama and has become Canada's closest equivalent to a national theatre. Turn Up the Contrast is the first book to explore the content of Canadian television drama and is both a critical analysis and a survey history of how Canadians have used the medium to tell themselves their own stories. As a part of her research, Mary Jane Miller watched thousands of hours of television, sampling series and viewing in their entirety shorter programs such as movies and mini-series. Asking a variety of questions, she selected a number of programs for detailed analysis, and devotees of The Beachcombers, King of Kensington, Seeing Things, Cariboo Country, Wojeck or A Gift to Last will be pleased to find their favourites among those discussed at length.
