Download or read book Our Daily Manna written by Bishop Chris Kwakpovwe and published by . This book was released on 2017-03-12 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: March 2017 Day 2DODGE THE PROCESS! MISS THE PRODUCT!BASIC SCRIPTURE:HABAKKUK 2: 1- 4Patience is profitable. It's a lost virtue in our culture today. There is so much craze for wealth because people are no more patient. Armed robbery, prostitution or corruption, etc, for example, are the consequences of impatience. The year 2017 is still young! Prayers are being prayed. Planning is going on. There is excitement in the spirit world because the word "EVIDENCE" is being announced worldwide over divine megaphones. But you must realize that there is always a time lag between the day you plant pineapple or apple seed and when you actually harvest the fruit from the full-grown tree. Every divine purpose delivers in stages and there is a time for every purpose on this earth including your own. Don't cage or hinder your destiny by seeking for shortcuts. If you dodge the process - patience, you will miss the product. Habakkuk 2:3 declares: "for the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end, it shall speak and not lie. Though it tarry (as the year progresses), wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry." God is bigger than our biggest plans. He is working on your behalf. You need patience to obtain this year. Don't compare yourself with others or look around negatively. God's calendar for you is not the same with your next-door neighbour. Patience mixed with praise and worship will shield you from avoidable mistakes. Meditate also, on Micah 7:7! Your year will end in peace and glory and there shall be EVIDENCE that you serve a living God. The fullness of any vision speaks only at the end. Wait! You will never end up in shame! Amen! PRAYER POINTS: Take Song 2: Standing on the ...1. In your own words, pray about today's word as led.2. Make a commitment on your knees that you will not panic or hurry or dwell in self - comparison with others.3. Use the Gems For Success page before bedtime today
Download or read book Morning and Evening Meditations from the Word of God written by Michael J. Akers and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-03-18 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many devotional books available containing brief, daily inspirations that benefit all who read them. This book is different in two respects. The first is obvious: it contains two readings per day—732 in all. The second, more important difference is that the author wanted to do more than offer inspiration; this would make this book no different than so many others. The messages in the book are study sketches in that the content is not only inspirational, but also educational, challenging, and encouraging. Most of these writings were based on author Michael J. Akers’s teaching of adult Bible studies for more than thirty years and learning what really brought adults to want to deepen their knowledge and application of the Word of God.
Download or read book A Hunger for God written by John Piper and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2013-04-23 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is an appetite for God. And it can be awakened. I invite you to turn from the dulling effects of food and the dangers of idolatry, and to say with some simple fast: "This much, O God, I want you." Our appetites dictate the direction of our lives - whether it be the cravings of our stomachs, the passionate desire for possessions or power, or the longings of our spirits for God. But for the Christian, the hunger for anything besides God can be an arch-enemy. While our hunger for God - and Him alone - is the only thing that will bring victory. Do you have that hunger for Him? As John Piper puts it: "If we don't feel strong desires for the manifestation of the glory of God, it is not because you have drunk deeply and are satisfied. It is because we have nibbled so long at the table of the world. Our soul is stuffed with small things, and there is no room for the great." If we are full of what the world offers, then perhaps a fast might express, or even increase, our soul's appetite for God. Between the dangers of self-denial and self-indulgence is this path of pleasant pain called fasting. It is the path John Piper invites you to travel in this book. For when God is the supreme hunger of your heart, He will be supreme in everything. And when you are most satisfied in Him, He will be most glorified in you.

Download or read book Forty Days Plus Three written by John McIlhon and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these reflections on the readings for Lent and the Triduum, Monsignor McIlhon invites us to ponder the consistency between what we believe about human dignity and how we live that dignity. If Lent becomes a daily journey whereby we consent to become one with the visible features of Christ's risen life, waiting to be raised from the dyings of our life, then the paschal mystery becomes a marvelous experience. Although he writes with great sensitivity and theological depth, Monsignor McIlhon does not become pedantic nor does he go beyond the depth of the average reader. For priests, religious, and serious lay people looking for something more than pious writing about the most important season of the Church year, this book will make excellent Lenten reading.
Download or read book Aquinas s Eschatological Ethics and the Virtue of Temperance written by Matthew Levering and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matthew Levering offers a biblical and Thomistic portrait of the cardinal virtue of temperance and its allied virtues, in dialogue with an ecumenical range of theologians and scholars. In Aquinas’s Eschatological Ethics and the Virtue of Temperance, Levering argues that Catholic ethics make sense only in light of the biblical worldview that Jesus has inaugurated the kingdom of God by pouring out his spirit. Jesus has made it possible for us to know and obey God’s law for human flourishing as individuals and communities. He has reoriented our lives toward the goal of beatific communion with him in charity, which affects the exercise of the moral virtues that pertain to human flourishing. Without the context of the inaugurated kingdom, Catholic ethics as traditionally conceived will seem like an effort to find a middle ground between legalistic rigorism and relativistic laxism, which is especially the case with the virtue of temperance, the focus of Levering’s book. After an opening chapter on the eschatological/biblical character of Catholic ethics, the ensuing chapters engage Aquinas’s theology of temperance in the Summa theologiae, which identifies and examines a number of virtues associated with temperance. Levering demonstrates that the theology of temperance is profoundly biblical, and that Aquinas’s theology of temperance relies for its intelligibility upon Christ’s inauguration of the kingdom of God as the graced fulfillment of our created nature. The book develops new vistas for scholars and students interested in moral theology.
Download or read book The Quest for the Fictional Jesus written by Margaret E Ramey and published by Lutterworth Press. This book was released on 2017-03-31 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For almost two millennia, Jesus' story has been retold in various forms and fashions but in the last century a new way of reimagining the man from Galilee has sprung up in the form of novels about the life ofJesus. While the novels themselves are asvaried as their authors, this work aims to introduce readers to some common literary strategies and theological agendas found in this phenomenon by surveying a few prominent examples. It also explores the question of what happens when we examine theintertextual play between these reimaginings and their Gospel progenitors as we allow these contemporary novels to pose new questions to their ancient counterparts. An intriguing hermeneutical circle ensues as we embark on our quest for the fictional Jesus and accompany his incarnations as they lead us back to re-examine the canonical portraits of Jesus anew.

This book was released on 2024-06-07 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi founded the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) in Rome seventy years ago, they approached children’s catechesis with a focus on Scripture and liturgy, and solidly based their approach on the Montessori principles of education. CGS is a gift and legacy that Sofia and Gianna have bestowed on generations of adults and children around the world who have fallen in love with Jesus, the Good Shepherd. In recognition of seventy years of CGS and of forty years as a national association, CGSUSA has compiled the commemorative journal The Gift of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. The heart of this journal comprises a collection of previously unpublished excerpts from Sofia’s personal correspondence with translator Patricia Coulter, covering various reflections on life and on the nature of the Good Shepherd Catechesis itself. Also included are Coulter’s observations of Gianna's work with children in Rome. CGS members and catechists will appreciate Sofia and Gianna’s long and deep experience of living the Catechesis joyfully and fruitfully with adults and children alike.
