Download or read book Plant Contamination written by Craig Mc Farlane and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-10-12 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the physiological and anatomical principles and the chemical and physical factors that determine uptake, translocation, accumulation, loss, and metabolism of anthropogenic chemicals in plants. Expert authors in the fields of biology, chemistry, ecology, environmental physics, and biochemistry provide recently developed methods and models for estimation of the behavior of environmental chemicals in the soil-plant-air system-information that is essential in the hazard assessment of new and existing chemicals.

Book Chlorinated Solvent Source Zone Remediation

Download or read book Chlorinated Solvent Source Zone Remediation written by Bernard H. Kueper and published by Springer Science & Business. This book was released on 2014-04-22 with total page 759 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to help engineers and scientists better understand dense nonaqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) contamination of groundwater and the methods and technology used for characterization and remediation. Remediation of DNAPL source zones is very difficult and controversial and must be based on state-of-the-art knowledge of the behavior (transport and fate) of nonaqueous phase liquids in the subsurface and site specific geology, chemistry and hydrology. This volume is focused on the characterization and remediation of nonaqueous phase chlorinated solvents and it is hoped that mid-level engineers and scientists will find this book helpful in understanding the current state-of-practice of DNAPL source zone management and remediation.

Book Pettis Integral and Measure Theory

Download or read book Pettis Integral and Measure Theory written by Michel Talagrand and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1984 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a self-contained account of measure theory and integration in a Banach space. We give a detailed analysis of the weak Baire probabilities on a Banach space E, and on its second dual. Scalarly (= weak) measurable functions valued in E are studied via their image measure and it is shown how to regularize them using lifting. General criteria are given to ensure that they are Pettis integrable. This study relies on tools from topological and abstract measure theory.

Book Finite Groups coming of Age

Download or read book Finite Groups coming of Age written by John McKay and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1985 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These conference papers should dispel any post-classification pessimism about the future of the theory of finite simple groups. Having noted that the theory developed for the classification touches on so few other branches of mathematics, the editor focuses on research in finite simple groups not central to the classification and presents a broad context for the recent results in the field. The papers are aimed at researchers and graduate students in algebra. They pay special attention to current research in sporadic geometry, the Fischer-Griess Monster group, and moonshine. Though all the papers are of high research value, the following papers of unusual significance should be singled out: Frenkel, Lepowsky, and Meurman's construction of the Monster group $F_1$; Conway and Queen's computation of characters of $E_8({\bf C})$; Norton's proof of the uniqueness of the Monster; and Mason's exploration of moonshine.

Book Classical Real Analysis

Download or read book Classical Real Analysis written by Daniel Waterman and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects most of the papers presented at a special session on classical real analysis held to honor Casper Goffman at the April 1982 AMS meeting. The variety of these papers reflects Goffman's wide-ranging interests and the many areas where his influence has been felt: differentiation and integration theory, structure theory of real functions, ordered systems, surface area, Sobolev spaces, Fourier analysis, measure theory, bases, and approximation theory. Together they provide an appreciation of the directions in which real analysis has developed and of how classical techniques might be applied to problems of current interest. Readers should have a background in classical analysis. Though aimed primarily at specialists in real function theory of one or several variables, the papers will also interest mathematicians working in the areas of Fourier analysis, surface area, mapping theory and control theory.

Book Complex Analysis in one Variable

Download or read book Complex Analysis in one Variable written by NARASIMHAN and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on a first-year graduate course I gave three times at the University of Chicago. As it was addressed to graduate students who intended to specialize in mathematics, I tried to put the classical theory of functions of a complex variable in context, presenting proofs and points of view which relate the subject to other branches of mathematics. Complex analysis in one variable is ideally suited to this attempt. Of course, the branches of mathema tics one chooses, and the connections one makes, must depend on personal taste and knowledge. My own leaning towards several complex variables will be apparent, especially in the notes at the end of the different chapters. The first three chapters deal largely with classical material which is avai lable in the many books on the subject. I have tried to present this material as efficiently as I could, and, even here, to show the relationship with other branches of mathematics. Chapter 4 contains a proof of Picard's theorem; the method of proof I have chosen has far-reaching generalizations in several complex variables and in differential geometry. The next two chapters deal with the Runge approximation theorem and its many applications. The presentation here has been strongly influenced by work on several complex variables.

Book Neyman

    Book Details:
  • Author : Constance Reid
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 1998
  • ISBN : 9780387983578
  • Pages : 338 pages

Download or read book Neyman written by Constance Reid and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jerzy Neyman received the National Medal of Science "for laying the foundations of modern statistics and devising tests and procedures that have become essential parts of the knowledge of every statistician." Until his death in 1981 at the age of 87, Neyman was vigorously involved in the concerns and controversies of the day, a scientist whose personality and activity were integral parts of his contribution to science. His career is thus particularly well-suited for the non-technical life-story which Constance Reid has made her own in such well-received biographies of Hilbert and Courant. She was able to talk extensively with Neyman and have access to his personal and professional letters and papers. Her book will thus appeal to professional statisticians as well as amateurs wanting to learn about a subject which permeates almost every aspect of modern life.

Book Clay Surfaces

Download or read book Clay Surfaces written by Fernando Wypych and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-07-07 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clay plays an important role in everyday life. This versatile mineral is used in housing, improving the environment as a waste treatment material and also in biological applications and medical health care. Clay Surfaces contains 17 chapters which deal with various aspects of natural and man made (synthetic) clay. Well written by experts in both experimental and theoretical areas, this book takes the reader into the fascinating world of the chemistry and physics of clay mineral surfaces and interfaces as well as the complex phenomena on the surfaces involved in clay related systems. This book will provide a better understanding of the intervention mechanisms of interactions of soils in contact with wastes, actions to be taken in the case of chemical spillage, methods to improve the production of food without affecting the ecological balance, increased fixation of carbon in the soil to increase grain production and reduction of carbon dioxide release into the atmosphere. Applications covered describe the role of clays in environmental remediation and the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. This book looks at theory and applications of both natural and modified clays from academic and industrial viewpoints. With broad appeal, this book is suitable for specialists directly involved in clay science and those undergraduate and graduate student studying related areas.
