Book Public Service Case File Packet

Download or read book Public Service Case File Packet written by Mark S. Caldwell and published by Aspen Publishing. This book was released on 2022-09-02 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Cooper v. Cooper, food and fists fly in a domestic showdown at the Yankee Doodle Restaurant, where the young Mr. and Mrs. Cooper physically and publically grapple with their shared history of alcoholism, economic hardship, and allegations of domestic violence. Issues relating to public assistance, chronic substance abuse, and protective orders figure into this “he said, she said” tale of tumultuous matrimony hitting rock bottom. Montane v. Hadden is a residential landlord-tenant case involving two sisters living in the U.S. as political refugees, who allege they got more than they bargained for upon discovering bed bugs swarming their rental apartment and wish to break their lease. Landlord Hadden disputes their claim, insisting that the bloodsuckers leeched a ride in the sisters’ baggage during an extended stay in a refugee detention facility. The two short yet complete case files in this Public Service Case File Packet allow readers to try, review, and compare the cases in less time. Cooper is designed to be presented as a bench trial, while Montane may be presented as either a bench trial or a jury trial. Both cases aim to sharpen lawyers’ and law students’ witness examination and public service trial skills, and focus on storytelling as it relates to presenting factual information to judges and juries.

Book Proceedings of the Joint 3rd International Conference on Bioinformatics and Data Science ICBDS 2022

Download or read book Proceedings of the Joint 3rd International Conference on Bioinformatics and Data Science ICBDS 2022 written by R. Somashekhar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-06-05 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access book. We are pleased to announce our 3rd International Conference on Bioinformatics and Data Science (ICBDS – 2022) and 9th International Conference on Public Mental Health and Neurosciences (ICPMN – 2022) which was a unique conference where we connectted Biological Function through Computational Genomics to the world of integrated medicine and therapeutics. Functional genomics is a field of molecular biology that attempts to describe gene (and protein) functions and interactions. This science aims to understand the complex relationship between genotype and phenotype on a global (genome-wide) scale of different biological processes. Most researchers now study genes or regions on a “genome-wide” scale (i.e. all or multiple genes/regions at the same time), with the hope of narrowing them down to a list of candidate genes or regions to analyze in more detail. There are several specific functional genomics approaches depending on what we are focused on DNA level (genomics and epigenomics), RNA level (transcriptomics), protein level (proteomics), metabolite level (metabolomics) and phenotype level (phenomics). The recent trends in gene and genome editing technologies, promising genomic information can be modulated in the areas of medicine, agriculture and environment. Big data is a promising in many research areas, but still it is computationally challenging and non-availability of experts to handle big-data with reduced speed and cost. With the increasing use of advanced technology and the exploding amount of big-data in, it is imperative to introduce effective and efficient methods to handle big data using computing technologies. The big data analytics technique is required to solve the problems in bioinformatics such as the storage of vast information generated by analyzing the big-data. Big data analytics can examine large data sets, analyze and correlate genomic and proteomic information. Big data research finds a huge application in Neuroscience and Brain research. Our unique conference connects genomics to the world of genomics to integrated medicine including yogic sciences.

Lucid, insightful, with real spiritual, political, intellectual, and emotional grasp of the whole picture. A book about why music matters, and how, and to whom." —Dave Marsh, author of Louie, Louie and Born to Run: The Bruce Springsteen Story "This book is urgently needed: a comprehensive look at the various forms of black popular music, both as music and as seen in a larger social context. No one can do this better than Craig Werner." —Henry Louis Gates, Jr., W.E.B. Du Bois Professor of the Humanities, Harvard University "[Werner has] mastered the extremely difficult art of writing about music as both an aesthetic and social force that conveys, implies, symbolizes, and represents ideas as well as emotion, but without reducing its complexities and ambiguities to merely didactic categories." —African American Review A Change Is Gonna Come is the story of more than four decades of enormously influential black music, from the hopeful, angry refrains of the Freedom movement, to the slick pop of Motown; from the disco inferno to the Million Man March; from Woodstock's "Summer of Love" to the war in Vietnam and the race riots that inspired Marvin Gaye to write "What's Going On." Originally published in 1998, A Change Is Gonna Come drew the attention of scholars and general readers alike. This new edition, featuring four new and updated chapters, will reintroduce Werner's seminal study of black music to a new generation of readers. Craig Werner is Professor of Afro-American Studies at the University of Wisconsin, and author of many books, including Playing the Changes: From Afro-Modernism to the Jazz Impulse and Up Around the Bend: An Oral History of Creedence Clearwater Revival. His most recent book is Higher Ground: Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Curtis Mayfield, and the Rise and Fall of American Soul.

Book James Fenimore Cooper The Leatherstocking Tales Vol 1 LOA 26

Download or read book James Fenimore Cooper The Leatherstocking Tales Vol 1 LOA 26 written by James Fenimore Cooper and published by Library of America. This book was released on 1985-07-01 with total page 1388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The five novels in The Leatherstocking Tales (collected in two Library of America volumes), Cooper's great saga of the American wilderness, form a pageant of the American frontier. Cooper's hero, Natty Bumppo, is forced ever farther into the heart of the continent by the advance of civilization that he inadvertently serves as advance scout, missionary, and critic. Leatherstocking first appears in The Pioneers (1823), as an aged hunter living on the fringe of settlement near Templeton (Cooperstown), New York, at the end of the eighteenth century. There he becomes caught in the struggles of party, family, and class to control the changing American land and to determine what sort of civilization will replace the rapidly vanishing wilderness. When Natty Bumppo started an American tradition by setting off into the sunset at the novel's close, one early reader said, "I longed to go with him." The Last of the Mohicans (1826) is a pure unabashed narrative of adventure. It looks back to the earlier time of the French and Indian Wars, when Natty and his two companions, Chingachgook and Uncas, survivors of a once-proud Indian nation, attempt a daring rescue and seek to forestall the plan of the French to unleash their Mingo allies on a wave of terror through the English settlements. The Prairie (1827) takes up Natty in his eighties, driven by the continuous march of civilization to his last refuge on the Great Plains across the Mississippi. On this vast and barren stage, the Sioux and Pawnee, the outlaw clan of Ishmael Bush, and members of the Lewis and Clark expedition enact a romantic drama of intrigue, pursuit, and biblical justice that reflects Cooper's historical dialectic of culture and nature, of the American nation and the American continent. LIBRARY OF AMERICA is an independent nonprofit cultural organization founded in 1979 to preserve our nation’s literary heritage by publishing, and keeping permanently in print, America’s best and most significant writing. The Library of America series includes more than 300 volumes to date, authoritative editions that average 1,000 pages in length, feature cloth covers, sewn bindings, and ribbon markers, and are printed on premium acid-free paper that will last for centuries.

Book excerpt: Bread and Roses is an Australian first, a collection of stories from academics who identify as coming from working-class backgrounds. At once inspiring and challenging, the collection demonstrates how individual narratives are both personal and structural, in that they illustrate the ways in which social forces shape individual lives. Central themes in the book are generational changes in university education provision in Australia, the complexities of coming from a working class background and being female, or coming from a working class background and being female and a recent migrant, and the particular challenges facing students and staff from rural and regional areas. An essential read for anyone interested in widening participation programs in higher education, including administrators, academics, past and present students, Bread and Roses is both a map for those who want to undertake a similar journey and a community for those who want to join.

Book Twilight War

  • Author : Mike Moore
  • Publisher : Independent Institute
  • Release : 2015-09-21
  • ISBN : 1598132652
  • Pages : 542 pages

Download or read book Twilight War written by Mike Moore and published by Independent Institute. This book was released on 2015-09-21 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considering the historical background of space militarization and providing an overview of the United States' efforts to militarily dominate space since the dawn of the space age, this book argues that America must either ensure that space-related weapons are verifiably banned for all nations through an international treaty or definitively choose a policy of unilateral space dominance that may lead to an arms race in space and possibly to another cold war. Through a careful discussion of the history of space programs, their impact on past policies and events, the tactical and strategic influence of space weapons on the engagement of war, and the potential pitfalls of a dominance strategy, this book concludes that unilateral military dominance of space by the United States would be a supreme mistake and that it would make Americans less secure.
