Book A World Catalogue and Bibliography of the Jewel Beetles

Download or read book A World Catalogue and Bibliography of the Jewel Beetles written by C. L. Bellamy and published by Pensoft Pub. This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first complete world catalogue of the jewel beetles, the eighth largest beetle family Buprestidae and its small North American sister-group Schizopodidae, since Jan Obenberger's six fascicle (1926-1937) contribution to the Horn & Schenkling Coleopterorum Catalogus. Published in five volumes (3125 pages in total), this catalogue presents a full taxonomic history for all taxa, including fossils, along with distribution and type repository data. The catalogue follows the evolving modern classification which, for Buprestidae, employs 6 subfamilies, 47 tribes, 39 non-nominate subtribes, 513 genera and more than 14700 valid species. In addition, the first large bibliography on the subject concludes the catalogue with more than 8000 citations. The present volume 4 includes the remainder of Agrilinae (including the enormous genus Agrilus) through to the end of the family with the likely paraphyletic Trachyini, the leaf-miners, still grouped together.

Book Host Plants of World Agrilus Coleoptera Buprestidae

Download or read book Host Plants of World Agrilus Coleoptera Buprestidae written by Eduard Jendek and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-22 with total page 763 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The beetle genus Agrilus has over 3000 species which makes it the most numerous in the Animal Kingdom. Many species are serious pests of plants with high invasive potential. Among them, the notoriously known Agrilus planipennis invaded from Asia to North America where it killed tens of millions of ash trees, caused regulatory agencies to enforce quarantines and cost municipalities, property owners, nursery operators and forest products industries tens of millions of dollars. The monograph provides coherent, comprehensive and critical review on all known host plants for more than 680 Agrilus species. All host plants have assigned the confidence index from 0-3 based on the evaluated reliability which eliminates false records. All original and subsequent references for particular plants are cited at each Agrilus species. Data are organized from both, insect and plant viewpoints. Results are analyzed and illustrated by graphs and diagrams. The main impact of the monograph is seen in entomology, phytopathology, forestry, agriculture ecology and biocontrol.

Book Trogossitidae A review of the beetle family with a catalogue and keys

Download or read book Trogossitidae A review of the beetle family with a catalogue and keys written by Jiri Kolibac and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph contents a review of the beetle family Trogossitidae (Cleroidea). The worldwide distributed family includes 55 recent and 10 extinct genera with about 600 species that are classified within 3 subfamilies and 12 tribes. In spite of fewer number of species, Trogossitidae is morphologically and ecologically extremely diversified. There are four-eyed predators that fly, run and even jump around swiftly in forest clearings to contrast with slow-moving, fungivorous species that dwell under the bark of old trees. There are also species that squat on flowers to feed on pollen grains as well as minute creatures that have been extracted from forest litter. Brief descriptions of all genera as well as keys to all higher taxa are provided. All known species and subspecies are listed, together with complete taxonomic references back to 1910, the date of issue of their last catalogue. The work includes maps of distribution of all genera, colour photographs of generic representatives, SEM photographs and remarks on a phylogeny of particular taxa.

Book Archostemata Myxophaga Adephaga

Download or read book Archostemata Myxophaga Adephaga written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-08-28 with total page 1477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of the Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera gives a taxonomic overview of the most diverse group of all organisms living in the world-largest biogeographical area. The present volume is an updated edition of the first issue in 2003 but restricted to data published before the year 2000. It contains information about 33,914 taxa (together with synonyms), and increases the number of included species and other taxa by almost 5,000. In addition, thousands of species have their distributional data completed, and their ranks, systematic positions and nomenclature corrected. Almost two hundred new acts fix systematics and nomenclature, and numerous problems are discussed. Even such well known genera as Calosoma and Carabus, or tribes as Bembidiini and Panagaeini, are completely reorganized compared to the previously published catalogues. Thus, the work is a scaffold for biotic surveys, ecological studies, and nature conservation. It responds to the urgent need of an assessment of the still remaining forms of life, threatened by the on-going destruction of habitats. Taxonomy provides the basic building blocks of our understanding of the diversity of life. It stems from innate human curiosity: confronted with an unknown species we ask first “what is it”? Taxonomists recognize species and other systematic entities (taxa), define them and place them within the framework of known organisms, providing means for their subsequent identification. Book Volume 1 Morphology and Systematics Archostemata Adephaga Myxophaga Polyphaga partim

Download or read book Volume 1 Morphology and Systematics Archostemata Adephaga Myxophaga Polyphaga partim written by Rolf G. Beutel and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-12-22 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first of four volumes in the Handbook of Zoology series which treat the systematics and biology of Coleoptera. With approximately 350,000 described species, Coleoptera are by far the most species-rich order of insects and the largest group of animals of comparable geological age. The beetle volumes will meet the demand of modern biologists seeking to answer questions about Coleoptera phylogeny, evolution, and ecology. This first Coleoptera volume covers the suborders Archostemata, Myxophaga and Adephaga, and the basal series of Polyphaga, with information on world distribution, biology, morphology of all life stages (including anatomy), phylogeny and comments on taxonomy.

Book True Bugs Heteroptera of the Neotropics

Download or read book True Bugs Heteroptera of the Neotropics written by Antônio R. Panizzi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 904 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: True bugs (Heteroptera) are a diverse and complex group of plant-feeding and predatory insects important to food production, human health, the global economy and the environment. Within the nearly 43,000 species described around the world, Neotropical true bugs are particularly diverse, and much remains to be discovered about their biology and relations with other species. Inspired by the need for a comprehensive assessment, True Bugs (Heteroptera) of the Neotropics is the most complete and thorough review ever published. Experts in each of the seven infraorders have drawn together the scattered literature to provide detailed treatments of each major taxon. The most common and important species as well as select lesser known species in each major family are covered, highlighting morphology, classification, biology and ecology. The numerous color illustrations highlight key species and their adaptations, and importance to basic and applied sciences is discussed. Each chapter is based on an up-to-date review of the literature, and with a bibliography of more than 3,000 references, readers are presented with an unprecedented and vital and timely account of the true bugs of the Neotropical Region.
