Book Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks

Download or read book Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks written by Elizabeth M. Belding-Royer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-10-21 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs) has attracted great research interest in recent years. A Mobile Ad Hoc Network is a self-organizing multi-hop wireless network where all hosts (often called nodes) participate in the routing and data forwarding process. The dependence on nodes to relay data packets for others makes mobile ad hoc networks extremely susceptible to various malicious and selfish behaviors. This point is largely overlooked during the early stage of MANET research. Many works simply assume nodes are inherently cooperative and benign. However, experiences from the wired world manifest that the reverse is usually true; and many works [3] [10] [9] [8] [12] [19] have pointed out that the impact of malicious and selfish users must be carefully investigated. The goal of this research is to address the cooperation problem and related security issues in wireless ad hoc networks. As a rule of thumb, it is more desirable to include security mechanisms in the design phase rather than continually patching the system for security breaches. As pointed out in [2] [1], there can be both selfish and malicious nodes in a mobile ad hoc network. Selfish nodes are most concerned about their energy consumption and intentionally drop packets to save power. The purpose of malicious nodes, on the other hand, is to attack the network using various intrusive techniques. In general, nodes in an ad hoc network can exhibit Byzantine behaviors.

Book Personal Wireless Communications

Download or read book Personal Wireless Communications written by Ignas Niemeegers and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-09-07 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The IFIP TC-6 9th International Conference on Personal Wireless Communi- tions, PWC 2004 is the main conference of the IFIP Working Group 6. 8, Mobile and Wireless Communications. The ?eld of personal wireless communications is steadily growing in imp- tance, fromanacademic, industrialandsocietalpointofview. Thedroppingcost of WLAN and short-range technologies such as Bluetooth and Zigbee is causing the proliferation of personal devices and appliances equipped with radio int- faces. Together with the gradual deployment of powerful wireless infrastructure networks, such as 3G cellular systems and WLAN hotspots, the conditions are being created for a?ordable ubiquitous communication involving virtually any artifact. This enables new application areas such as ambient intelligence where a world of devices, sensors and actuators surrounding us use wireless technology to create systems that assist us in an unobtrusive way. It also allows the - velopment of personal and personalized environments that accompany a person whereverheorshegoes. ExamplesarePersonalAreaNetworks(PAN)physically surrounding a person, and personal networks with a potentially global reach. PWC 2004 re?ects these developments, which are happening on a global scale. Researchers from all over the world, and in particular a large number from Asia, made contributions to the conference. There were 100 submissions. After a thorough reviewing process, 25 full papers and 13 short papers were retained for presentation in the technical sessions. The papers cover the whole range of wireless and mobile technologies: cellular systems, WLAN, ad hoc and sensor networks, host and network mobility, transport protocols for wireless systems, and the physical layer.

Book Wireless and Mobile Networking

Download or read book Wireless and Mobile Networking written by Zoubir Mammeri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-08-24 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research and development in wireless and mobile networks and services areas have been going on for some time, reaching the stage of products. Graceful evo- tion of networks, new access schemes, flexible protocols, increased variety of services and applications, networks reliability and availability, security, are some of the present and future challenges that have to be met. MWCN (Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks) and PWC (Personal Wireless Communications) are two conferences sponsored by IFIP WG 6.8 that provide forum for discussion between researchers, practitioners and students interested in new developments in mobile and wireless networks, services, applications and computing. In 2008, MWCN and PWC were held in Toulouse, France, from September 30 to October 2, 2008. MWNC’2008 and PWC’2008 were coupled to form the first edition of IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC’2008). MWCN and PWC topics were revisited in order to make them complementary and covering together the main hot issues in wireless and mobile networks, services, applications, computing, and technologies.

Book Wireless and Mobile Networking

Download or read book Wireless and Mobile Networking written by Jozef Wozniak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-08-31 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent spectacular achievements in wireless, mobile, and sensor networks have dramatically changed our lives in many ways. However, the rapid evolution of wireless systems not only promises increased functionality, reliability, availability, and security, as well as putting a wide variety of new services at the users’ disposal ? it also creates a number of design challenges that our research community is now facing. Scientists and engineers need to come up with, and promptly implement, novel wireless network architectures, while system operators and planners rethink their business models and attend to the growing expectations of their customer base. To provide a suitable forum for discussion between researchers, practitioners, and industry representatives interested in new developments in the respective research area, IFIP WG 6. 8 launched three separate series of conferences: MWCN (Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks), PWC (Personal Wireless Communications), and WSAN (Wireless Sensor and Actors Networks). In 2008, MWCN and PWC were merged into the IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC 2008), held in Toulouse, France, from September 30 to October 2, 2008. MWNC 2008 and PWC 2008 topics were subsequently revised with a view to covering the whole spectrum of hot issues in wireless and mobile networking. As a result, IFIP WG 6. 8 decided to add WSAN as another WMNC track.

Book Proceedings of Ninth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks

Download or read book Proceedings of Ninth International Conference on Wireless Communication and Sensor Networks written by Radhakrishna Maringanti and published by Springer Science & Business. This book was released on 2014-04-22 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless communication and sensor networks would form the backbone to create pervasive and ubiquitous environments that would have profound influence on the society and thus are important to the society. The wireless communication technologies and wireless sensor networks would encompass a wide range of domains such as HW devices such as motes, sensors and associated instrumentation, actuators, transmitters, receivers, antennas, etc., sensor network aspects such as topologies, routing algorithms, integration of heterogeneous network elements and topologies, designing RF devices and systems for energy efficiency and reliability etc. These sensor networks would provide opportunity to continuously and in a distributed manner monitor the environment and generate the necessary warnings and actions. However most of the developments have been demonstrated only in controlled and laboratory environments. So we are yet to see those powerful, ubiquitous applications for the benefit of the society. The conference and consequentially the proceedings would provide opportunity to the researchers to interact with other researchers and share their researches covering all the above areas. The proceedings of the conference thus covers the research work of different authors in the area of wireless sensor networks, wireless communications, devices, tools and techniques for WSN, and applications of wireless sensor networks. This book is beneficial for those researchers who are working in the area of wireless sensor networks, wireless communication, and developing applications of Wireless sensor networks.
