Book Essays on Contemporary Psychometrics

Download or read book Essays on Contemporary Psychometrics written by L. Andries van der Ark and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-17 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book 'Essays on Contemporary Psychometrics' provides an overview of contemporary psychometrics, the science devoted to the advancement of quantitative measurement practices in psychology, education and the social sciences. The volume consists of four parts, each having several chapters on cutting-edge work in the field. Part I, General Perspectives on Psychometrics, includes expert views on topics such as psychological models vs. measurement models, using tests in decision making, artificial intelligence, and psychometric network models. Part II, Factor Analysis and Classical Test Theory, the type of psychometrics that is still used most often in the social and behavioral sciences, includes state-of-the-art contributions on test-score reliability, change-score reliability, handling missing data in principal component analysis, test equating, and conditional standard errors of measurement. Part III, Item Response Theory, the leading form of psychometrics in modern educational measurement, includes discussions of sampling from many conditional distributions, transparent score reporting, nonparametric item response theory, and targeted testing. Part IV, New Psychometrics, discusses recently developed ideas beyond classical test theory and item response theory, including topics related to computer adaptive testing, response-time modelling, validity indices, diagnostic classification models, and the sparse latent class model for ordinal measurements. Together, these four parts provide an overview of the current state-of-the-art in psychometrics in educational measurement. They are a valuable source of information for graduate students who (intend to) study psychometrics and need an overview of the field, and for researchers interested in the current developments in the field. Book A Day in the Life of a Happy Worker

Download or read book A Day in the Life of a Happy Worker written by Arnold B. Bakker and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection brings together some of the leading researchers in the study of the daily experience of work and daily well-being. The book covers both theoretical and methodological issues involved in studying workers' well-being as it evolves on a daily basis. Interest in the topic of daily fluctuations in worker well-being has grown rapidly over the past ten years. This is partly because of advances in research and statistical methods, but also because researchers have found that the psychological processes that influence well-being play out from moment to moment, and from day to day. Topics covered in this book include: The theoretical basis of studying work as a series of daily episodes Assessment of different components of daily well-being Factors involved in the regulation of well-being at work Qualitative and quantitative diary experience sampling and event reconstruction methods Latent growth curve modelling of diary data The final chapter of the book includes a preview of how daily methods may evolve in the future. Intended as a guide for researchers with good knowledge of field research methods, the book will be particularly useful to researchers of work-related phenomena who seek to expand their knowledge of dynamic methods in field contexts, and those who want to start using these methods. It will also be of interest to students of work psychology and organisational behaviour, and related disciplines.

Book Only You Can Be You

  • Author : Erik Rees
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2009-07-07
  • ISBN : 9781439168356
  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book Only You Can Be You written by Erik Rees and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-07-07 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the psychological tenet that it takes twenty-one days for a new behavior to become a habit, Erik Rees presents twenty-one daily principles for reminding readers of their individual importance. “Make your life count.” These four simple words spoken at the funeral of a four-month-old child haunted the author, hitting him like a ton of bricks and causing him to wonder if he was making his own life count. Contemplating what kind of legacy he would leave, he wondered if there was anything about the present course his life was taking that would make a difference to anyone in the years to come. Furthermore, it hit him that these are the same thoughts most men and women ponder. This challenged him to write this book focusing on principles that would help people’s lives make an impact. By the time many people reach adulthood, they carry so much baggage that the weight of it distracts them from maximizing life and leaves them feeling insignificant for not doing much beyond surviving. The book suggests that there are three great choices that affect every aspect of our lives. These “life choices” relate to who we surrender our life to, how we steward our unique gifts, and the choices we make to help others. Learning to make the best choices in these three areas will influence every aspect of life, and will resolve the “why am I here” questions. Only You Can Be You does not offer simplistic choices, which are quickly dismissed because they do not deal with reality, but instead it shows that sometimes life’s decisions require deep courage and strength. The book strongly affirms that you can make the right choices and that when you do, you will ultimately find significance. The message of the author is that by making the best possible life choices, readers will not only find genuine happiness and purpose, but they will also leave a legacy that really makes a difference.

Book Culture and Well Being

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ed Diener
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2009-06-04
  • ISBN : 9048123526
  • Pages : 298 pages

Download or read book Culture and Well Being written by Ed Diener and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-04 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: material boundaries capture cultural effects? The articles contained in this volume offer initial answers to most of these questions. The culture and well-being questions are of fundamental importance to understanding in the entire eld and to scienti c knowledge in the behavioral s- ences as a whole. Unless we understand what is universal and what is speci c, we cannot hope to understand the processes governing well-being. Unfortunately, our scienti c knowledge in most behavioral science elds, including the study of we- being, has been built on a narrow database drawn from westernized, industrialized nations. This means that we have only a little knowledge of whether our ndings are generalizable to all peoples of the globe and to universal human psychol- ical processes. Fortunately, during the last decade my students and I, as well as others working in this area, have rapidly expanded our knowledge of well-being vis-a-vis ` culture. The rst attempt to summarize the ndings in this area came in 1999 with Culture and Subjective Well-Being, a book edited by Eunkook Suh and Diener. The current volume represents a renewed effort to give a broad overview of major ndings in this area and to point to the important directions for future research. Composition of This Volume I am very pleased with the articles presented in this volume because I believe that they represent true advances in our fundamental understanding of subjective we- being.
