Book excerpt: "12 Step Poetry leads the reader through the emotional heights and depths of the awakening from addiction, the struggle, and the breakthrough into the light and warm embrace of recovery." Grant Schnarr "The 12th Step says 'having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message' to others in need. Why not use poetry to carry that message? This poet uses magical and heartfelt imagery to convey the journey to spiritual awakening, inviting us to do likewise. Poetry can bypass the guarded intellect, open up the heart and senses, and become a kind of prayer connecting us to the divine....." Drew Leder ".....a gift from an author who knows well the steps of this path, having entered through the grace of God into 'the foreign space of hopeful faith, ' discovering within all of us 'the pure manifestation of infinite Light unconditionally nourished by infinite Life.' I highly recommend this book for those who work the 12 Steps and anyone, everyone, who has the desire to delve deeply into the poetry of the human experience itself. If you have in any way struggled on a path of addiction to recovery, you will recognize yourself in these poems." Grant Schnarr

Book I Am Addict

  • Author : Dennis Wright
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse

  • ISBN : 1452085552
  • Pages : 112 pages

Download or read book I Am Addict written by Dennis Wright and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-12-17 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In here is an offering. An offering designed to enlighten and inspire anyone who is on the less traveled road laid out by the 12 steps of recovery. I say less traveled because the numbers of true recoverees is relatively small in comparison to the numbers of people caught in addictions. This collection has been many, many years in the making. I hope that it may bring some light and maybe a little humor to a relatively dark subject. I have tried not to offend sensitive eyes and pallets but there is some language used in the cramped world of users that works when other language doesn't, and some of it is in this collection. I have refrained from vulgarity however and if you can tolerate some compromise I am sure you will be pleasantly rewarded. If you are new to recovery you may be surprised at some of the things here that you thought no one else had ever thought. It is important to remember that the common thread in addiction is the lie that you are the only one who has ever done the things you are doing. There is only so much dysfunction in the world, and when you have been on the road of recovery for a while it becomes amazingly redundant. Everybody is stunned to find out they are not alone in their weirdness. Stunned and then relieved to find out that there is a way out. The bottom line is that we give up a life of using for a life of service. When you find this and come to terms with serving people who usually don't care, and you serve them anyway, then and only then will you start receiving the rewards that await you.

Book Poems from the Twelve Step Podium

Download or read book Poems from the Twelve Step Podium written by Garry Sanders and published by Author House. This book was released on 2010-01-07 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This one-of-kind book started with my very first poem I wrote, the "My Alcoholism" poem. I awoke one morning in March, 2009, at about 5:00am, with this poem in my head. So as not to forget, I went to the computer room and wrote it down on paper in about 15 minutes. I was not fully awake and proceeded back to bed. After morning breakfast and coffee, I took my daughter, Hannah, to school for the day. I came back home and put this poem into the computer, 99% pure from the first format. I proceeded in the months that followed to have many more inspirations from my "Higher Power". This book is the result of me following direction and using "His Will". In spite of my lack of talent and no experience, this book was completed, and I do believe it is a miracle. "He" provided me with 24 poems, to equal the 12 steps and 12 traditions of our program. I don't believe this to be a coincidence, and in reading this book I hope you will agree. As in our pre-amble primary purpose, I am staying sober today while doing this project, and I hope to help another member to achieve their sobriety. I wish all of you to enjoy this gift from our "Higher Power".

Book In the Months of My Son s Recovery

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poems of In the Months of My Son’s Recovery inhabit the voice and point of view of the mother of a heroin addict who enters recovery. These intimately voiced, harrowing poems reveal the collateral damage that addiction inflicts on friends and families, in addition to the primary damage sustained by addicts themselves. Offering bold descriptions of medical processes, maternal love, and the potential for hope as an antidote to despair, this timely collection offers a firsthand account of the many crises at the heart of the opioid epidemic.

Book Clear Light Living Water

Download or read book Clear Light Living Water written by Mario Marioncelli and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2023-08-09 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In my introduction I tell a tale and make the claim that I “discovered” the 12 Steps of AA, which may as well say 12 Steps of recovery as the wisdom of the Steps applies to so many addictions as well as mental-emotional disorders. I say, in the introduction, that I engaged in fervent prayer and when the light went on I was “told” to perform certain tasks. Each task was another Step along the path. And in the same exalted state of mind I was instructed to write down two things: The first on Love and how it cascades through the universe creating all things, even intelligent beings. The second occurred on the next day after I had completed Step 5, (sharing my writings). I was lead to write the verses, sayings and aphorisms that are found in this brief volume. Skeptical? Read the book and make up your own mind: Inspiration? or delusion?

Book The 12 Step Buddhist

Download or read book The 12 Step Buddhist written by Darren Littlejohn and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-03-10 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The face of addiction and alcoholism is a face that many have seen before -- it may be a celebrity, a colleague, or even a family member. And though the 12-step program by itself can often bring initial success, many addicts find themselves relapsing back into old ways and old patterns, or replacing one addiction with another. Author Darren Littlejohn has been there and back, and presents a complimentary guide for recovery to the traditional twelve-step program, out of his own struggles and successes through the study of Zen and Tibetan Buddhism. Working with the traditional 12-Step philosophy, the author first shares his own life path, and how he came to find the spiritual solace that has greatly enhanced his life in recovery. Then, he details out how his work integrating Buddhism into the traditional twelve-step programs validates both aspects of the recovery process. While being careful not to present himself as a Tibetan lama or Zen master, the author shows how each step -- such as admitting there is a problem, seeking help, engaging in a thorough self-examination, making amends for harm done, and helping other drug addicts who want to recover -- fits into the Bodhisattva path. This integration makes Buddhism accessible for addicts, and the 12 Steps understandable for Buddhists who may otherwise be at a loss to help those in need. The 12-Step Buddhist is designed to be a complimentary practice to the traditional 12-step journey, not a replacement. While traditional twelve-step programs help addicts become sober by removing the drug of choice and providing a spiritual path, they rarely delve deep into what causes people to suffer in the first place. The integration of Buddhism with the traditional process provides the wisdom and meditations that can help addicts truly find a deep, spiritual liberation from all causes and conditions of suffering -- for good.

  • Pages : 85 pages

Download or read book Breathing Under Water written by Richard Rohr and published by Franciscan Media. This book was released on 2013-11-04 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous is America's most significant and authentic contribution to the history of spirituality, says Richard Rohr. He makes a case that the Twelve Steps relate well to Christian teaching and can rescue people who are drowning in addiction and may not even realize it. To survive the tidal wave of compulsive behavior and addiction, Christians must learn to breathe under water and discover God's love and compassion. In this exploration of Twelve Step spirituality, Rohr identifies the Christian principles in the Twelve Steps, connecting The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous with the gospel. He draws on talks he has given for over twenty years to people in recovery and those who counsel and live with people with addictive behavior. Rohr offers encouragement for becoming interiorly alive and inspiration for making one's life manageable for dealing with the codependence and dysfunction (sin) rampant in our society.
