This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Older Americans Act Programs, a Rural Perspective: Hearing Before the Subcommittee on Federal, State, and Community Services of the Select Committee on Aging, House of Representatives, Ninety-Fifth Congress, First Session During my service on the select committee the bulk Of the testi mony we have heard and from the hearings in Washington and from field hearin have stressed the needs Of the elderly in, mostly, urban America. Ow, make no mistake about it, there are serious needs which must be met and both the committee and the Congress must take these needs into account as we review programs designed for Older Americans. But, it has been long evident to me that we weren't getting the story on the needs of the elderly in rural America. This is wh I have been urging the committee to hold an oversight hearing on the Older Americans Act in truly a rural American community; I thought this was an ideal site for such a hearing. I'm pleased Chairman Pepper as agreed to honor my request and thus we are here today. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. At least 17.7 million individuals in the United States are caregivers of an older adult with a health or functional limitation. The nation's family caregivers provide the lion's share of long-term care for our older adult population. They are also central to older adults' access to and receipt of health care and community-based social services. Yet the need to recognize and support caregivers is among the least appreciated challenges facing the aging U.S. population. Families Caring for an Aging America examines the prevalence and nature of family caregiving of older adults and the available evidence on the effectiveness of programs, supports, and other interventions designed to support family caregivers. This report also assesses and recommends policies to address the needs of family caregivers and to minimize the barriers that they encounter in trying to meet the needs of older adults.
