Book excerpt: Designed to be read one day – and page – at a time, this book from four inclusive learning experts offers 365 strategies for implementing technology to design inclusive experiences. Educators across the world are working to design individualized instruction that empowers every student to become experts at learning. Technology and instructional interventions designed to support students with disabilities often eventually become mainstream and used by the masses. These practices provide a pathway for designing inclusive, equitable and accessible educational experiences that meet the needs of every individual learner. This engaging book includes daily strategies accompanied by examples of tools that can be implemented immediately to design meaningful instruction. Topics covered include role-playing games for social-emotional learning, building literacy through captioned video, coding to teach early literacy, text-to-speech for math and reading, and much more! Each daily strategy includes: • Explanation of how to use the strategy to design inclusive educational experiences. • Examples of tools that can be used to implement the strategy. • Alternative ways to use the strategy to extend student learning. • Images illustrating the strategy or tool. • Identification of relevant ISTE Standards for Educators and ISTE Standards for Students. Related resources. The heart of the book is the shift in mindset that occurs by exploring a different practical, inclusive strategy each day and infusing these strategies into everyday practice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 11th International Symposium on Graph Drawing (GD 2003) was held on September 21–24, 2003, at the Universit` a degli Studi di Perugia, Perugia, Italy. GD 2003 attracted 93 participants from academic and industrial institutions in 17 countries. In response to the call for papers, the program committee received 88 re- larsubmissionsdescribingoriginalresearchand/orsystemdemonstrations.Each submission was reviewed by at least 4 program committee members and c- ments were returned to the authors. Following extensive e-mail discussions, the program committee accepted 34 long papers (12 pages each in the proceedings) and 11 short papers (6 pages each in the proceedings). Also, 6 posters (2 pages each in the proceedings) were displayed in the conference poster gallery. In addition to the 88 submissions, the program committee also received a submission of special type, one that was not competing with the others for a time slot in the conference program and that collects selected open problems in graph drawing. The paper presents 42 challenging open problems in di?erentareasofgraphdrawingandcontainsmorethan120references.Although the length of the paper makes it closer to a journal version than to a conference extended abstract, we decided to include it in the conference proceedings so that it could easily reach in a short time the vast majority of the graph drawing community.

Book Visualizing Quaternions

Download or read book Visualizing Quaternions written by Andrew J. Hanson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-02-06 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduced 160 years ago as an attempt to generalize complex numbers to higher dimensions, quaternions are now recognized as one of the most important concepts in modern computer graphics. They offer a powerful way to represent rotations and compared to rotation matrices they use less memory, compose faster, and are naturally suited for efficient interpolation of rotations. Despite this, many practitioners have avoided quaternions because of the mathematics used to understand them, hoping that some day a more intuitive description will be available. The wait is over. Andrew Hanson's new book is a fresh perspective on quaternions. The first part of the book focuses on visualizing quaternions to provide the intuition necessary to use them, and includes many illustrative examples to motivate why they are important—a beautiful introduction to those wanting to explore quaternions unencumbered by their mathematical aspects. The second part covers the all-important advanced applications, including quaternion curves, surfaces, and volumes. Finally, for those wanting the full story of the mathematics behind quaternions, there is a gentle introduction to their four-dimensional nature and to Clifford Algebras, the all-encompassing framework for vectors and quaternions. - Richly illustrated introduction for the developer, scientist, engineer, or student in computer graphics, visualization, or entertainment computing. - Covers both non-mathematical and mathematical approaches to quaternions.

Book Handbook of Graph Drawing and Visualization

Download or read book Handbook of Graph Drawing and Visualization written by Roberto Tamassia and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-08-19 with total page 869 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Get an In-Depth Understanding of Graph Drawing Techniques, Algorithms, Software, and Applications The Handbook of Graph Drawing and Visualization provides a broad, up-to-date survey of the field of graph drawing. It covers topological and geometric foundations, algorithms, software systems, and visualization applications in business, education, science, and engineering. Each chapter is self-contained and includes extensive references. The first several chapters of the book deal with fundamental topological and geometric concepts and techniques used in graph drawing, such as planarity testing and embedding, crossings and planarization, symmetric drawings, and proximity drawings. The following chapters present a large collection of algorithms for constructing drawings of graphs, including tree, planar straight-line, planar orthogonal and polyline, spine and radial, circular, rectangular, hierarchical, and three-dimensional drawings as well as labeling algorithms, simultaneous embeddings, and force-directed methods. The book then introduces the GraphML language for representing graphs and their drawings and describes three software systems for constructing drawings of graphs: OGDF, GDToolkit, and PIGALE. The final chapters illustrate the use of graph drawing methods in visualization applications for biological networks, computer security, data analytics, education, computer networks, and social networks. Edited by a pioneer in graph drawing and with contributions from leaders in the graph drawing research community, this handbook shows how graph drawing and visualization can be applied in the physical, life, and social sciences. Whether you are a mathematics researcher, IT practitioner, or software developer, the book will help you understand graph drawing methods and graph visualization systems, use graph drawing techniques in your research, and incorporate graph drawing solutions in your products.
