Book Optimized Cloud Based Scheduling

Download or read book Optimized Cloud Based Scheduling written by Rong Kun Jason Tan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-24 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an improved design for service provisioning and allocation models that are validated through running genome sequence assembly tasks in a hybrid cloud environment. It proposes approaches for addressing scheduling and performance issues in big data analytics and showcases new algorithms for hybrid cloud scheduling. Scientific sectors such as bioinformatics, astronomy, high-energy physics, and Earth science are generating a tremendous flow of data, commonly known as big data. In the context of growing demand for big data analytics, cloud computing offers an ideal platform for processing big data tasks due to its flexible scalability and adaptability. However, there are numerous problems associated with the current service provisioning and allocation models, such as inefficient scheduling algorithms, overloaded memory overheads, excessive node delays and improper error handling of tasks, all of which need to be addressed to enhance the performance of big data analytics.

Download or read book Plastic Scintillators written by Matthieu Hamel and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-10 with total page 647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the physics and chemistry of plastic scintillators (fluorescent polymers) that are able to emit light when exposed to ionizing radiation, discussing their chemical modification in the early 1950s and 1960s, as well as the renewed upsurge in interest in the 21st century. The book presents contributions from various researchers on broad aspects of plastic scintillators, from physics, chemistry, materials science and applications, covering topics such as the chemical nature of the polymer and/or the fluorophores, modification of the photophysical properties (decay time, emission wavelength) and loading of additives to make the material more sensitive to, e.g., fast neutrons, thermal neutrons or gamma rays. It also describes the benefits of recent technological advances for plastic scintillators, such as nanomaterials and quantum dots, which allow features that were previously not achievable with regular organic molecules or organometallics.

Book Radiotheranostics A Primer for Medical Physicists I

Download or read book Radiotheranostics A Primer for Medical Physicists I written by Cari Borrás and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-02-20 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers scientific, clinical, and educational aspects of radiotheranostics in cancer control. Setting the framework, the first volume defines radiotheranostics and describes the history of radionuclide therapy and theranostics, and the biology of cancer. It examines the clinical applications of unconjugated radionuclides, such as 131I and 223Ra, and of radionuclide-conjugated cancer-specific vectors: peptides, small molecules, antibodies, and nanoparticles; introduces clinical trials and drug development; and reviews epidemiological studies and the adverse effects of radionuclide therapy – both radiation injuries and chemical toxicity. It presents the chemistry and physics of radionuclide production, discusses radioactivity measurements and traceability, and addresses important instrumentation aspects: calibration, quantitative imaging, and quality control. Volume I concludes with guidance on the education, training, and competence of a radiotheranostic multidisciplinary team and summarizes the principal physics characteristics of theranostics today – including many to be expanded in the second volume – while offering a glimpse into tomorrow. This volume provides the foundations for the more advanced second volume, which explores dosimetric and radiation safety, aiming to empower medical physicists and demonstrate to the cancer community how to improve cancer control and yield increased patient survival times. It will be a valuable reference for medical and health physicists with basic knowledge of nuclear medicine. Key Features Provides a comprehensive introduction to the topic, presenting readers with thorough treatment in a cohesive two-volume book Presents a rigorous approach while remaining accessible to students and trainees in the field Contains consistent and extensive references to allow readers to delve deeper into the subject

Book The 2011 Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident

Download or read book The 2011 Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident written by Peter George Martin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This PhD sought to determine the mechanisms for the reactor explosions by mapping, collecting and analysing samples from across the area of Japan that received radioactive fallout from the explosions. In doing this, the author conducted significant fieldwork in the restricted-access fallout zone using ground and novel UAV-based mapping of radiation to identify hot-spot areas for sample collecting but also using these tools to verify the efficacy of the clean-up operations ongoing in the prefecture. Such fieldwork was both technically pioneering for its use of UAVs (drones) but also selfless in terms of bravely entering a nuclear danger area to collect samples for the greater benefit of the scientific community.
