Download or read book Smart Fat written by Steven Masley and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2016-01-19 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The innovative guide that reveals how eating more fat—the smart kind—is the key to health, longevity, and permanent weight loss. For years experts have told us that eating fat is bad. But by banning fat from our diets, we’ve deprived ourselves of considerable health benefits—and have actually sabotaged our own efforts to lose weight. Though they originally came from vastly different schools of thought about diet and weight loss, renowned nutritionist Jonny Bowden and well-respected physician Steven Masley independently came to the same conclusion about why so many people continually fail to shed pounds and get healthy. It all comes back to a distinction far more important than calories vs. carbs or paleo vs. plant-based: smart fat vs. dumb fat. In Smart Fat, they explain the amazing properties of healthy fat, including its ability to balance hormones for increased energy and appetite control, and its incredible anti-inflammatory benefits. The solution for slimming down—and keeping the pounds off for life—is to “smart-fat” your meals, incorporating smart fats with fiber, protein, and most importantly, flavor. Bowden and Masley identify smart fats, explain what not to eat, and provide a thirty-day meal plan and fifty recipes based on the magic formula of fat, fiber, protein, and flavor. It’s time to unlearn what we think we know about food. Getting smart about fat—and everything you eat—and learning to smart-fat your meals is the only solution you'll ever need.

Book The Better Brain Solution

Download or read book The Better Brain Solution written by Steven Masley and published by Knopf. This book was released on 2018 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alzheimer's disease is the #1 most terrifying disease today. Despite billions of dollars of research, there are no significant cures for dementia or Alzheimer's (the most common form of memory loss), which accounts for up to 70 percent of all dementia. Almost six million Americans have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's; with an annual cost of dementia care and research in the United States of $215 billion, more than is spent on cancer or heart disease. In The Better Brain Solution, Dr. Steven Masley writes of the two urgent epidemics we are facing now--escalating rates of disabling memory loss and rapidly increasing rates of diabetes and pre-diabetes--and yet both conditions are largely preventable. Most people today understand the effect that elevated blood sugar has on their cardiovascular health, but few understand that insulin resistance is significantly damaging to the brain. In the The Better Brain Solution, Masley offers a program that, in the fight against diabetes, memory loss, and cognitive decline, can reverse insulin resistance, enhance cognitive performance, and stop cognitive decline before it is too late. Masley gives the reader the tools he has developed for his own private patients to prevent and reverse this metabolic syndrome and to achieve normal blood sugar levels (below 95 mg/dL). He explores the impact of insulin resistance on the brain and the heart/brain/diabetes connection, explaining how cognitive function and memory work and he discusses the risk factors for memory loss. The Better Brain Solution offers the reader a comprehensive plan for achieving optimal brain health, providing information on brain-boosting foods and supplements as well as providing a practical way to assess cognitive function. With 50 recipes for foods that improve brain and body and that are easy to prepare.

Book Healthy at Last

Download or read book Healthy at Last written by Eric Adams and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York mayor Eric Adams is on a mission to tackle one of the most stubborn health problems in the country: chronic disease in the African American community. African Americans are heavier and sicker than any other group in the U.S., with nearly half of all Black adults suffering from some form of cardiovascular disease. After Adams woke up with severe vision loss one day in 2016, he learned that he was one of the nearly 5 million Black people living with diabetes-and, according to his doctor, he would have it for the rest of his life. A police officer for more than two decades, Adams was a connoisseur of the fast-food dollar menu. Like so many Americans with stressful jobs, the last thing he wanted to think about was eating healthfully. Fast food was easy, cheap, and comfortable. His diet followed him from the squad car to the state senate, and then to Brooklyn Borough Hall, where it finally caught up with him. But Adams was not ready to become a statistic. There was a better option besides medication and shots of insulin: food. Within three months of adopting a plant-based diet, he lost 35 pounds, lowered his cholesterol by 30 points, restored his vision, and reversed his diabetes. Now he is on a mission to revolutionize the health of not just the borough of Brooklyn, but of African Americans across the country. Armed with the hard science and real-life stories of those who have transformed their bodies by changing their diet, Adams shares the key steps for a healthy, active life. With this book, he shows readers how to avoid processed foods, cut down on salt, get more fiber, and substitute beef, chicken, pork, and dairy with delicious plant-based alternatives. In the process he explores the origins of soul food-a cuisine deeply important to the Black community, but also one rooted in the horrors of slavery-and how it can be reimagined with healthy alternatives. Features more than 50 recipes from celebrities and health experts, including Paul McCartney, Queen Afua, Jenné Claiborne, Bryant Jennings, Charity Morgan, Moby, and more! The journey to good health begins in the kitchen-not the hospital bed!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I want to thank you and congratulate you for downloading the book, "30 Days to a Younger Heart." The health of your heart should be one of the biggest things that you concern your life with. When your heart is not working the way that you would like, you might find that you are miserable and not able to get as much done as you used to. But when the heart is working properly, you will have a healthy and active life for a long time to come. This guidebook is going to spend some time discussing the steps that you need to take in order to keep your heart working healthy for a long time to come. Chapter 1 will spend some time talking about what heart disease is. It talks about some of the symptoms, causes, and risk factors that you should look out for when heart disease is a concern in your life. There are many different kinds of heart disease and this is often used as an umbrella term for all of them, but it is still important that you get it taken care of as soon as possible. Chapter 2 then talks about one of the first things you should do in order to help keep your heart health, whether you are trying to avoid problems in the future or you already have heart disease. This chapter talks about some of the ways that you can eat properly in order to give your heart all of the healthy nutrients it needs without having to worry about giving it the bad things like bad fats, cholesterol, and too much sodium. Chapter 3 then goes on to talk about how exercise is important for the heart. You can choose almost any exercise that you would like, just make sure that you are getting up and moving and causing the heart to work a little bit. This is important because if you are sitting on the couch and not doing anything all day, it becomes difficult to keep the heart in tip top shape. You can begin an exercise program at any time, just make sure to make it a routine so you get the best benefits out of it all. Chapter 4 then goes on to talk about some of the medications and alternative therapies that you can consider in order to help with the heart disease. In some cases, eating a good diet and exercising a lot is going to not be enough to keep your heart healthy and you might need to rely on a few other treatments to help. This chapter will look at these different options, but make sure that you discuss them with your doctor ahead of time to ensure they are going to be the right choices for you. Chapter 5 ends out this book with some of the best tips in order to keep your heart working healthy for a long time to come. It will give practical advice on diet, ways to stay motivated while you are trying to work out, and ways to reduce the amount of stress that you are feeling on a day to day basis. Use some of the tips that are presented in this chapter in order to see some amazing results in the overall health of your heart. There are so many good things that you will be able to do in order to ensure that your heart is working at its peak performance in no time. Make sure to use some of the suggestions that are found in this guidebook. The more that you can do earlier in your life the better chance you have of avoiding heart disease and all of the complications that can come from it to have a better life overall. Thanks again for downloading this book, I hope you enjoy it!
