Book Design and Decision Support Systems in Architecture

Download or read book Design and Decision Support Systems in Architecture written by Harry J.P. Timmermans and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers collected in this volume were originally presented at the conference on Design and Decision Support Systems in Architecture and Urban Planning that was held in Mierlo, the Netherlands in July 1992. This conference was organized as one of the events celebrating the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at Eindhoven University of Technology. The organizing committee had a strong feeling that many interesting developments in this area were emerging within different institutional frameworks and informal networks that do not interact frequently. For example, scholars working on architectural problems are not particularly familiar with computer applications in urban planning. Likewise, although many computer-aided design systems claim to be based on principles of design methodology, serious discussions on the methodological underpinnings of such systems are relatively scarce. Consequently, we may have little opportunity to learn how scholars in closely related disciplines approach specific design or planning problems.

This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CAAd Futures is a Bi-annual Conference that aims at promoting the advancement of computer aided architectural design in the service of those concerned with the quality of the built environment. The conferences are organised under the auspices of the CAAD Futures Foundation which has its secretariat at the Eindhoven University of Technology. The Series of conferences started in 1985 in Delft, and has since travelled through Eindhoven, Boston, Zurich, Pittsburgh, Singapore, Munich, and Atlanta. The book contains the proceedings of the 9th CAAD Futures conference which took place at Eindhoven University of Technology, 8-11 of July, 2001. The Articles in this book cover a wide range of subjects and provide an excellent overview of the state-of-the-art in research on computer aided architectural design. The following categories of articles are included: Capturing design; Information modelling; CBR techniques; Virtual reality; CAAD education; (Hyper) Media; Design evaluation; Design systems development; Collaboration; Generation; Design representation; Knowledge management; Form programming; Simulation; Architectural analysis; Urban design. Information on the CAAD Futures Foundation and its conferences can be found at: www.caadfutures.arch.tue.nl. Download or read book Computers in Building written by Godfried Augenbroe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the establishment of the CAAD Futures Foundation in 1985, CAAD experts from all over the world meet every two years to present and document the state of the art of research in Computer Aided Architectural Design. Together, the series provides a good record of the evolving state of research in this area over the last fourteen years. The Proceedings this year is the eighth in the series. The conference held at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, includes twenty-five papers presenting new and exciting results and capabilities in areas such as computer graphics, building modeling, digital sketching and drawing systems, Web-based collaboration and information exchange. An overall reading shows that computers in architecture is still a young field, with many exciting results emerging out of both greater understanding of the human processes and information processing needed to support design and also the continuously expanding capabilities of digital technology.

Book Eco architecture IV

Download or read book Eco architecture IV written by C. A. Brebbia and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2012-09-01 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Containing the proceedings of the latest in a series of conferences on the emerging topic of eco-architecture, this book presents the newest research in the field. Eco-architecture requires that buildings be in harmony with nature, including their immediate environs. Locations, siting and orientation, as well as the materials used, should be chosen based on ecological appropriateness. Practitioners make every effort to minimize the use of energy at each stage of a building's life cycle, including that embodied in the extraction and/or fabrication as well as the transportation of the materials used and their assembly into the building. There is even consideration given to the ease and value of changing use of a building and component recycling when the building's life is over. Designers may also carefully control the energy required for building maintenance, not to mention lighting, heating and cooling, especially when the energy consumed is related to greenhouse gas emissions. Passive energy systems such as natural ventilation, summer shading and winter solar heat gain also play a role, as do alternative sources of energy for heat and electricity, e.g. solar and wind power.Papers presented cover topics such as: Ecological and cultural sensitivity; Design by passive systems ; Life cycle assessment; Quantifying sustainability in architecture; Resource and rehabilitation; Building technologies; Ecological impact of materials; Durability of materials; Adapted reuse ; Carbon neutral design ; Education and training; Case studies; New architecture frontiers; Art and kraft; Quality in architecture; Temporary architecture; Selection.

Book Towards Sustainable Building

Download or read book Towards Sustainable Building written by N. Maiellaro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the extended versions of selected papers presented at the first Mediterranean Conference "Sharing Knowledge on Sustainable Building" held at the Polytechnic ofBari in December 1999, supported by the National Research Council of Italy. The publication of this book was made possible through the efforts of the contributing Authors. Other people have provided invaluable support for the conference and for the preparation of this volume; in particular, I wish to thank Antonella Lerario for providing support in the final editing of the text and images. 1 As reported in Boonstra and Rovers (200 I) , people spend a great deal of time inside buildings; therefore, decisions about design, construction, use, maintenance, renovation, demolition, reuse and recycling of buildings have a huge impact on the sustainable development of our society. Technical aspects, however, should be supported by adequate policies, developed with appropriate tools and driven by meaningful challenges. For people involved in sustainable buildings, the conceptual frameworks, studies and experiences collected in this volume, organized into three parts - "Policies", "Tools" and "Challenges" - will help to advance knowledge allowing them to adopt and more efficiently implement such innovations sooner.
