Though we cannot attain such perfection, John said that followers of Jesus “should live their lives as Jesus did” (1 John 2:6 NLT). The process of becoming like Jesus is the work of the Holy Spirit, but the Spirit does not transform us without our cooperation. The premise of this book is that we enable the Spirit to make us like Jesus by cultivating seven habits. The seven habits are derived from Luke’s description of the first church in Acts 2:42-47. Luke was an honest historian who frankly recorded the sins and strife of the early church, yet this passage is thoroughly positive. In it, he mentions seven habits practiced by that ideal church. This book describes those habits, including practical suggestions for how to develop each. This book is titled 7 Habits for a Rich and Satisfying Life because our heavenly Father loves us and wants what’s best for us. We will find fulfillment in life as we fulfill his good design for us. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10 ESV), or as it says in the New Living Translation, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
