Book 2022 Global Religious Recognition Report

Download or read book 2022 Global Religious Recognition Report written by Cometan and published by The Religious Recognition Project. This book was released on 2022-06-14 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2022 Global Religious Recognition Report (GRRR 2022) is the world's first religious freedom report fully dedicated to the subtopic area of religious recognition and registration issues, covering the period June 2021 to June 2022. The Report uses the body of terms and concepts being developed by Cometan through his doctoral research to interpret the registration and recognition systems of all countries and territories to determine conditions for recognition of religion or belief (RoRB). Each country is examined according to the following criteria: the mandatoriness of registration, registration policy, claims made to FoRB, key restriction tools imposed via the registration system, and whether or not basic religious activities are free to be conducted without entanglement in registration procedures. Each country and territory is then assigned a label corresponding to one of the categories of the Spectrum of Religious Recognition (SRR). The aim of the Report is to exposure how widespread issues involving recognition and registration are in the world, to provide recommendations for how countries can ascend the SRR by dissolving restriction registration policies and halting certain repressive practices, and to provide a yearly monitoring report specialising in recognition and registration law to inform the discourse surrounding the correlation of these issues with conditions for freedom of religion or belief (FoRB).

Book excerpt: The Global Religious Recognition Report (GRR Report) returns for its second edition, this year including more detail on each country and territory's registration policies and on their practices of states extending privileges to some religions and beliefs and not others. Recognition and registration issues continue to impact conditions of freedom of religion or belief throughout the world and it is the purpose of the GRR Report to highlight the extent of these issues nation by nation as part of the report's country-specific approach to the subject. Detailed explanations of registration policy have been gathered from the Office of International Religious Freedom's International Religious Freedom Report in addition to other credible sources. The RoRB classification for each country and territory has been updated in accordance with the criteria set out in the Spectrum of Religious Recognition (SRR) which was included towards the front of this year's report. With more detail provided this year on registration policy in each nation, this report has revealed the complexity of registration issues and the drastic impacts they have on religious freedom.

Book International Law and Contemporary Global Challenges

Download or read book International Law and Contemporary Global Challenges written by Max Hilaire and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2024-03-18 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book simultaneously sheds light on the most pressing global challenges facing humanity in the 21st century and pays tribute to President Vaclav Havel of the Czech Republic, who had a great impact on the transformation of world politics in the 20th century. It examines in detail contemporary international issues such as climate change, mass migration, refugees, internal armed conflicts, great power rivalry, and regional political instability. It also underscores the increasing inability of the Westphalian model to solve complex transnational problems and calls for a new approach. Included as a postscript is an extensive analysis of the resurgence of dictatorial regimes in many regions of the world and their attempt to undo the rules-based international order established after World War II. This trend is a setback for those who fought tirelessly to end the Cold War and to spread freedom and democracy to millions of people across the globe. Today that legacy is being challenged by autocratic regimes that see respect for human rights as a threat to their political survival. International law is what unites us as citizens of the world; and only through international law and multilateral cooperation, can we address the global challenges examined in this book.

Book Religion and World Politics

Download or read book Religion and World Politics written by Erin K. Wilson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-23 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion and World Politics provides a short, accessible, and practical introduction to how we can understand the place of religion in world politics in a more comprehensive, contextually relevant way. Is religion central or irrelevant, positive or negative in world politics today? So much political commentary and analysis focuses on these issues. But these are the wrong questions to be asking. Designed for practitioners, policymakers, and newcomers to the topic of religion and global politics, this book emphasises that religion is not something clear, identifiable, and definable, but is fluid and shifting. Consequently, we need analytical frameworks that help us to make sense of this ever-changing phenomenon. The author presents a critical, intersectional framework for analysing religion and applies this to case studies of three core areas of international relations (IR) analysis: (1) conflict, violence, and security; (2) development and humanitarianism; and (3) human rights, law, and public life. These cases highlight how assumptions about what religion is and does affect policymakers, theorists, and activists. The book demonstrates the damage that has been done through policies and programmes based on unquestioned assumptions and the possibilities and insights to be gained by incorporating the critical study of religion into research, policymaking, and practice. This book will be of great interest to students of global politics, IR, religion, and security studies, as well as diplomats, civil servants, policymakers, journalists, and civil society practitioners. It will also benefit IR scholars interested in developing their research to include religion, as well as scholars of religion from disciplines outside IR interested in a deeper understanding of religion and world politics. Book excerpt: How can the church do better for its millions of singles? Journalist Anna Broadway traveled around the world to interview nearly 350 Christians for answers. Solo Planet draws on her 17 months of fieldwork to provide a first-of-its-kind account of the single life of Christians from nearly 50 countries. Discussing a variety of topics—loneliness, sexuality, aging, housing, cooking, celebrations, parenting, and many more, it gives us the global-church story of singleness. Because when singles thrive in a church, everyone benefits. But consider these typical barriers within most churches: Singles and marrieds often don’t know how to talk to each other. Christians continue to act as if nearly all will marry—and if you don’t, then something must be wrong with you. Churches teach that marriage and family is God’s greatest gift outside of salvation—a perspective that deserves theological challenge. Women in the church outnumber men by a factor of millions—and churches do very little to acknowledge this gap. Solo Planet calls Christians to a more faithful vision of singleness through the wisdom and stories of the global church: young and old; abled and disabled; and Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox. Through its deeply researched account, Solo Planet shows how a more biblical approach to singleness can strengthen churches and empower singles to thrive.
