Smith explores the planning and engineering behind the incredible Great Pyramid of Giza. How would the ancient Egyptians have developed their building plans, devised work schedules, managed laborers, solved specific design and engineering problems, or even improvised on the job? The answers are here, along with dazzling, one-of-a-kind color photographs and beautiful hand-drawn illustrations of tools, materials, and building techniques the ancient masters used. In his foreword to the book, Egypt's Undersecretary of State for the Giza Monuments Zahi Hawass explains the importance of understanding the Great Pyramid as a straightforward construction project.

Book The Pyramid Texts

  • Author : Samuel Mercer
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2020-08-16
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 418 pages

Download or read book The Pyramid Texts written by Samuel Mercer and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-16 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pyramid Texts were funerary inscriptions that were written on the walls of the early Ancient Egyptian pyramids at Sakkara. These date back to the fifth and sixth dynasties, approximately the years 2350-2175 B.C.E. However, because of extensive internal evidence, it is believed that they were composed much earlier, circa 3000 B.C.E. The Pyramid Texts are, therefore, essentially the oldest sacred texts known. Samuel Mercer was the first to produce a complete English translation. This is Volume 1 of a 4 Volume set. This particular volume, apart from the Preface and Introduction, contains the actual verses of the Pyramid texts. Volumes 2-4 contained all the commentary by Mercer and others, and are very hard to come by, so I don't think they will be going up on the site anytime soon.

Download or read book The Great Pyramid of Giza written by Leon Tunney-Ware Johnson and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our book will reveal what's never been written before a blueprint packed with simple logical solutions on how the Great Pyramid of Giza was actually completed in a realistic time-frame of less than 7 years. To ensure the pyramid realised its purpose, pharaoh Khufu's final resting place. The Great pyramid of Giza, supposedly took 20 years to build. This estimated time-frame appears logical on the surface yet when the pyramid of Giza is analysed its purpose proves this time-frame impractical. The most important fact that hasn't been considered is the purpose of the Egyptian Pyramids, tombs, in which to secure the Pharaohs body and facilitate their soul's journey into the afterlife. "Pharaoh Khufu," with his beliefs and religion created a monument that stands today and is seen as one of the 7 wonders of the world. Their religious beliefs were the governing factor that created the essence that dictated the driving force and the time-frame throughout the whole project from beginning to end. You cannot imagine the consequences on the society of the time if they failed to complete the Pharaohs resting place before his death. It's illogical to accept the luxury of a 20 year time-frame or longer when you consider the fact that the average life expectancy of an ancient Egyptian was 35 years. Encompassing this factuality it's inconceivable to work with a 20 year time-frame so there had to be practical solutions that shrank this timetable dramatically. Realistically the pyramid had to be completed within a timeline between 3 to 7 years. Throughout the past 4,500 years people have marvelled at this majestic monument that the ancient Egyptians immortalised. Countless theories have been documented, a myriad of investigations undertaken to determine and establish how the pyramids were built. What were their methods? What tools did they use? How many workers were required? The analysis continues up to this present day. Yet one of the most compelling questions that takes precedence is the purpose of the pyramid and the life expectancy of the pharaoh Khufu.

Book The Secret of the Great Pyramid

Download or read book The Secret of the Great Pyramid written by Bob Brier and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A decade ago, French architect Jean-Pierre Houdin became obsessed by the centuriesold question: How was the Great Pyramid built? How, in a nation of farmers only recently emerged from the Stone Age, could such a massive, complex, and enduring structure have been envisioned and constructed? Laboring at his computer ten hours a day for five years—creating exquisitely detailed 3-D models of the Pyramid's interior—Houdin finally had his answer. It was a startling revelation that cast a fresh light on the minds that conceived one of the wonders of the ancient world. Written by world-renowned Egyptologist Bob Brier in collaboration with Houdin, The Secret of the Great Pyramid moves deftly between the ancient and the modern, chronicling two equally fascinating interrelated histories. It is a remarkable account of the step-by-step planning and assembling of the magnificent edifice—the brainchild of an innovative genius, the Egyptian architect Hemienu, who imagined, organized, and oversaw a monumental construction project that took more than two decades to complete and that employed the services of hundreds of architects, mathematicians, boatbuilders, stonemasons, and metallurgists. Here also is the riveting story of Jean-Pierre Houdin's single-minded search for solutions to the mysteries that have bedeviled Egyptologists for centuries, such as the purpose of the enigmatic Grand Gallery and the Pyramid's crack.

Book excerpt: One hundred mental patients are brutally massacred in the frigid cold of a Russian forest as they wait for a mysterious light coming down from the night sky. Their deaths are never spoken of again. More than three decades later, directors at mental hospitals in California are stunned when 100 patients—comatose for years—suddenly "wake up" and speak of a person called "The Commander" who will lead them to a place where they will be taken from Earth. One person may hold the answers—a severely mentally-ill homeless man whose knowledge of astronomy, physics and mathematics is not only more advanced than Einstein and Tesla, but can summon superhuman abilities in the blink of an eye. Taken in and protected by a small team of mental health physicians, a brilliant astrophysicist, a derelict naval officer, and a renowned Ancient Aliens theorist, this freakishly gifted person called "Doogie" warns that time is running out; that the "creators" are already on their way to Earth. They will arrive within weeks. The chosen hundred must be ready, but like 30 years ago, a new threat makes its presence menacingly clear. A xenophobic Senator with a horrific secret and the authority to launch military strikes is plotting to destroy an extraterrestrial visitation of any kind. . .even if it means the deaths of thousands, if not the utter destruction of the entire West Coast.
