Download or read book Giorgione written by and published by . This book was released on 1903 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Giorgione's works attained in his own day such great and wide-spread popularity that no painter had any chance of success unless he could furnish pictures in the same style, and contemporary writers, at a loss for terms in which to express their admiration for his works, were driven to coin words which should convey some idea of the fullness of life and beauty that breathed from his canvases. But just when the young painter had reached the apogee of his fame, when all Venice, realizing his genius, was enthusiastically sounding his praises, and the future seemed to hold for him nothing but continued happiness and success, a terrible plague broke out in Venice, carrying off twenty thousand of her citizens in the course of a year, and among its victims was Giorgione, who, stricken by the disease, died after a brief illness. - p. 25-26.

Book excerpt: For centuries, Jews have been accused of something called "blood libel" or "ritual murder": the killing of non-Jews, often children, to use their blood in bizarre religious ceremonies or to make food. For centuries, this has been denied by Jews. But in fact there may be some truth to such claims after all.

Download or read book A Guide to the Latin American Art Song Repertoire written by Stela M. Brandão and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2010-04-29 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A reference guide to the vast array of art song literature and composers from Latin America, this book introduces the music of Latin America from a singer's perspective and provides a basis for research into the songs of this richly musical area of the world. The book is divided by country into 22 chapters, with each chapter containing an introductory essay on the music of the region, a catalog of art songs for that country, and a list of publishers. Some chapters include information on additional sources. Singers and teachers may use descriptive annotations (language, poet) or pedagogical annotations (range, tessitura) to determine which pieces are appropriate for their voices or programming needs, or those of their students. The guide will be a valuable resource for vocalists and researchers, however familiar they may be with this glorious repertoire.
Download or read book Dosso s Fate written by Dosso Dossi and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 1998 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dosso Dossi has long been considered one of Renaissance Italy's most intriguing artists. Although a wealth of documents chronicles his life, he remains, in many ways, an enigma, and his art continues to be as elusive as it is compelling. In Dosso's Fate, leading scholars from a wide range of disciplines examine the social, intellectual, and historical contexts of his art, focusing on the development of new genres of painting, questions of style and chronology, the influence of courtly culture, and the work of his collaborators, as well as his visual and literary sources and his painting technique. The result is an important and original contribution not only to literature on Dosso Dossi but also to the study of cultural history in early modern Italy.
