Book Pretreatment in Chemical Water and Wastewater Treatment

Download or read book Pretreatment in Chemical Water and Wastewater Treatment written by Hermann H. Hahn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Gothenburg Symposia on Chemical Treatment have proven to be a unique platform for the exchange of ideas between theory and practice. They bring together administrators, engineers and scientists, who are concerned with water purification and wastewater treatment through precipitation, coagulation and subsequent solid/liquid separation. This volume contains the proceedings of the 3rd Symposium, focussing on Pretreatment. Pretreatment is understood as the scene total of all measures taken at the pollutant source to protect water supply, the sewerage system, the central treatment plant, and the aqueous environment. It is, where applicable, the most efficient measure in ecological and economic respects. The contributions of this third volume address questions of surveillance, automation and remote control of installations as well as the principles of legal, administrative and economic measures for regulations within the context of pretreatment. Special attention is given to the possibilities and limits of pretreatment of industrial discharges. Again it is the editors'privilege to acknowledge the invaluable help from the authors of this book. It is the editors' hope that they might convey the significance and potential of pretreatment in water supply, in industrial waste management and in municipal wastewater treatment and sludge handling.

Book Bridging Occupational Organizational and Public Health

Download or read book Bridging Occupational Organizational and Public Health written by Georg F. Bauer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In our complex, fast changing society, health is strongly influenced by the continuously changing interactions between organisations and their employees. Three major fields contribute to health-oriented improvements of these interactions: occupational health, organizational health and public health. As currently only partial links exist amongst these fields, the book aims to explore potential synergies more systematically. Considering the high mental and social demands in a service and knowledge sector economy, the first part of the book focuses on work-related psychosocial factors. As a large proportion of inequalities in health in developed countries can be explained by inequalities in working conditions, those psychosocial factors with a particularly high public health impact are highlighted. As addressing these psychosocial factors requires to involve the organization as the key change agent, the second part covers approaches to improve public health through organizational level health interventions. The last section takes a look into the future of occupational, organizational and public health: what are the future challenges regarding occupational health and how can they be tackled within and beyond the organizational level. Overall, this integrating book will help to broaden the evidence-base, legitimacy and efficacy of occupational- and organizational-level health interventions and thus increase their public health impact.

Book Stigmatization Discrimination and Illness

Download or read book Stigmatization Discrimination and Illness written by Bohle, Leah Franziska and published by Universitätsverlag Göttingen. This book was released on 2013-12-04 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “She was given her own plate, her own cup, everything of her own, even when she just touched a cloth then nobody wanted to touch it again.” (Halima, HIV-seropositive) The book sheds light on the profound influence of an HIV-seropositive diagnosis on the lives of women and their social environment in the United Republic of Tanzania. The author, a medical doctor and social anthropologist, tells the story of six Tanzanian HIV-seropositive women, focusing on their negotiation and perception of illness and disease. Furthermore, the high levels of discrimination and stigmatization in the context of HIV-seropositivity that they experience are presented in detail, weaving together the impacts of an HIV-seropositive diagnosis with results analyzed both from a Medical Anthropology and Public Health perspective. Despite a new era of antiretroviral treatment, available in Tanzania free of cost, that has given cause for hope in a change in how the disease is perceived, the book impressively underlines that being HIV-seropositive remains a great challenge and heavy burden for women in Tanzania.
