This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This textbook, endorsed by the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), provides adult and paediatric nurses with a full and informative guide covering all aspects of transplant nursing, from basic principles to advanced concepts. It takes the reader on a journey through the history of transplant nursing, including essential and progressive elements to help nurses improve their knowledge and benefit the patient experience, as well as a comprehensive introduction to research and auditing methods. This new volume specifically intended for nurses, complements the ESH-EBMT reference title, a popular educational resource originally developed in 2003 for physicians to accompany an annual training course also serving as an educational tool in its own right. This title is designed to develop the knowledge of nurses in transplantation. It is the first book of its kind specifically targeted at nurses in this specialist field and acknowledges the valuable contribution that nursing makes in this area. This volume presents information that is essential for the education of nurses new to transplantation, while also offering a valuable resource for more experienced nurses who wish to update their knowledge.

Book Organ Procurement and Transplantation

Download or read book Organ Procurement and Transplantation written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-01-09 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each day, nearly 60 Americans receive a transplanted kidney, liver, or other organâ€"a literal "second chance at life"â€"but 11 others die waiting for an organ transplant. The number of donors, although rising, is not growing fast enough to meet the increasing demand. Intended to improve the current system of organ procurement and allocation, the "Final Rule," a 1998 regulation issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, sparked further controversy with its attempts to eliminate the apparent geographic disparities in the time an individual must wait for an organ. This book assesses the potential impact of the Final Rule on organ transplantation. It also presents new, original analyses of data, and assesses medical practices, social and economic observations, and other information on: access to transplantation services for low-income populations and racial and ethnic minority groups; organ donation rates; waiting times for transplantation; patient survival rates and organ failure rates leading to retransplantation; and cost of organ transplantation services.

Book Medical Care of the Liver Transplant Patient

Download or read book Medical Care of the Liver Transplant Patient written by Paul G Killenberg and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medical Care of the Liver Transplant Patient looks at monitoring and maintaining the health of organ recipients and donors, pre, during and post-operatively. There are twenty-nine chapters containing practical advice on total patient management. They are arranged into 8 sections and follow the stages of transplantation from first indication and selection of potential recipient, through to acute recovery, long-term follow-up and continued health. In this edition there are new chapters on special considerations in liver transplant patients such as viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease and live donor liver transplantation. It also contains the very latest information concerning complications and recurring problems after transplantation. Another new chapter considers fresh approaches and developments in the future. This is a vital reference to all members of the medical team involved at different stages in the care of liver transplantation patients including hepatologists, gastroenterologists, transplant surgeons, specialist nurses, and nutritionists.

Book Non Heart Beating Organ Transplantation

Download or read book Non Heart Beating Organ Transplantation written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1998-01-18 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-heart-beating donors (individuals whose deaths are determined by cessation of heart and respiratory function rather than loss of whole brain function) could potentially be of major importance in reducing the gap between the demand for and available supply of organs for transplantation. Prompted by questions concerning the medical management of such donorsâ€"specifically, whether interventions undertaken to enhance the supply and quality of potentially transplantable organs (i.e. the use of anticoagulants and vasodilators) were in the best interests of the donor patientâ€"the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services asked the Institute of Medicine to examine from scientific and ethical points of view "alternative medical approaches that can be used to maximize the availability of organs from [a] donor [in an end-of-life situation] without violating prevailing ethical norms...." This book examines transplantation supply and demand, historical and modern conceptions of non-heart-beating donors, and organ procurement organizations and transplant program policies, and contains recommendations concerning the principles and ethical issues surrounding the topic.
