Download or read book The Hidden Secrets of Water written by Paolo Consigli and published by Watkins Media Limited. This book was released on 2017-09-19 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no more important substance on earth than water: it is the source of life, one of the four classic elements and makes up over 70% of our bodies and our planet. This remarkable new book allows us to discover and understand more about this most common of molecules. Water is the most common, and also the most important substance on Earth. We are hypnotically attracted to its simplicity, purity and transparency, as well as its astonishing physical behaviour, structural vibrations and ordered flow, not to mention its amazing therapeutic virtues. Despite its prevalence, however, this astonishing molecule still harbours many mysteries. Through the ages, not only scientists but also philosophers and mystics have sought to interpret the fact that our lives are completely dependent on water. They have drawn parallels with spiritual growth: water is always ready to change, to adapt itself, to create and transform; it could be seen as nature’s guide to improving and renewing ourselves in wisdom and serenity. By going further than just describing its attributes and celebrating its physical properties, The Hidden Secrets of Water seeks to uncover and understand the true depths of this most enigmatic of elements, taking the reader on a journey of discovery that covers the whole spectrum of water’s influence, traversing scientific, social and spiritual planes. From the Ancient Chinese concept of Yin and Yang to numerical and literary symbolism in the Torah, the Fibonacci sequence to string theory, this innovative, intelligent and far-reaching exploration seamlessly brings together modern science and ancient wisdom, technology and humanism, logic and mysticism in a way that will inspire and stimulate all.

Download or read book Strategy written by Fredmund Malik and published by Campus Verlag. This book was released on 2016-07-07 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes Malik's strategic solutions for the Revolutions of the New World, which are already underway. They are part of the Great Transformation 21 which the author will address in the book. In the six parts of this book, he will first look at the dynamics of the Great Transformation 21, its inherent risks of crisis and its opportunities, as well as the labor pains that the New World is suffering. After that, he will deal with the amazingly effective cybernetic systems for strategic navigation and the strategy maps required for that, as well as the empirical quantification of businesses, both existing and yet unknown, which will help break the new territory of innovation. Finally, Malik will reveal the patterns that the tidal currents of great transformations invariably follow, as well as the economic dynamics resulting from them and the strategies required to deal with them. In the last part of the book he will describe the revolutionary new methods that enable us to master groundbreaking strategic change with great precision and unprecedented time compression - at the "speed of light", so to speak. This way, even enormous corporate growth and size can be managed and turned into true strengths, with perfect ease and using innovative approaches where conventional approaches have proven useless.

Unabashed optimism, and unabashed racism, pervades many entries in the 11th, and provide its defining characteristics ... Despite its occasional ugliness, the reputation of the 11th persists today because of the staggering depth of knowledge contained with its volumes. It is especially strong in its biographical entries. These delve deeply into the history of men and women prominent in their eras who have since been largely forgotten - except by the historians, scholars"-- The Guardian, https://www.theguardian.com/books/booksblog/2012/apr/10/encyclopedia-britannica-11th-edition.
Download or read book Munich Re written by Johannes Bähr and published by C.H.Beck. This book was released on 2016-10-27 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Reinsurance has to be international in accordance with its nature." This is the well-known viewpoint of Carl von Thieme, one of the founders of Munich Re, who also served as its general director for many years. Thus, it was not a coincidence that the company rose to become the world market leader rather quickly after its founding in 1880. In the following period, Munich Re stayed on top or was occasionally second to Swiss Re. Nonetheless, the broader public does not know much about the company. Johannes Bähr and Christopher Kopper now present the first history of the reinsurer from its beginnings into the 1980s. Few companies have risen to become world market leaders as quickly as Munich Re, and only the fewest have succeeded in remaining at the top of the world market for as long. The company’s history reveals how insurers reacted to major catastrophes and technological shifts. Without sharing risks with reinsurers, countless direct insurers would not have survived the economic consequences of major natural catastrophes and would have been forced into bankruptcy by the weight of their payment obligations. Consequently, reinsurers even made coverage for some risks possible in the first place. Yet Munich Re itself also repeatedly contributed to the introduction of new segments of insurance, such as in the case of machine insurance or high-risk life insurance. Thus, the history of this pioneer of globalization is, at the same time, a history of dealing with risks and managing the distribution of risk. Last but not least, it is also the history of a German company that profited from the National Socialist dictatorship and, with great effort, had to find its way back into the world market after the two world wars.
