Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 13th Life of Desire; with the subtitle: Putting under Control all Desires; tends to showcase the rebirth of thirteen lines from the first three lines of desire in our daily life, for example: I once loved, and I smiled, then I missed. He is perfect, she is sweet. These are just few words of a single breath of our desire in life: in high school, college, home and work place. The rest thirteen lines will follow and flow like a river. Probably the next line will be: I long to kiss and be kissed. Desire and fear are the two most powerful emotion in which most life in the world is propelled. There is something we desire, that is why we admired and loved; there is something we fear, that is why we doubted and hesitated. We desire, but we are afraid and uncertain of how we can acquire our wanting. Life desires in a poetic expression is the most noble and true expression in the human language. It is not fiction, it is fact in the sense that I do not decide to write a poem, but i find myself writing; just like dreaming, i do not decide to dream, i just find myself in the dream dreaming. And that is why i have dream poems and a well outlined at the end of my book is a thesis: Why do we dream? Dream desires are also part of my life poetry and our daily desires. The only difference is that i write them in moment of dreaming while i am awake; and the former, I write down upon waking from the dream, though they will be just fragments of dreams. Inspiration is the mother of desire and nature is its source. People are part of nature and form part of desire and inspiration. We appreciate beauty and the loveliness of things that capture our hearts and eyes, igniting the urge to: experience, possess and live it. It''s the sublime moment of life or feeling alive. What makes us feel alive is what we desire and therefore we live to want it. But the main issue is... are we satisfied? And if not, can we control our desires? From our perception to our imagination, from our sight to our touch, from our feelings to our needs, the 13th Life of Desire tends to showcase the rebirth of next thirteen lines of desire from the first three lines of inspiration. Inspiration is limited, i mean, brief, but desire is unlimited, you will always desire, always want, you will always need. What a pity for humanity! And as i laugh on my last line, i know, for i have lived and written on it; forming the 13th life of desire. How restless our hearts are in relation to life needs, make me wonder why, and the WHY made me write. Scriptures give us comfort and hope to keep on going, poetry gives us life reality and makes us smile, saying, i was once there, i know, i feel it. Emotions can blot out reason, and poetry requires wisdom, that is, organized life, words and thoughts; how things real are, how we understand them and live with them. After all, desire is necessary, it propels us to work hard, think, and be creative. But, it can also make us envy, corrupt, steal and kill. It''s both side of the coin. You can use it to buy goods or use the same coin (money) to corrupt. It''s just the way someone may interpret a scripture; the love of money is the root of all evil, but someone somewhere might think...well, the love of money is its root for most goods and happiness. You see. So desire is like a coin, it is just how we see it. At the end of the day, the size of your success depends on the depth of your desire. The late South African president, Nelson Mandela once said "If you speak to a man in a language he understands, it goes to his mind, but if you speak in his language it goes to his heart." And in the thirteenth life of desire I speak in our most secret human language of desire, in prose form and rhyme. The problem with desire is that we would do anything to experience, acquire and satisfy it. Our life is full of desires; our body is a lamb of avarice. But the main question is: How do we control our desire driven life? Desire is not a sin, but anxiety is an inward sin.

How do you know if what you desire will satisfy, or if you are seeing a "desire mirage"? The global village presents countless ways to connect to all kinds of information. We think we can scarcely live without these connections. Do we realize, however, that these connections often block or slow down connections to God, self, and others? Divided Desire is a journey along the road of desire--a road everyone travels. Along the journey, Kenny Damara explores why we desire what we desire in the global village today. What role does God have in fulfilling the ultimate desire of the heart? And how should we respond?

Book Desire Love

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lauren Gail Berlant
  • Publisher : Dead Letter Office, BABEL Working Group
  • Release : 2012
  • ISBN : 9780615686875
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Desire Love written by Lauren Gail Berlant and published by Dead Letter Office, BABEL Working Group. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "There is nothing more alienating than having your pleasures disputed by someone with a theory," writes Lauren Berlant. Yet the ways in which we live sexuality and intimacy have been profoundly shaped by theories - especially psychoanalytic ones, which have helped to place sexuality and desire at the center of the modern story about what a person is and how her history should be read. At the same time, other modes of explanation have been offered by popular and mass culture. In these domains, sexual desire is not deemed the core story of life; it is mixed up with romance, a particular version of the story of love. In this small theoretical novella-cum-dictionary entry, Lauren Berlant engages love and desire in separate entries. In the first entry, Desire mainly describes the feeling one person has for something else: it is organized by psychoanalytic accounts of attachment, and tells briefly the history of their importance in critical theory and practice. The second entry, on Love, begins with an excursion into fantasy, moving away from the parent-child structure so central to psychoanalysis and looking instead at the centrality of context, environment, and history. The entry on Love describes some workings of romance across personal life and commodity culture, the place where subjects start to think about fantasy on behalf of their actual lives. Whether viewed psychoanalytically, institutionally, or ideologically, love is deemed always an outcome of fantasy. Without fantasy, there would be no love. Desire/Love takes us on a tour of all of the things that sentence might mean.

Book Evolution of Desire

Download or read book Evolution of Desire written by Cynthia L Haven and published by MSU Press. This book was released on 2018-04-01 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: René Girard (1923–2015) was one of the leading thinkers of our era—a provocative sage who bypassed prevailing orthodoxies to offer a bold, sweeping vision of human nature, human history, and human destiny. His oeuvre, offering a “mimetic theory” of cultural origins and human behavior, inspired such writers as Milan Kundera and J. M. Coetzee, and earned him a place among the forty “immortals” of the Académie Française. Too often, however, his work is considered only within various academic specializations. This first-ever biographical study takes a wider view. Cynthia L. Haven traces the evolution of Girard’s thought in parallel with his life and times. She recounts his formative years in France and his arrival in a country torn by racial division, and reveals his insights into the collective delusions of our technological world and the changing nature of warfare. Drawing on interviews with Girard and his colleagues, Evolution of Desire: A Life of René Girard provides an essential introduction to one of the twentieth century’s most controversial and original minds.

Book Embracing Desire

  • Release : 2019-07-10

Download or read book Embracing Desire written by Louis Roy and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-07-10 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Louis Roy criticizes two different attitudes concerning our desires: either we are wary of our desires because of their potentially negative effects, or we try to satisfy as many of them as we can. Both attitudes focus on desires without examining the issue of desire. The solution is neither to suspect nor to multiply our various desires, but rather to intensify desire. Once desire has intensified, we can accept our desires and identify some of them as priorities for us to fulfill. We will then proceed not only with motivation but also with detachment, and therein lies the key to happiness. Any human being wishes to be granted personal value as a unique individual worthy of respect. And we long to be desired by the person or persons we desire. Moreover, because of our infinitude, we are able to wonder if an infinite being, whom we respect without reserve, can find us desirable. The author explores this basic concern and describes the relationship of mutual desire between Jesus and his first disciples. Thus, this book will appeal to educated readers interested in spirituality, psychology, literature, catechesis, and pastoral ministry.

Download or read book Three Faces of Desire written by Timothy Schroeder and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2004-08-12 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To desire something is a condition familiar to everyone. It is uncontroversial that desiring has something to do with motivation, something to do with pleasure, and something to do with reward. Call these "the three faces of desire." The standard philosophical theory at present holds that the motivational face of desire presents its unique essence--to desire a state of affairs is to be disposed to act so as to bring it about. A familiar but less standard account holds the hedonic face of desire to reveal to true nature of desire. In this view, to desire something is to tend to pleasure if it seems that the desired state of affairs has been achieved, or displeasure if it seems otherwise, thus tying desire to feelings instead of actions. In Three Faces of Desire, Schroeder goes beyond actions and feelings to advance a novel and controversial theory of desire that puts the focus on desire's neglected face, reward. Informed by contemporary science as much as by the philosophical tradition, Three Faces of Desire discusses recent scientific discoveries that tell us much about the way that actions and feelings are produced in the brain. In particular, recent experiments reveal that a distinctive system is responsible for promoting action, on the one hand, and causing feelings of pleasure and displeasure, on the other. This system, the brain's reward system, is the causal origin of both action and feeling, and is the key to understanding the nature of desire.
