Book Multichannel Optical Networks

Download or read book Multichannel Optical Networks written by Peng-Jun Wan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-09-30 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The huge bandwidth of optical fiber was recognized back in the 1970s during the early development of fiber optics technology. For the last two decades, the capacity of experimental and deployed systems has been increasing at a rate of 100-fold each decade - a rate exceeding the increase of integrated circuit speeds. Today, optical communication in the public communication networks has developed from the status of a curiosity into being the dominant technology. Various great challenges arising from the deployment of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) have attracted much effort from many researchers. Indeed, optical networking has been a fertile ground for both theoretical research and experimental studies. This monograph presents contributions from the author's past and ongoing research in the field of optical networking. The ideas presented focus more on graph-theoretical and algorithmic aspects of optical networks. Although this book is limited to the author's own research, there are many outstanding achievements made by other individuals which are cited throughout. Without the inspiration of their efforts, this monograph would never have been possible. Audience: Research workers and professionals from mathematics, computer science, and engineering with an interest in algorithms, graph theory, telecommunications, networking and optical devices.

Book Combinatorial Optimization Under Uncertainty

Download or read book Combinatorial Optimization Under Uncertainty written by Ritu Arora and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-12 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the basic ideas, underlying principles, mathematical formulations, analysis and applications of the different combinatorial problems under uncertainty and attempts to provide solutions for the same. Uncertainty influences the behaviour of the market to a great extent. Global pandemics and calamities are other factors which affect and augment unpredictability in the market. The intent of this book is to develop mathematical structures for different aspects of allocation problems depicting real life scenarios. The novel methods which are incorporated in practical scenarios under uncertain circumstances include the STAR heuristic approach, Matrix geometric method, Ranking function and Pythagorean fuzzy numbers, to name a few. Distinct problems which are considered in this book under uncertainty include scheduling, cyclic bottleneck assignment problem, bilevel transportation problem, multi-index transportation problem, retrial queuing, uncertain matrix games, optimal production evaluation of cotton in different soil and water conditions, the healthcare sector, intuitionistic fuzzy quadratic programming problem, and multi-objective optimization problem. This book may serve as a valuable reference for researchers working in the domain of optimization for solving combinatorial problems under uncertainty. The contributions of this book may further help to explore new avenues leading toward multidisciplinary research discussions.

Book Stochastic Control in Discrete and Continuous Time

Download or read book Stochastic Control in Discrete and Continuous Time written by Atle Seierstad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-07-03 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an introduction to three topics in stochastic control: discrete time stochastic control, i. e. , stochastic dynamic programming (Chapter 1), piecewise - terministic control problems (Chapter 3), and control of Ito diffusions (Chapter 4). The chapters include treatments of optimal stopping problems. An Appendix - calls material from elementary probability theory and gives heuristic explanations of certain more advanced tools in probability theory. The book will hopefully be of interest to students in several ?elds: economics, engineering, operations research, ?nance, business, mathematics. In economics and business administration, graduate students should readily be able to read it, and the mathematical level can be suitable for advanced undergraduates in mathem- ics and science. The prerequisites for reading the book are only a calculus course and a course in elementary probability. (Certain technical comments may demand a slightly better background. ) As this book perhaps (and hopefully) will be read by readers with widely diff- ing backgrounds, some general advice may be useful: Don’t be put off if paragraphs, comments, or remarks contain material of a seemingly more technical nature that you don’t understand. Just skip such material and continue reading, it will surely not be needed in order to understand the main ideas and results. The presentation avoids the use of measure theory.

Book Foundations of Algorithms Using C Pseudocode

Download or read book Foundations of Algorithms Using C Pseudocode written by Richard E. Neapolitan and published by Jones & Bartlett Learning. This book was released on 2004 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundations of Algorithms Using C++ Pseudocode, Third Edition offers a well-balanced presentation on designing algorithms, complexity analysis of algorithms, and computational complexity. The volume is accessible to mainstream computer science students who have a background in college algebra and discrete structures. To support their approach, the authors present mathematical concepts using standard English and a simpler notation than is found in most texts. A review of essential mathematical concepts is presented in three appendices. The authors also reinforce the explanations with numerous concrete examples to help students grasp theoretical concepts.

Book Handbook of Research on Fuzzy and Rough Set Theory in Organizational Decision Making

This book was released on 2016-10-17 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soft computing techniques are innovative tools that use nature-inspired algorithms to run predictive analysis of industries from business to software measurement. These tools have gained momentum in recent years for their practicality and flexibility. The Handbook of Research on Fuzzy and Rough Set Theory in Organizational Decision Making collects both empirical and applied research in the field of fuzzy set theory, and bridges the gap between the application of soft computational approaches and the organizational decision making process. This publication is a pivotal reference for business professionals, IT specialists, software engineers, and advanced students of business and information technology.
