Book Moving On

Download or read book Moving On written by Paul Thomas Cox PhD and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2020-08-13 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is the role of locals to report on a 'Preacher Kid's activities, at least in this book, the author, whether preteen or teenager, took opportunity to provide many escapades worth their reporting! This pattern continues throughout his later experiences during various careers. As a teenager during WWII provided early income opportunities, as all men over 18 away to war, thus saving money for college, early dating & marriage, leading to early maturing with family responsibilities. A decade of farming providing practical experience enabling better education choices, even all the while raising his family. By educating himself first through BS, MS, PhD, plus wife with BA, then ex-wife through law school, followed by 3-children from ASU, NAU and U of A, 21-year span of college tuition, probably a record! How his life changed from this long maturing and educational period, throughout following activities in public, private and international careers, provides an interesting perspective on broader societal differences experienced in many countries, including the USA. Middle East, North Africa societies are far different than South Equatorial Africa, Asia and/or Europe and the Americas. The author's perspective greatly aided by having wives at different stages of his careers, first American, 2nd Persia (Iran), 3rd Philippines. Reaching apex of careers at age 78 was an exceptional feat then upon retirement until now the author's reflection on life's experiences and potential societal change are unique indeed!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This amusing tale is a biography, of sorts. For it is a biography not of one individual but of a portion of the generation of kids born in America in the mid-1940s. Their adventures and misadventures, missteps and mischief, and learning and yearning spring forth as they thrive in what many today consider far simpler and happier times. And, in this nostalgic look at part of America's past, the reader might discover ways to help future generations of children grow into their own sweet time and prevent perils imposed by others.

Book The Republican Evolution

Download or read book The Republican Evolution written by Kenneth Janda and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2022-11-29 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Republican Party was founded in 1854 to oppose slavery and its spread to new territories and states. Today, under the sway of Donald Trump, it is hardly recognizable as the party of Lincoln or even the party of Eisenhower. How and why has the Republican Party changed so drastically? Kenneth Janda sheds new light on the Republican Party’s transformations, drawing on a wide range of quantitative and qualitative evidence. He examines nearly three thousand planks from every Republican platform since 1856 as well as candidate statements and historical sources, tracing the evolution of the party’s positions on topics such as states’ rights, trade, taxation, regulation, law and order, immigration, environmental protection, and voting rights. Janda argues that the GOP has gone through three main phases over the course of its history, transforming from a party committed to governance to one vehemently opposed to government. In its first several decades, the Republican Party emphasized national authority and economic development. By the late 1920s, Republicans had begun downplaying the role of government in favor of a new philosophy steeped in free markets. The nomination of Barry Goldwater in 1964 marked a key turning point. Since then, the party has endorsed states’ rights, opposed civil rights, and become increasingly ethnocentric. Richly documented with scores of figures and tables, The Republican Evolution offers new perspective on how the GOP became an antigovernment party—and whether it can step back from the brink of authoritarianism.

A collection of reminiscences written by members of the U.S. Naval Academy class of 1952, it is a testament to the value of a Naval Academy education. Some stories are of combat in Korea, exploits in space, aerial combat over Vietnam, or development of major weapons systems. Others are stories of life at sea or of the challenges faced by the families supporting their husbands and fathers. It is safe to say, this book is an edifying, intimate, and inspiring history.
