Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Death is the one thing about life we can be sure of. But exactly how we shuffle off this mortal coil is another story altogether. Whilst the boring among us may well drift off in our sleep, and the unlucky suffer painfully in some horrible accident, very occasionally death will come in such an unusual way as to be particularly noteworthy. Ever since the politician Draco was suffocated by the gifts an appreciative audience showered him with in the 7th century BC, the fates have generously woven their magic to ensure that members of the human race have gone to meet the choir invisible in ever more interesting circumstances. This book examines over one hundred such cases, where the unexpected is the norm and the bizarre commonplace. From the humorous to the tragic and the gruesome, prepare yourself for a morbid trip through the kind of material you know the coroners secretly share at their Christmas parties...

Book The Value of Humanity

  • Author : L. Nandi Theunissen
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press

Download or read book The Value of Humanity written by L. Nandi Theunissen and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-02-07 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: L. Nandi Theunissen develops a non-Kantian account of the value of human beings. Against the Kantian tradition, in which humanity is absolutely valuable and unlike the value of anything else, Theunissen outlines a relational proposal according to which our value is continuous with the value of other valuable things. She takes the Socratic starting point that good is affecting, and more particularly, that good is a notion of benefit. If people are bearers of value, the proposal is that our value is no exception. Theunissen explores the possibility that our value is explained through reciprocal relations, or relations of interdependence, as when—as daughters, or teachers, or friends—we benefit others by being part or constitutive of relationships with them. She also investigates the possibility that we can be said to stand in a valuable relationship with ourselves. Ultimately, in The Value of Humanity, she proposes that people are of value because we are constituted in such a way that we can be good for ourselves in the sense that we are able to lead flourishing lives. Intuitively, a person matters because she matters to herself in a very particular sort of way; to appropriate a phrase, she is a being for whom her life can be an issue.

Book excerpt: War in Ukraine, Volume 3: Armed formations of the Luhansk People’s Republic, 2014–2022 focuses on the armed formations of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), one of the two separatist entities in the east of Ukraine. This volume aims to provide an overview of their formation in 2014, status up to the end of February 2022 (with some observations on their activities since the launch of Russia’s ‘Special Military Operation’), and combat equipment, while also exploring issues around identity and symbology. Since their formation in the fighting in eastern Ukraine during 2014, the armed formations of the Luhansk People’s Republic have been slowly consolidated into a more integrated fighting force. However, key units still maintain individual identities and centres of power. One area of focus of the title will be the technological improvisation of the Luhansk People’s Republic, which includes the creation of hybrid armoured vehicles of types not seen elsewhere. The extensive visual propaganda culture around the armed formations of the Luhansk People’s Republic is also explored. War in Ukraine, Volume 3: Armed formations of the Luhansk People’s Republic, 2014–2022 also presents a wealth of unique visual material including unit patches, photographs, diagrams and maps, and will be of interest to anyone studying the conflict in Ukraine.

This book was released on 2015-04-26 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Blount Count Journal published in Oneonta from 1909 to 1918. Compared to other Blount County papers, the Journal was only a small blip on the journalistic radar in Blount County. However, it is an often overlooked and untapped source of great genealogical and historical knowledge. While some of the articles mirror those published in its contemporary publications, often the Journal captured other obituaries and news missed by the Democrat. Most of the original copies of the Journal were found in the court house in Oneonta. These were reviewed for notices of births, marriages, obituaries and interesting news items. Missing issues from the court house were reviewed at the State Archives in Montgomery. This book will add to the body of knowledge of Blount County, Alabama and will serve as a useful tool for area genealogists and historians.

Book Slum Beautiful

Download or read book Slum Beautiful written by Kenny Attaway and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2007-10-25 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Slum beautiful is a remarkable, straight forward, poetic and eye stretching memoir of KyDeja Morgan’s (Slum Beautiful) struggling life. In her first 28 years of life she was molested, practiced blasphemous acts, robbed, sold drugs, used drugs, prostituted, and arrested and almost prosecuted for the murders of both her mother and brother. Like her other siblings, Slum was raised in a dysfunctional family that practiced open sex, used drugs, gambled and treated their home as a hangout for other addicts. Through her avowed journey in life, it would take Slum 28 years and 11 months, along with becoming homeless to find the beauty in her slum (mind, body, soul and surroundings.) she was able to connect, dig out and remove some of the most scattered and unraveling moments of her life thanks to the acts of soliloquy, prison and an unlikely fallen angel along the way. However, before Slum could share her newly found beauty she has to beat a slew of charges, including breaking and entering, robbery, murder-and come fourth with secrets that inadvertently prolonged her vicious life cycle. Slum Beautiful- in retrospect not only visits the most dangerous place on earth in our heart’s memory, but gives a mind-boggling, touch of retrograde amnesia exploring the inducement of dysfunction in Slum’s family that includes, molestation, sibling rivalry, systematic dependency, drug dependency, self hate, cultural hate, racism, and women and child abuse. Slum Beautiful explores how cycles of injustice begin, and how they can continue to plague without culminating. Penned with a poetic pen, conscience mind, and honest heart, Slum beautiful is the Pangaea of life before the evolution of such disheartening events, and then some. It is an internal reflection of yours and mine. Find your beauty, before the wrong hands do. Without further do, Kenny Attaway presents Slum Beautiful: the soliloquy of the kandy lady.

Book Aristotle Semantics and Ontology

Download or read book Aristotle Semantics and Ontology written by L.M. de Rijk and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 770 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study intends to show that the ascription of many shortcomings or obscurities to Aristotle is due to the persistent misinterpetation of key notions in his works, including anachronistic perceptions of statement making. In the first volume Aristotle's semantics is culled from the Organon. The second volume presents Aristotle's ontology of the sublunar world, and pays special attention to his strategy of argument in light of his semantic views. The reconstruction of the semantic models that come forward as genuinely Aristotelian can give a new impetus to the study of Aristotelian philosophic and semantic thought.

Book Seventy Weeks Prophecy How the Bible Foretold the Year Jesus As and Muhammad Saw Will Come on Earth

Download or read book Seventy Weeks Prophecy How the Bible Foretold the Year Jesus As and Muhammad Saw Will Come on Earth written by Pedro C. Arceno Jr and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2020-09-10 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume One of this book will discuss about the true gospel of Jesus(as) which is about the imminent coming of the Son of Man and the establishment of the universal Kingdom of God on earth. We will emphasize the fact that the entire ministry of Jesus(as) is all about the good news of the imminent fulfillment of the “Son of Man Prophecy” and the “Kingdom of God Prophecy” of Prophet Daniel(as) as written in the Bible. Based on the correct context and interpretation, the Son of Man mentioned by Jesus(as) refers to Prophet Muhammad(saw) and the Kingdom of God refers to Islam. Volume Two will discuss about the fulfillment of the 70 Weeks Prophecy of Prophet Daniel(as). That this prophecy is actually a countdown to know the year Jesus(as) and Muhammad(saw) will come on earth. Jesus(as) is expected to arrive in the 69th Week of the countdown, and Prophet Muhammad(saw) will arrive in the 70th Week of the countdown. Its exact fulfillment in history (such as the year of their birth, the starting year of their ministry and the year their respective messianic mission will be accomplished) is a miracle or sign from Allah swt (Qur’an 20:133) and a clear evidence (Qur’an 61:6) attesting the veracity of the prophethood of both Jesus(as) and Muhammad(saw). This will explain to us why there are Jews who knew what time or year Jesus(as) will arrive on earth; and why there were Jews in Yathrib Arabia who knew what time or year Muhammad(saw) will emerge as Messenger of God.
