  • Pages : 145 pages

Download or read book Meditations on the Christ written by Romano Guardini and published by Sophia Institute Press. This book was released on 2014-09-23 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These pages don’t tell you what Jesus did — you know that already! Instead, they take you into the mind and heart of the Son of God in a way you may not have thought possible. You’ll come to understand the inner logic of Jesus’ ministry: why Jesus’ life had to take the course it took, why He couldn’t have been the earthly king many were expecting, and why He couldn’t have conformed to the conventional ideas of a warrior, a hero, or even just a successful man. You’ll even see why He had to be abandoned by everyone — including His disciples — yet His Father remained close to Him then, just as He remains close to you now. Your new insight into why Jesus chose His own particular paths will illuminate the paths He is choosing for your now — and will help you stay on those paths with gratitude and joy. Let your newfound knowledge of Jesus blossom into joy as — directed by these pages — you open yourself to the One whose whole being will resound in your heart and will nourish your soul.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Advent reflections by the abbess of a Poor Clare monastery and accomplished spiritual writer focus our attention on the coming of Jesus into our lives. There is a double movement to this coming: our active preparation to be ready for him, on one hand, and our patient waiting for the Lord to arrive in his own good time, on the other. There is an art to this simultaneous preparing and waiting, and who knows better than the late and beloved Mother Mary Francis how to encourage us in our attempts to master this art. The joyful yet challenging teaching that we have come to expect from Mother Mary Francis is on display in these Advent conferences written for her spiritual daughters at the Poor Clare Monastery of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Meditating on passages from Scripture about the coming of the Messiah into both our world and our hearts, Mother challenges us to persevere in overcoming our faults, while keeping our eyes on the Lord who has called us to himself, for it is he who, through the gifts of his grace, will complete in us the work of sanctification which he has begun. Although written for Advent, the wisdom of Mother Mary Francis collected by her sisters for this volume is profitable at any time, because a Christian life is one of constant growth into the very likeness of God.

  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 238 pages

Download or read book Sharing the Light written by Luke A Veronis and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "One of the most effective ways to heal people and draw them close to God is through teaching and preaching." -Saint John Chrysostom The ultimate goal of a sermon, as well as any teaching in the Church, is not simply to increase our knowledge of the faith but to inspire and motivate change in our lives. This is what St John Chrysostom meant when he talks about the most effective way of healing people. The purpose is to help people encounter the living God so that they invite His Spirit into their lives to guide and direct them, to inspire and empower them, to comfort and heal them, to lead them to repentance and change, and to recreate each person more and more into the likeness of God. Here lies my hope for this book. We live in a day and age where our lives are filled with busyness and superficial nonsense. We need to remember the advice of the Psalmist to "Be still and know that I am God." In silence and stillness we encounter God. In dedicating time to dwell in His Presence we nourish our souls. We need to consciously choose to take time each day to fill our minds with spiritually uplifting words which enrich our hearts. My prayer is that you will find such words in this book that will bless your heart and nourish your soul. About the Author Fr. Luke A. Veronis has served as a Greek Orthodox priest for 26 years. For the past 16 years he has been pastoring Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Webster, MA. Simultaneously he directs the Missions Institute of Orthodoxy Christianity at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, where he teaches as an adjunct instructor at both Holy Cross and Hellenic College. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Orthodox Christian Mission Center. Fr. Luke has been involved in the Orthodox Church's missionary movement since 1987. Book Meditations on the Parables of Jesus

Download or read book Meditations on the Parables of Jesus written by Thomas Keating and published by Crossroad Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revising much of the content originally published in The Kingdom of God Is Like, and adding selected material from Awakenings and Reawakenings, Thomas Keating continues to stir the Christian imagination with insightful commentary on the parables of the Bible. Including the Mustard Seed, the Narrow Door, the Penitent Woman, the Sower, the Prodigal Son, and others, this collection of corresponding meditations renews the voice and vigor of each parable's deeper meaning--so often overlooked through familiarity and fame. Originally told to seekers in an ancient land, each parable--packed with clues about the meaning of life, the nature of God, and the purpose of creation--has as much relevance and resonance as ever for both teaching the lessons of God and his mercy and for understanding the daily struggles of today's fast-paced world.
